So, I’m just a GAS-afflicted middle aged Granpa that loves to play guitar. Most of these were posted so I can send the link to other guitar buddies when the file size is too big to text. But, recently I had one video start getting noticed and it was pretty cool to watch the “View count” clim rapidly!
Thanks for watchin!

Cool guitar!
Sounds great Brian! I may have to try one of these someday...
Saved another one Brian! Definitely worth the time to breathe life back into those old Harmony’s. I will say that I am a fan of both ladder braced and X-brace. I own a 48-51 X-braced Kay K-26 as well as a 54’ Silvertone 618 that is a ladder braced guitar. Side by side I always grab the Silvertone, it sounds so good. I do believe that the Kay x-bracing may be over built and perhaps having material removed or a complete re bracing would probably benefit the K-26 a lot. Anyway just passing thoughts of mine while watching your latest resurrection video. Thanks Brian, great job once again!
Brian, I love your guitar videos, and the work you do! Did you ever think of filming these conversions? A lot of people would love to see how you do the work? Someday I might buy one, but I have too many guitars right now (I know, no such thing). Appreciate you work!😊
Absolute Glory! Nice job bringing this beauty back to life for the next 100 years. Who will be playing it in 2124?
Love it Brian! That tone is just emphasized due to its 90 years along with your repairs and respect for it! Another resurrection by your capable hands. Thanks for sharing this beauty!
I like what you've done with it! What strings did you decide on?
@@kedocom They are MapesStrings (small string maker in Elizabethton, TN) Phosphor Bronze 10-47’s
That’s a lot of work! Very cool guitar.
This one looks and sounds excellent. Very unique project.
I love those too. Little gems. Great job.
Bow-chic-a-bow-wow! Awesome job! And they are all cool guitars. Nothing wrong with calling them that!
Please don't change. They are all really cool and they do all sound really good! Love to watch and listen for now. Hope to purchase one of your restomods one very fine day.
Nice work and it sounds great!
Nice work. Would love to try it.
Hi Brian, do you have this up for sale?
I haven’t listed it yet, will probably go up beginning of next week. I like to play them for a couple of weeks to make sure everything has settled in for Setup before they leave the house. Thanks
@@brianmcfarland4745 Ok thanks! Any idea on the price?
@@wildesquireProbably around $1700-ish with case. But my buddy who sold it to me has expressed interest in buying it back, so I’m not sure if it’ll get listed or not. I’ll definitely letcha know though. Thanks
@@brianmcfarland4745 ok I'm interested.
I am the guy who has that other J~45 RescueMod with the super dark 1930's burst (sunrise). And I do love it, yes.
Hey, thanks for the “endorsement”! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. That’s the best perk of resurrecting these, finding them in a “happy home”, lol!
It sounds and looks great Brian. I'm glad im not the only one who digs that color. I see this one has you playing different music than usual. Funny how some guitars do that.
Good tone
Very nice! Thanks for the video. And yes, I hung in there. :) Wasn't hard to do!
another great resto-mod, brian! love the sweet growl of this one .. .
That 48’ sounds great! Wonderful tone and it oozes mojo. Very nice Brian.🎶
doing any 12 strings soon?
These old harmonies that you do are sweet.
Congratulations with the purchase! What a little piano!
Outstanding
How do I get my hands on one of your reso's?
@@JimB802 I don’t have one made right now, just sold the most recent one. Keep an eye here, I always do a Demo when I list something. Thanks!
Top is red spruce. The back is interesting in that it's a solid 16" wide quartersawn piece of Honduran mahogany. Even Martins are 2-piece. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Adjustable truss rod (again a feature a 60's Martin D-18 doesn't have). Hide glue and lacquer finish. These are probably the best kept secret in vintage guitars.
Great job on the guitar looks good. The pictures are crazy but I found a little German para guitar on eBay the other day for under 200 bucks and it’s gonna get the price also but the wood is in great shape no major cracks anywhere and I’m excited just like you are.
I like both for different reasons but I could hear the harmony would cut thru a mix if playing w a full band.
I just picked one of these up at my local mom and pop for $300. A ‘65. I love it.
Just bought it, thank you Sir 👍🥃
@@krissmith2873 THANK YOU, Sir! 😎
@@brianmcfarland4745 simply can't wait until it comes in Sir, looking like this Friday the 26th :)
Ever contemplated using Taylor V-Type bracing on resto-mods?
@@onesource9527 Honestly, I hadn’t, but it’s a great idea. Although, since there is a part of me that still has a few guilty pangs about changing the originality of these old things, at least my mind justifies the X-bracing, since Martin, Gibson et al were doing it at the time these were made, lol!
NICE ZEPLIN
Sounds great!
Sounds great!
Nice work Brian! That extra long scale may make it a great guitar for downtuning it a bit. Couple full steps down maybe. Looks and sounds great.
Awesome!
These Harmony Sovereigns are great guitars and I have converted a few to X braced, but I have to say ladder braced also has a useful tone that shouldn't be discounted. It's a dry, percussive bright tone that I can best describe as similar to Djanjo Reinhardt acoustic solo guitar in tone. Less boomy bass but better for recording and cutting through the mix. Which is probably why Jimmy Page used one for recording a lot of the acoustic passages on all those LZ albums. So whi convert one? Well they still are relatively inexpensive and use woods impossible to source on a new guitar today....so x-bracing one can create effectively a prewar D-18 and 1/10 the price. But if one doesn't need extensive work I sometimes will leave the bracing original.
I couldn’t agree with you more! While I really like the sound of my conversions, that midrange “percussive” tone is a wonderful thing. My ‘38 Gibson-built Recording King has a sound that’s just amazing for fingerpicked Blues or Ragtime. I started doing these as a fun hobby, and it’s still just something fun for me. And my thoughts on doing the conversion is that it makes these old guitars a little more stable, and helps improve their overall “do everything”’tone for the average player. Thanks for your comment, and thanks for watching.
Got a little Rod Stewart in ya, huh?
Ditto....liking the Harmony. Horse race though
Keep on truckin' brotha!
My issue was that the neck block glue let the neck block loosen and it was always out of tune (low) and evertime I tuned it was a steady pull on neck block and string height got higher and higher and developed cracks around the sound hole. I had the cracks cleated and neck block repaired and neck reset. The tone is awesome and my big hands enjoy the neck shape. It looks rough with the repairs but when people hear it they always want to hold it.
I am also a huge 2112 fan.
From one grandpa to another, great job Grandpa Brian! Very Nice job on the alternate version of sultans of swing as well!
i want to be this guy's granddaughter
The Pearl sounds excellent!
The second I heard it I loved it. Excellent stuff.
Very nice Brian!
