Fire! Friction Fire Using The Bow Drill

Here’s a quick video from 2016 of yours truly making a friction fire using the bow drill method. I kinda’ lost control of the spindle in the end but managed to generate enough coal to create a fire. The materials used were dead branches from a pine tree and 550 paracord. In this video we set up a bear bait site complete with bait barrel and tree stand. I was a couple weeks late getting this done as black bear season is already underway but sometimes life gets in the way and things get delayed. With any luck we’ll do well and fill the tag. Aqua view are more robust than Marcum. On the Marcum camera, where the cable enters the camera, cable is prone to failure. Not repairable. Replacement is $$$. Almost as much as the whole unit. FYI
Great video, well done, music and photography. If this is your first time you did an excellent job. If there are any bears around you will have your opportunity. I like maple syrup marshmallows cherry jello simmered into a nice mix and poured over the dog food or pop corn, you guys will do fine.
Brotherly luv
Great review what a great picture I liked, Commented and Subbed at the end so should be # 92 very nice rig
So the lines I see are from your phone recording the screen and you don't see them on the Aqua-Vu screen?
From the video camera, yes. The monitor on the Aqua-Vu is clear.
Honestly I wasn’t looking to buy anything absolutely amazing with hd. I just picked this thing up and honestly I think it will get her done. Nice video too!
Are you still liking it ? Just ordered one from Reeds for $250...can't wait to try it out
you found some puff balls no bear wasted my time watching the video 👎
Awesome. How far can it see out?
Battery still work? Most seem to die at one year, and not detachable..
Haven't used it yet this year but it worked the last time I had it out. Keep the battery at full charge while storing.
i just picked this unit up as a combo deal . the pod, camera, and an extra 25' of cable. how have you enjoyed the unit after having it for a while? did you ever figure out the battery indicator light on the screen?
How many hour's use battery before drain?
We've had it on the ice from sun up to after sun down on one charge.
Are you still using this unit? Are you happy with it??
We missed last year's ice fishing season. In fact, we missed fishing all year but the last time we had it out we were still happy with it.
Nice
You'd be better off using fryer oil rather than motor oil lol.
How deep were you? I wanna get camera but not sure what one. This one for 299 or marcum quest hd for 599. Can't see spending the extra 300 if this is a good camera. How is it in dirty water
Wonder if the tripod will fit my thermos insulator
Who'd be nice too have a longer camara cord maybe 70 or 80 feet
Just got this same package. I cannot wait to use it!
how deep were u fishing
If I remember correctly around 30 - 40 feet.
If you remember correctly how long is all day the when you say the battery lasted like 8 hours 6 hours or a good 10 to 12 hours
Now it’s $399 at Bass pro Vaughan. Do you think it’s worth it for open water, bridge and boats? Planning to get one. Thanks!
Great review, made me happy choosing to purchase one. Thanks! FYI, are you still pleased with it?
Yep. Still works great. I love watching the fish come in for the bait.
The Ageing Adventurers how long does the battery last ? Mine lasted 20 mins
@@jaybrown29 Mine lasts all day on the ice.
@@jaybrown29 still 20 minutes or did you find a solution?
@@leodavis3414 I returned it. Then I bought a new one and it works great.
Meghan sure has come a long way . I am so happy to see her do so well !
Hell of a review. I think I will get myself one. Also have you tried it outside and not from the cover of a tent?. And if so were you able to still see the picture?.
There is some glare but the shield helps a lot. It's a good little unit.
Wasn't enough sweets
The following year we tagged one using the same feed. Last year we had bear in the Spring and nothing but coyotes in the Fall after switching the feed to doughnuts, pastries, etc.,. Other hunters have told me similar stories of the past Fall in our neck of the woods. One of those years. Thanks for watching!
For people who have used this may or may not have complaints about the battery indicator..the manual says to charge the battery for about 10 hours..I do it and turn it on and it reads 2 bars right away..so I swapped the battery with a new one fully charged and it does the same thing. Perhaps its a malfunction issue with the camera but overall very nice system
Neil Mohammed I got one two days ago and after a full day of charging, it bounces back between one and two bars. Managed to run the camera for 10 hrs with no issues. Only problem I had was picture clarity. Couldn’t see past 4ft in front of the camera on Mille lacs lake which is quite clear.
My manual says to charge for between 12 and 24 hrs
I just bought this at cabela's for $369..cant wait to try it!. I will also use this on my boat in the summer.
I got one as well. Nice review and have a good fishing tiime! Thanks
Nice review. I just got one yesterday at cabelas in Barrie. Can’t wait to get out this year and be able to see what the marks on the flasher actually are.
Have you been able to figure our how to record with the video output ?
No. Haven't really tried. I've simply just placed a camera on a small tripod to record some action. Works well enough but I may look more into it in the future.
Pricey.
Hook up to a VCR recorder if you know what that is but you will need an inverter because they are 110 volt
Fantastic!! Thanks for making and posting this video! LOVE IT!!!
One of the best ice fishing camera reviews on youtube.... awesome video. Ive been debating for a year on which camera to buy.... I think I'll have to go with this one !
You're right about the fragile container that the tripod came in. I took a 14" length of 4" white sewer pipe/PVC (without drainage holes) and two end caps to make a carrying case. I lined the inside with a couple wraps of aluminum bubble foil insulation and some packing foam in the end caps. Overkill? Just didn't want to start a day ice fishing with only two legs on the ice pod! Next project......? Something that involves almost 9 feet of the 4" PVC pipe!!! Enjoy.
Need to add a Lucas McCain mod to it. I too like a lever, I have a remington 22WMR that I really like.
Music 🎶 stupid big noisy music 🎶 stupid
WHAT FUCKIN "BEAR HUNTING"
Mine shoots the .22 shorts most accurate. Mine shoots left and high too. Still a great gun
How did it go? Do you have a follow up video?
We had a couple bear visit the first few days. Then we had a two week long heat wave and nothing other than the flies were moving. When the bear finally did come back to the site it was only at night so no luck was had. Hopefully we'll have better luck with the coming Spring hunt. Thanks for watching!
@@theageingadventurers4283 we use donuts from various bakeries stored over winter. I have yet to see one track through our fish oil but they love the donuts. Actually any scrap food they like including old smoked ribs.
Cool video! I got you folks subbed!
Thanks friend! Glad you like it. Just subbed ya' back.
I fished Simcoe a couple years ago. Perch were HUGE.
Many jumbos have come outta' that lake. Thanks for watching! :)
It's do-able. It's worth giving it another try. Try going with a skinnier spindle (about 1/2" diameter). Widen the notch a bit more and I think you'll get better results without getting too exhausted. A general rule of thumb is the fireboard should be about as thick as the diameter of the spindle (ie. 1/2" thick fireboard for a 1/2" diameter spindle.).
I've had success (insert at 8:29 ) with the same sized setup but I did have the notch bigger which is most likely one of the reasons it did not work this time. I'll upload that video in the near future. I will be doing this again and again until it's mastered. :) Thanks for the suggestions and for watching.
who ever think a chemical for purifying water could also be used for making a fire
Chemistry is a wonderful thing. Thanks for watching! :)
beautiful video shots, liked and sub'd you! get more out there
Thanks friend! Glad you liked it. Just subbed you as well. :)
miss you guys
