Michael Jibson as King George III In Hamilton London - All Songs
Groff is good, but in my opinion, Michael Jibson totally owns the character. By far the best. Had I even an inkling he was so good, I would have bought a ticket to London from Texas, and paid a premium for a seat in the theater.
Aaaa I’m auditioning for this
One result of the merchant class making national policy.
I can't say that I like this at all. It was rather like an amateur, or school performance. The lack of facial expressions as relating to his words made it seem like he was just reciting the song, and forgetting to act. And then there were the weird bursts of overacting, which made it seem like he got some cue in his memory that that was the moment he should "do" something. King George was crazy, but this performance felt more like a depiction of a dullard than someone who is insane.
I'm going to be honest I prefer Jonathan groff as king George the 3rd he's just the better person for the role
The dropping of the song voice straight into monotone is what made that line FAMILY The dry deadpan British humour is tried and true

1:47 I am wheezing and rolling on floor right now lmaoooo
Really do love Jonathan Groff as King Geoege 3...so it would be diffucult to follow him, BUT I love what this guy did...he totally did make it him own....I almost lost it at him Awesome Wow!
It’s to fast not enough expression in his words.
Groff...hands down
He sounds like a 12 year old 😊
love both actors of King George. Both of them total nutcases and different facial/body expression 🤣

He looks more the part, but Jonathon Groff has my heart!
Having a British person play the part of a British monarch with the mannerism and stiff upper lip rendition of the song as well as the subtle menacing demeanor as he delivered that “i will kill your friends and family” is just so right. Groff’s portrayal was cartoonish. Michael Jibson’s portrayal, on the other hand, was royally spot on. 👏👏👏👏
Meh
There are only 3 songs but this shows a fourth. The last one is a repeat.
I wasn’t convinced at the beginning of You’ll Be Back … but he killed it by the end of the song
4:46 “AWESOMEEE WOWIW.” That’s great!
Watching a BRIT play this role hits differently because…well they’re STILL there aren’t they!!?? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 They would play it much nastier! But we’ve been separated from that BS personally to have a nastier position on them. ❤ We get WHY they would want to play it differently/harder …and it’s appropriate!! Americans GET IT 😂🥰
I love how these get just as many laughs in NY and London, just in different places.
Yawn!
oh thank you for uploading this i've been keen to see how this song is portrayed by a UK actor who has a different perspective, played out to a different audience (the UK audience at that, supposedly The Villains in Hamilton 😅 ) . i like the different choices he made even when singing the same catchy song. Jibson's version of Mad King George is more dangerous-fury as opposed to Groff's Mad King George as being psychopathic. LOVE these different versions of Mad King George of Hamilton. i do wish we could get to see the other versions played out in other places (like those who's audiences are Australians, or Canadians etc)
Sentinel Whispers in his ear (King George pauses for like 5 second) Wot 6:29
This guy did a good job!
They say The price of my love's not a price that they're willing to pay. They cry In their tea, which they hurl in the sea when they see me go by. Why're they sad? Remember, they'd made an arrangement when they went away. Now, they're making me mad Remember, despite the estrangement, I'm their man. They'll be back, soon, you'll see. They'll remember they belong to me. They'll be back, time will tell They'll remember that I served them well. Oceans rise, empires fall We have seen each other through it all. And when push comes to shove, I will send a fully armed battalion to remind them of my love! They say our love is draining, and they can't go on. They'll be the one complaining when I'm gone. That's as far as I got in modifying the lyrics so that it sounds like King George was complaining to the British people about how ridiculous/childish the Americans are (in his POV). Kinda got stuck when the lyrics start talking about the Americans being his favorite subjects cuz that wouldn't be well-received by the British subjects in this scenario.
"AND NO DONT CHANGE THE SUBJECT" was probably the most funny bit for me🤣🤣
This is so-good that it hurts! Ouch lol
Sorry. I think this show sucks the big Bill of Rights
😂😂😂
Hmm... well, we really did make a go of it but then the Trump zombie army was born. Although, my kin (found out recently through dna) Hamilton did consider a seperate New England country... the South has always been a problem. Anyway, wonderful job and very funny. Love from America.
Cameraman chuckles like me lol I am glad I am not the only one that chuckles like that when recording
jonathan groff tho 😞
Kid: “want king gorge” Mum: “we have king gorge at home” (King gorge at home
The irony of there being a UK version of (at least partly) the American Revolution😅
I rather like this version.
Obsessively watching Groffsauce got me through Covid. His interpretation was all I knew of Hamilton. I only recently discovered Michael’s version here. On first hearing I thought he was a pale imitation of JG. Then I listened again and realized what a subtle, effective version this is. JG is an outstanding vocalist, but his George III is a campy parody done by an American, and as done by Groff, GRIII is more Queen than King, with a bit of the Joker thrown in. It’s extremely entertaining, but when we see Geo.III played by an authentically British and more age-appropriate actor, it feels less like a parody and more like the King himself dropped by and decided to try his hand at musical theatre. Jibson has the regal bearing, the gravitas and the dry delivery of a true toff. He is to the manner born as King. His gimlet stare and long pauses are very effective. He needs to add a little more incredulity to his “John Adams????”… though the King actually seems to have been favorably disposed toward Adams IRL and had wanted to knight him after his successful defense of the British redcoats involved in the Boston Massacre. In short, well done, Mr Jibson.
In short?
Imagine actully doing this in london, isnt that like treason lol
i love seeing how different people can portray charecters even with the same lines/songs
Does anyone know where can I watch this slime tutorial please? 🥲
Akin ka nalangggggggggg akin ka nalaaaaaang
1:46 LMFAO
This version is just... kinda.... awful. He doesn't move. It's a SHOW. SHOW us something. MOVE
In the original he does that
I Believe he's a Better King Singer, Actor! He got more Showmanship and knows how to play with his Crowds. He made the King George Strong!
Nah Jonathan>>> This guy isn’t bad though
This is meta. An Englishman playing the olde English King from an American musical about America being founded and declaring independence from England, and it's very cool hearing it with the natural accent. Still, I do prefer Jonathan Groff's version, especially since he channels the scorned ex energy that the lyrics have. Like, it's not JUST about being a pompous king with no faith in America as a country on its own. But this guy IS channeling the actual "mad king" vibes, true. Though it loses a little bit of the comedic relief aspect (still funny though), I respect both portrayals. Random fun fact: The 4th of July/Independence Day is called Treason Day in the U.K. Edit: I don't know if that's outdated or tongue in cheek these days, but I do know that.
Never seen King George seem... bored before. Good voice though!
I love how most of the commenters are pretending that this performance is the equal of Jonathan Groff's. Come now. Honestly.
The music is full on camp. This "royal restraint" and then the progression scene by scene to a more campy/insane version is interesting ... and I suppose its juxtaposition against the camp of the musical score would have been more interesting without Jonathan Groff's spectacularly campy, iconic version. But THAT version is out there, and this one falls more than a bit flat ... at least for me.
I aint reading allat
@@drskivient93 - I get that … I don’t want to read it again either.
This guy sucks.
