Greta Garbo and Leo the Lion, USA 1926
I liked how she retired from acting and then became a mystery.
It must have felt awful to have been ridiculed like this, especially after given so much beauty and talent to American film 🇸🇪
She was natural and had a great sense of humour!
In ein paar Minuten blitzen in ihrem Gesicht mehr Nuancen und Möglichkeiten auf als bei anderen Schauspielern in einer ganzen Karriere 🙂
Such a natural beauty! Appears to wear very little makeup !
If that is Garbo sitting in the chair up top, she sure looks a lot like Julia Roberts to me.
I can’t imagine why she didn’t love being a celebrity, she wrote facetiously.
She wasn't that ugly irl. They did her dirty, lol
She made a ton of money, it was invested well, and she retired at 36. Then enjoyed the next 49 years.
This means she actually had love and affection for children, and wanted to be a mother. She was seeking the right man. “Why haven’t I got a husband and children?” mused Greta Garbo to the Dutchess of Windsor, “I never met a man I could marry.” - Greta Garbo
Greta's tears come from her heart: her home, her land was Sweden, Sodermalm, Blekinge, Gotgatan, the countryside...but she had to ho back to USA, where her job was, which gave her the financial independence to secure a comfortable life. An artist , too, of course: thanks to her gift she survived as an actress when many had to quit. Lovely creature❤
she's beautiful
Little makeup - still stunning. Who can equal her today?
It was a sacrifice for the greater good - to make room for Jane Russell.
,🇬🇧...WHAT A SIMPLE AND REFINED CEREMONY, CELEBRATED BY A FEMALE PROTESTANT PASTOR , FOR A CHARACTER LIKE GRETA GARBO, FOR THIS REASON IT IS EVEN LARGER AND SOLEMN, AN INTERESTING DISCREET CEREMONY, AS SHE WOULD HAVE WANTED, 🇮🇹.. CHE CERIMONIA SEMPLICE E RAFFINATA PER UN PERSONAGGIO COME GRETA GARBO E POI, CELEBRATA DA UN PASTORE PROTESTANTE DONNA, QUESTO LO RENDE ANCORA PIÙ GRANDE E SOLENNE, DISCREZIONE E INTIMITÀ FAMILIARE, COME LEI AVREBBE VOLUTO... SALUTI DALL' ITALIA ✋
Essa mulher era muito linda. Esse vídeo parece atemporal ❤😍
her image was manufactured for this ordinary looking white woman.
Honour those before you.
You can have everything - and nothing.
Mickey’s gala premier actually released in 1933
SHAME. SHAME on those misogynist mongers that ask a screentest to maybe the biggest ICON of her Era. Someone who surpassed the screen to become a sociological phenomenon, a sort of Cult in the States and all around the World. Garbo was extremely humble in accepting this short of humiliation. What was going on in that Insustry after the War? Even Frank Capra was not considered any more to keep on going with his previously successful career. Actress after her 30's and not neccesary to say after her 40's in that Hollywood suffered a disease called "Invisibility" Something that still persist in some or other way to the present day. Specially for those actress smart enough and with self-esteem enough to refuse undergo any kind of procedure to hide aging and freeze their facial expression skills. Too bad for that Industry. What a pity for all of us. Ingrid Bergman made her choice and returned to Europe to keep on going with her Acting career far away of those sionist mongers. Garbo decided that enough is enough and choose a private, never secretive, life in at the time probably the capital of The World (now a rubbish bin) Let's just keep in our hearts her wonderful out of this World Acting and On Set Presence. Her magic in front of the camera for films or stills. Let me say that I belong to a very distant generation that never witnessed that Era with Chaplin, Keaton (Buster), Pickford, Swanson, Erich von Stroheim, and so many more that took what was just a fairground attraction and made out of it a New Form of Art building its grammar and vocabulary. A Language that maybe some other BIG names kept developing for a few years more, Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Brando, Newman, Taylor (Liz), etc. But since 1960 the the flow fade and fade and fade with less and less rare pearls appearing once in a while (Blade Runner, 1982. The Shawshank Redemption, 1994. The Dark Knight, 2008. Yes, The Dark Knigh. Because Genre no matters. TALENT AND EXCELENCE does.) to this very present day that Film Industry is not any more the main attraction for a looong list of very good reasons, nor Music Industry, nor TV, nor Streaming. People now (2024) under 40, 30, 20, 10...is almost completely devoted to Games, VideoGames. And that's the best possible scenario. Because there are other rising THINGS like Tik-Tok and similar crap. It should be mandatory have passed Primary School to be allowed to open an account there or even just watch it. Because I wonder why youngsters under 16 have acces to smartphones. With an easy awswer to find: Everything is within the framework of a master plan. An EVIL one. The 1% want all of us use our minds less and less every day goes by. And if possible, out of the streets. Recluses at home. The Brave New World of The Home Delivery. So they got all the old precious things of this Planet for themselves. And if someone, a person, a social collective, or an entire population, faces them, they can wipe out all of them out of this Planet with almost anyone noticing anything at all because everybody is hooked up to The Machine.
I never really got why she was considered such a beauty. She looks frozen in the stills. Here she is breathtaking and radiant.
The mother looked like a peasant !!
Attractive but nit the same face at all Garbo looked just like her father as many beautiful women take after there fathers
Either Miss Garbo was speaking in Swedish, German or English, her Classy and sweet voice was unrivalled, unique❤️👏
Miss Garbo was not an only extremely talented and a charismatic lady, but had a great intuition. Thank you for posting this clip.
"They" is Howard Hughes. He was a sadist.
Precious document showing Lovely Greta waiting to act: she was herself, studying her role as a true artist would have done.
I think she may have inspired Natasha Fitalle
Once i heared her story she was helper in a saloon. A film director came foe shaving in saloon and he saw greata garbo then he offered her for doing work in Hollywood.
Gray is a lovely, chic and unique name. It suits the grand-niece of the late and great, GG.
Thanks for this precious news: it keeps contact with Miss Garbo going, alive. Her memory need not be forgotten. Many people loved and still love her for the person besides her movie persona; greta, maybe, didn't value fame, but she loved to be admired and valued as a human being
I never liked that pretentious frozen look on her face. Maybe It was acted or a Hollywood identity. Well, if you're going yo be in a film don't act so stuck up. This is the 1st X I see mote natural expressions and a smile.
What you call stuck up others may call class.
When she smiles at @ 34 seconds she os reminiscent of Dolores del Rio.
why didnt they want to use her?
очень красивая. нет слов!
Wasn't it in 1990?
She died 1990 but it took 9 years for the family to decide where to bury Greta.
зачем умерла такая красота?
What’s the title of the background music?
its the music for the dying swan (ballet)
Greta's favourite cameraman, Bill Daniels, photographed this test. She always said he knew how to photograph her the best and they made many films together.
omg she was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful, omg
So-called "Greta Garbo" was born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson. Obviously just another example of 'Hollywood' deception & shallowness. Changing one's birthname is also disrespectful of heritage. The only valid reason of a name change is when women get married and add their husband's last name ...hopefully WITHOUT the unnecessary hyphen that sometimes is used, just for 'show'.
All golden age hollywood actresses changed their names
@@сиднипрескотт-щ3л That doesn't make it right.
It’s not about being right, but creating an image. Blame the public. Ppl aren’t going to remember names that aren't catchy. If you are going to get mad at a name get mad at the creation Hollywood molded them into because most actors at the time didn’t look like the person we saw on screen.
you are peace and joy everything that you want will come to you in that perfect time. unitedworldmarketinginc. is the property of their respective owners. go lovisa louise gustofsson. aka greta garbo go world go.......
Question: I understand she stopped doing movies in '41 largely because her films could not get distribution in Europe, where she was still successful. Why did it take until 1949 to screen test her again (since WWII ended in '45)?
Famous Austrian singer Falco recorded a fabulous tribute song to Greta Garbo. Falco- Garbo Listen you won’t regret it. ruclips.net/video/CuoV21PFuvA/видео.html
A really beautiful ladie. Nothing in surgery is done here. Look at her eyes, profile, teeths, etc.
A tribute to her alone is that she is still remembered and how she still creates an impression that is lasting. Unique...and if she was pitted against any actress who followed her to this day she would absolutely stand out. So beautiful BUT more importantly an actress with HUGE talent. Yes it is a shame she did not return to the screen...a huge loss but ohh her screen legacy is monumental.
Who's actually watched her movies? I don't think her style of acting has aged very well, honestly. The same can be said for a lot of those Old Hollywood stars. I'm not saying she wasn't a great talent, just that she seems old-fashioned and melodramatic now because conventions have changed.
In her last film "Two Faced Woman" MGM tried to change Garbo's old fashioned and melodramatic image by having her play a woman who attends nightclubs and shocks everyone with her naughty innuendos, has her dancing the rumba, has her laughing at dirty jokes, and indulging in generally shocking behavior in the nightclub. She tries to steal a man from Constance Bennett and lets Constance know what her plans are. In the film Garbo also tries to insinuate that she is a high priced prostitute who gets all of her beautiful dresses paid for by various men who remain unknown. In fact, the film was such a shocker that the Catholic Church told people not to go see it. Garbo's reaction to all the adverse publicity regarding the film contributed to her insecurities about any future movie projects. Incidentally, I loved "Two Faced Woman" and Garbo was good and funny in it.
Such an exceptional lady also had a very sweet and alluring voice. This documentary is important and unique. Thanks.
I love Carl Davis's beautiful score for this documentary! It fits Garbo's iconic image perfectly. Wong Howe's photography of Garbo is stunning - the richness and depth of the shadows and light. Daniels does a great job too, but his lighting is more flat.
