@707SonomaComa Thanks for the kind words! I had the custom rod builder (Dogfish Stik) build it with a short butt 20 or so years ago. I also have few rods my friend cut the butt to length and he added a cap on the end of it. I have not cut down the Ugly Stik rods since those are used by people coming on the boat.

It all depends where u plan to fish(offshore,shore,rock,boat) Longer rods are better for shore fishing since you get a better cast. For boats,it's better to use a fast action short strong rod

@fhhsswimmer129 for tuna less than 60 pounds this would be a great reel. You could also bump up to the next size. but I would use the 6500 Saltist reel for smaller tuna! catch them up! where are you mostly fishing?

@@RealFishin I am going on my first ever tuna trip leaving from NYC. About 60-80 miles offshore. Not really sure what to expect. I have this reel bit font know whether I should bring it with me to put it on a jigging or popping rod.

@fhhsswimmer129 yes, I would bring your setup for either jigging or a popping lure. you could easily swap between them. What size braid to you have on it? I would do 40 or 50. for leader, I would use the fluorocarbon 60 or 80 pound.

@ia6980 Tohatsu makes the smaller Mercury engines including this one. Mercury had a good deal on the extended warranty and the extended dealer network sold us!

@ia6980 one pull when it is cold? that's great! I previously had a 6 and 9.9 HP yamaha. both required more pulls when the engine was cold.

*My 2 stroke 15hp Mercury on 1O foot aluminum boat does 6Okmh/36mph with just me in it and I weigh 9Okg/2OO-2O5lbs. It's so much fun to fang around in. I get this speed with engine trimmed out as far as I can so basically only 2-3 inches of boat in the water. Happy Days.💯%*

@@RealFishin Both are great reels but the 6500 is a much larger reel. The 5000s have the Gomexus Power Handles that make a big difference too.

@BCBtrucks64 Yes, you can swap the handle to the other side. You would remove the cap and take off the handle. Then you need to put the cap and handle on the other side.

@yusufhassan7825, interesting. what size BG did you get? what are you fishing for mostly? I found the Penn Battle 2 5000 and 6000 complete trash. Maybe the series 3 is way better. I have had great luck with the BG 6500 and caught plenty of fish.

@aleksandyrveliki162 i would go with the tiger elite, it is way lighter of a rod.

@mattioder yes, still like the engine! two to three pulls if it the motor is cold (right when we put the boat in the water in the morning). If it is warm, it will usually start with one pull.
