Rogers bi-directional tom mount + floor tom mount; Pt2
This is the second part of a review of the Rogers bi-directional tom mount plus info on the new floor tom mount. You will see some practical examples of how to use these. The floor tom mount is a lot more useful than you might think.
The red sparkle floor tom has four accessory knobby mounts, plus three knobby mounts for the legs. I plan to cover this tom in more detail in another video.

Review of the Rogers Ultra-magic Bi-Directional Tom/ bass drum mount

I have been hoping Rogers would male something like this. It appears that the hex rod would be secured with "direct" contact pressure from the threaded T--handle, rather than "indirect" pressure as the walls of the knobby style or modern "eye-bolt" designs. I would think this direct contact from the new T-handle would result in slippage, marring of the hex rod chrome, dings in the hex rod surface, etc.
Hi BrassAttack1, The new mounts don’t have the issue of a T-rod making direct contact, digging into a tom leg. Instead it uses an ingenious internal hex shaped piece that grips when the t handle is tightened.
Bllujay9191, Thx for comments and questions! Check out current Rogers hardware at rogersdrumsusa.com. Yes, these mounts are available, and are a new design. I am not sure if they would wrk in the application you asked about. You might buy just one and experiment a bit. Here is a distributor: bigbangdist.com/ Thx agn!
Nice video. Do you know if these are currently in production and available? Do you happen to have a Rogers part number? Also, I've about had it with my Roland TD17-KVX rack. I play a left handed setup and there's a bunch of reasons why it just doesn't cut it. I'm wondering if I flip the bottom plate around and get some longer screws if I could secure these to the rack piping and use them for tom mounts? Curious if you have any thoughts.
Hi Jack, I just uploaded a video where I show how I mounted a crash cymbal from the top of my bass drum using the new bi-directional mount when playing a larger 2-up/2-up down setup: ruclips.net/video/dlety9yKgIs/видео.htmlsi=cYTKrw4PuCd8nYQT
Hi Jack, great overview of the new brackets. I was able to snag some of these when they were in stock to upgrade some of the hardware on my vintage Rogers kit! I like them! They make a nice upgrade for the old brackets, since the collet noses were so easy to damage or break.
Thanks, I hope they work well for you!
Hi Jack--I had the same thought! I bought some of these to upgrade my vintage Rogers kit, and I noticed the hole pattern on the new floor tom mount would also fit the oval plates for the new bi-directional tom mount. And yes, I also liked that the floor tom mount will more easily fit either a Rogers hex rod OR a larger post, such as a 10.5 mm L-rod, whereas the bi-directional mount will ONLY fit a hex rod or a 9.5 mm L-rod (which BARELY fits, and it's pretty tight). And I also had to use a stepped drill bit to make the holes slightly larger for the inside plate--otherwise, I could NOT get the bolts to go through.
Thanks for the report!
Hey everybody, Thanks for watching the video. Let me know if you have any questions. Jack
