Today's focus was to get more comfortable with certain techniques. Out of the three techniques in the video, I actually practice only one of them. The other two were demonstrated by others, so I wanted to try them. I'm not sure if all three would become my repertoire but it would give me more choices at the moment of necessity! I love big throws!
Today's focus was to simply add more experiences on Sumiotoshi. When there is a flow in the right speed, high falls feel light despite the thud sound. I love this spinning feeling! One of the key factors I'm learning now is that being a good uke taking high falls requires me to be alive every moment as uke. It requires focus, so when I'm physically tired, my movement gets very sloppy and heavy.
Today's focus was to try this technique which nage didn't hold on my arm securely to see how I would take high falls. In the beginning of my high fall journey, I used to do this, but of course I didn't execute my falls like this. I'm pretty happy about the outcome so far, but my right side (the front side in the video) doesn't look right and didn't feel right at the time either. What made the difference???
Крутиться волчок!!!
Today's focus was to go over Shodan test items continuously. There are more items as a whole but building more is important since going through the whole thing is somewhat intense. To be continued!
Today's focus was to continue assessing variables that make my high falls harder or softer. I requested nage to emphasize the top hand's rotation, and that made a huge difference to me. I hope by becoming a better uke with all these knowledge, I will become a good nage too.
Today's focus was to compare my right and left side of falls. To make my landing softer, I would like to stretch my arm so that it almost slides on the ground when it touches it, but as you see in this video, my left arm stretches but not right arm. I think it's something to do with the back foot kicking. My whole body needs to coordinate! 😅
😂😂😂 That's why you'll never see such techniques in real combat. The Hollywood Action Movie Generation
Today's focus was to execute various techniques from Yokomen-uchi, but I have to remind myself of having to attempt different openings so that I could execute other techniques. I felt stuck because I repeated the same opening this time.
Today's focus was to figure out why every time my high falls experience feels differently, no matter if I have the same partner or practice the same techniques. I'm aware that my skill of high falls isn't solid yet, but also my body condition and mind as well as nage's would create a variety of experiences. I also learned that how it appears to others don't match with how I feel often. For instance, it looked a bad high fall and yet I felt light and no pain, or vice versa. 🤷♀🤦♀
Nage will not always throw you in the exact same way each time and you will not always take your fall in the exact same way so each time can look and feel very different. Even the very slightest change in the technique can affect your ukemi tremendously. In regards to taking a bad high fall, I think your body adjusts to protect itself so even if it looks bad, you don't get injured. Also, sometimes you can take a fall that looks amazing but you can get hurt because of the slightest change of your back or foot position.
Today's focus was to see if my high falls execution is consistent after working on various areas and how I feel at this point. I'm definitely more comfortable with high falls themselves than before, but I became more aware of the difficulties with creating authentic high falls based on how nage throws me. Besides working on soft landing, this will be my next challenge. Meantime, I need to rest my body before another hard training.😄
Your movement is way better now 👌 better hip rotation and you follow the Ki direction. Try to reduce your resistent to Fall (easy to say but hard to do) and you will Fall way softer. If you hold the Connection to the Nage for too Long its difficult to Fall soft and correctly.
Thank you for your comment!
受け身の練習してる感じですよね。 大事な練習のはずなので、頑張ってください!
飛び受け身の練習を3か月前からしています。怪我をしないで合気道を楽しむために今年も頑張りたいと思っています。コメントありがとうございます!
Today's focus was to modify the timing of my back leg that kicks the floor in order to create softer landing. I'm collecting a lot of ideas from various aikidoka to find a best form that works for my body. I felt my left leg doesn't kick as I wanted it to. I guess I need leg exercise too! 🤣
Very nice demo of high falls! You got really low to the ground! Excellent control and execution!
Thank you for your comment!
Today's focus was to learn to execute Koshinage from various openings, such as Shomenuchi, Yokomenuchi, Tsuki, Katatetori, Ushiro Tekubitori, and Morotetori. This was a good start!
Today's focus was to feel the momentum and go into high falls naturally and smoothly. This nage gives me a great sense of connection so that I can stay calm and comfortable to receive the techniques. Uke in Japanese means a person who receives, and properly receiving nage's techniques is a challenge for me.
Today's focus was to increase my experience of taking high falls from a variety of people. This nage's throw felt good for me to take high falls in class, so I asked him to give me a few more. I'm still in a process of finding my own forms, but it's getting easier!
Today's focus was to execute high falls without counting on nage's support too much. I need to gain a sense of control of my body more. This nage's throws were very convincing to me to take high falls, and I really liked it!
Hobbies are fun
Today's focus was to brush up my memories and skills for Ushiro Tekubitori. My partner gave me committed attacks (= not static), so I was able to make some of my techniques more effective. I was looking for more varieties of techniques to execute. I'm very sure it'll get better.
Today's focus was to try this technique with once again a different nage. A different opening and hand grabs create new sensations, and I was trying to be sensitive and responsive. Easier said than done.
Today's focus was to execute at least 5 techniques from Katatori Shomenuchi. It is the same as 1st kyu test requirement, but I need to brush up my techniques to demonstrate strong techniques to become a blackbelt. I'm planning to build technical accuracy, intensity and speed over upcoming months. 😁
Today's focus was to try this new opening for Sumiotoshi high falls practice. I like it when nage really moves me by applying just right amount of force and tension. I struggled with doing so as nage in this video, and it's apparent when he changed his ukemi style. I need to become both good uke and nage.
Hope it wasn't too painful! The ukemi looks great! Happy New Year!
Thank you for your comment! Happy New Year!
Today's focus was to practice this variation of Kokyunage high falls. I'm still searching for the key factors of soft landing and particular forms that allow me to get back on my feet smoothly. High falls help me not get hurt from nage's techniques, so it would be ironic to get hurt from high falls themselves because of my hard landing! 😂 Welcome 2025! Let's practice!
Today's focus was to examine why I keep hitting my second foot on the mat so hard. I don't feel too much impacts on the rest of my body from high falls, but my feet end up hitting the mat quite hard. One thing I'm clear about is that I have to extend my knees more, and my journey will continue in 2025! Happy New Year, everyone!
maybe stop doing aikido if they cant explain why and start doing some real things like judo - they'll teach you how to fall on the mat properly. That was actually the first thing I learned there.
Today's focus was to try a variation of Kokyunage I just saw on social media. This throw was very comfortable to take high falls, but I'm not sure if it was because of the technique or it was the nage. I trusts her as well as like being thrown by her. Thank you Senpai!
Today's focus was to simply take high falls during the holiday season. However, one thing I learned this time is that giving my body a break when having too much soreness and/or pain is a part of practice. The last fall hit the same bruised spot as you see! 😂
Today's focus was to try high falls from different openings. When connectivity between the two people changes, I still feel uncertain about my ukemi especially high falls. This was of course planned to execute high falls, but one day I hope to execute it naturally!
😂😂😂
Today's focus was to extend the first leg that goes up in the air to create the right momentum for a big circular trace. It has been a big challenge for me! Another focus was to execute the high falls movement both mentally and physically till I get back on my feet. Many small experiments to move various body parts differently also took place in this video. Some failed and some felt good. 😆
Today's focus was to not stop the motion once I lay on the mat but intend to let the momentum going to get back on my feet. I'm big on mental image training and having clear intention. Nage allowed me to have a smooth flow, so I felt pretty good in this video though my legs don't like to stretch out more. That is my next challenge! Since there was a lot of background noise this time, I put music on. Happy holidays!
Excellent ukemi! I really liked the way you came right back up to your feet and so smoothly! It's great seeing your progression! Keep the videos coming! They're always a pleasure to watch! And the Christmas music is awesome! Merry Christmas!
Thank you for your comment!
Today's focus was to evaluate how my body takes high falls without much thinking. I like the feeling of Sumiotoshi, so I tried to solely enjoy the technique in this practice. Some progress is noticed here for smoother and softer high falls but it became even clearer to me what I'm missing currently. One step at a time!
Looks great!
Thank you!
Today's focus was to again stay upright as much as possible so that I have my balance to play a good uke role, such as continuing to attack and reversing besides staying safe. I asked nage not to drop me hard in this practice so that I could work on building my core strength. If I had a pair of roller skates on, it could be so easy! 😂
Ириминаге красиво плавно и безметежно это гармония ❤
Thank you for watching!
This is great. Weapons are always fun to watch!
I agree! Doing it is also fun! Thank you for watching!
This looks great. Don't be shy w the advil tomorrow.
Thank you for watching. I always have Advil with me.😂
It looks like you were able to get to your feet faster on the throws that had more projection. They looked softer as well. I really liked the way that you took the high fall in motion. That's a great addition to your practice of high falls!
Thank you for your comment!
Today's focus was to experience a new nage for this Kokyunage high falls. Every nage throws differently and it is helpful to feel it in a controlled way in the beginning. Connection is fundamental, so we communicated and collaborated to make it work throughout this practice. Towards the end of this clip, I felt much better.
Today's focus was to have more solo practice to figure out good forms for my body. I love practice, but only one downside is that your body pays the price if you bang the same spots too many times. I want to have optimal practice, so I need to make sure to take care of myself too!
This video was to help myself analyze the trace of my body movement in high falls. I compare this with others who have ideal soft high falls and learn the differences. I almost start hating gravity! 😂
Today's focus was to experiment my body's usage when taking high falls. As my fear of hitting my head on the floor has subsided over the past 2 months of high fall practice, more questions arose. How can I take high falls more softly? How much do I need to kick up my leg? How much should I swing my head down? I'm trying to visualize the trace of motion and obviously I'm not there yet, but small progress/realization happens in every practice!
Great video
Thank you for watching!
Today's focus was to stay up as much as possible and have my balance as uke, which requires a lot of core strengths. I don't do squats, so that's what I'm going to work on. In this video, my footwork was focused. Many more of these will come soon!
Thank you for posting another great video! This is an excellent point you focus on. The footwork before the fall is a very important aspect of having good ukemi. I'll remember to focus on that as well in my training!
Ahhh yes the art of dance fighting lmfao. As useless as capoeira in a fight. We no longer have to disarm an attacker wielding a sword. Nor is your attacker going to come at u with a pre planned movement you're ready to defend. Aikido is useless lol
Today's focus was to get back up to continue next move (=uke's attack). Thinking that my ukemi is not done till I'm back on my feet helped me. I actually continued my practice after vowing to my nage once because I wanted to understand how to actually use my arm that touches the floor first to support my ukemi. I'm tired of hitting my arm on the mat too hard!
For softer landing and dont hurt your Hand: let your pivote Point sink (for a beginner near your own knee, for intermediate directly under your hips) and Shift your weight over this Point like you do when you role. This creates a Momentum and a soft fall. Attention at your hips as well, dont rotate to much to your nage, this can break the Momentum and create a breakfall
Today's focus was to again try a new nage for Shihonage high falls. More and more I recognize the inevitable differences among various nage's throws and my responsibilities to adjust my ukemi. Since the original fear of high falls is decreased, I want to focus on softening my landing next.
Today's focus was to take high falls from proper Shihonage hand positions. We collaborated and communicated well to be able to do this safely and enjoyably. Aikido is not just skills but connections on so many levels between partners, and that's the beauty of this art. 🥰
