Even from Australia I can see he's pooping himself as he blusters on the same lily-livered cover-my-arse carry on in an eerily similar vein to all those officials who failed the wrongly accused postmasters and mistresses so miserably. I've seen Ian Hislop pull apart self-aggrandising politicians grand-standing at a corruption enquiry and appreciate his superb logic and the manner in which he cut through the pollies' obfuscation. You're lucky to have someone in journalism who is so very smart.

I’ll only note that the Post Office scandal is one of the peaks of an iceberg of corporate greed and general selfishness and nastiness licensed by the neoliberal economic revolution, lauded by the Tories and New Labour since 1979, and causative in this injustice. Hislop may, like the rest of us, be outraged at such manifest evil, but his status quo politics would do absolutely nothing about the embedded unfairness of the system.

Just before the ITV drama dropped, BBC Radio 4 did an excellent exposé over several weeks which exposed everything in painful detail. I have not seen it discussed anywhere. People are only interested in the version with actors in it, which is not as factually accurate or rigorous Radio 4's work went unremarked because people can't concentrate on facts unless it's in a story.

The only thing that I find troubling with Ian his own bias shines through, it wasn't just the Conservatives Labour knew this system didn't work when it was deployed, if I have this right it was a system that was commissioned by Labour for the DWP and it didn't work then. The Conservative Lord unable to remember his name, pushed pushed and pushed the post office more than anyone else to get answers

Too much is missing in that timeline. Horizon started in 1995. It has had 2 backdoors from day 1. One for ICL and 1 for MI5/Govt agencies for payments of dole etc. etc. (John Bruce, MI5 consultant is being shielded by the Inquiry) Then it's right for a short while. Then Peter Mandelson gets Section 69 of PACE removed, making prosecutions possible from 2000 onwards. I got involved in 2008.

Hislop is great, sadly the Eye became very partisan and i cancelled my subscription. It worked best when it had an equal desire to highlight the mess on all sides of our politics and business . Shame really , can only assume they, like many media outlets saw a greater profit from a specific demographic.

When will we see senior people in court and subsequently behind bars with their assets sequestrated as proceeds of crime?
