Very informative George, good job.👍
Cheers, I thought it might be interesting for folk that know Bathgate.
My Paternal Grandparents were from Paisley & immigrated to Canada in the late 1800's. My Grand Mother , I've been told, was Lady Jane Bryson. My father was born in Canada in 1903.
Have you ever visited Scotland? I'm sure if you check the census records you could find out where they lived, that would be an adventure, cheers g
Great video, didn't feel the music complimented it
How could I improve the music, faster or slower?
love this. Fiundit by accident and loved seeing my hometown!
I hope I did it justice with my video
Hi George I’m enjoying the videos, brilliant,it’s great you know your History let’s folk know what’s been going on all those years past, great Pal.
A huge thanks for this video. I'm an Ayr born lad only a few short weeks off turning 80, but I left Ayr for the land down under in 1954 aged 9. My Grandparents and their children including my mother lived in a flat above what is now Aldi (as best a guess based on a family history story my Uncle wrote.) They moved to Lochside Rd. I think in the late 1930's. I vaguely remember walking up and down the main street and going over the bridge, I remember friends and I trying to row a boat on the river, probably in the early 1950's. I also remember the beach.
I'm sure so much has changed over the years, not always for the best. I'm glad you enjoyed my video, I love sharing Scotland with the rest of the world. I've lost track of the many kind messages from expats glad of a view of home. Cheers g.
A very pleasant vid that brought back good n bad memories, as a child cycling down the coast from Port Seton to the newt and frog ponds across the wooden bridge, as an adult, the waggon Inn was Fabulous for meals with exceptional staff. The chippy was also great. About 6.9 in I see the white house on left where entrance to waggon Inn was , I noticed the reddish timber pillar at main door which I installed over 20years ago is good as new. The Earl of wemyss was a great guy also his wife and I used to stop for a pint with my brother's dog in the inn and Nigel tranter the author was also there with his lab, made it interesting when both dogs trying to settle in front of log 🔥 without fisticuffs..., However,as wife and I were returning from beach a tad muddy I simply enquired at golf club car park to a "gentleman" If club house was open to non visitors for a coffee, the snooty git looked down on me and exclaimed, certainly not in that attire😂 I replied I don't go out on the mud in my Sunday best . That's always been a problem with Aberlady , and the coast in general, full of golf people that think they own the place.
@rha4374 yes, sometimes golf clubs can be so snooty, I have had it too. Civility costs nothing. I'm glad my vid triggered good memories for you, that's why I make them, sometimes you wonder if folk will watch them and I am always surprised with the amount of nice comments, from all around the world, cheers g
My mother in law used to live in the black and white corner house at 3 mins 56 secs in.
@valeriehastie5522 that's the best looking house too
Missed The River snd the Hill. 😢Many Happy childhood memories flooding back. ❤
I try and keep the videos shortish, I could film more but most viewers only watch about 10 mins. Thanks for your comment, im glad it stirred memories for you, cheers g.
❤, thanks for your video. I was there Sept 2024 visiting my sister
Very good George,I love the music, well done Pal.

Stayed in Girvan recently. Best AirBnb ever. Paid the same price for worst AirBnb ever in Oban. Walks near Girvan are spectacular, some of the best. But Girvan itself is sad, needs refurbishment/advertising/Something to draw the tourists in. Lots of potential but the walks/forests/ scenery need to be promoted more because there is nothing to draw people to Girvan itself.
I'm glad you liked it, I can't see money being spent in the area any time soon, it could be a nice wee place , like crail.
I lived in Loganlea & went to the Ramsay Tech...the beach was just a hundred yards away.
A fair hike fae dykes tae porty lol
Brilliant George,I always look forward to your videos, keep them going Bud.
Cheers pal
Quit being deluded; I was brought up here in Crookedholm and Hurlford from age 3-16; it is a run-down shite hole full of junkies and neds n scum now. When I was a kid my gran worked at the Kay Park trampoline and crazy golf hut, so always got free entry lol, the old baths with the wave machine were a treat, as were The Galleon, The Dean Park and free tours for having a library ticket was good, 20p for a bag of animal feed. Some of my best memories are in this shite hole, but that is the thing, as a kid you are oblivious to the scum bags. ;)
Who in their right mind decided to move the ferry terminal to Cairnryan in the middle of nowhere and took all the business away from Stranraer..
@@Valhalla-or8mx the greedy ferry companies I guess
@@thewanderingkilt4698 More likely the Council..
The council kept putting lower and lower speed limits in Loch Ryan, till the ferry companies decided enough and moved out.@@Valhalla-or8mx

Very nice video - thinking of visiting the Hendricks Gin Palace and wanted to see more of the area. Lovely little town! Thanks for sharing.
@RandallHeath1121 my pleasure, pay a visit to the museum when you are there, cheers g.
I'm doing a fictional novel set at BMC in 1966 that is a murder/mystery. The hero of the book (a Graduate Trainee) does a stint at Bathgate where Harold Musgrove was Plant Director. I've got some stories from Harold of those days, but any others from people who worked there would be great. I'm an ex Austin Apprentice!
you have a very relaxing way of speaking, thought i'd tell you as a lot of people don't know how to narrate these types of vids, it's nice :)
Thank you Emily, at first I didn't like the sound of my voice, but after the first fifty videos I got used to it. It's nice when I get comments as I never know if the musics OK or if people just want me to shut up lol, cheers g
Morning Beautiful video with the perfect soundtrack ❤ We've never visited Portpatrick but it is on our must visit list for a while. Looks lovely Have a great Sunday Morgs Jo and Boo ❤
Thank you so much, im glad you enjoyed it, cheers g
I've always known we have Scottish ancestors, but it didn't show up in my specific Ancestry DNA results-though my cousin's did. Well, my mother finally took the 23andMe test, and hers confirmed Scotland, with a "very close" genetic link to Fife! I’ve been to Edinburgh before, and I absolutely loved it-it felt like home.
Fife is such a beautiful part of Scotland, check out some of my other videos from there, culross, dysart, crail, pittenweem, falkland and st andrews. It will give you an idea of the place. I hope you visit sometime soon. Have you traced your ancestry? It could lead you to some amazing places.cheers g.
Love the views, stayed for the background soundtrack. The wife's family is from around there(Montgomerys).. Cheers and thanks.. Steve 😎
@kujo5424 thanks steve, I really enjoyed making this one. I do all the music myself, so I'm always chuffed when folk like it. Thanks again for watching, cheers g
Great video mate. A nice wee trip down memoery lane for me. Flannigans was my first pub ever, and i loved it there. To be fair, most pubs in Bathgate were good back in the 80s. The auld miners was superb on a Sunday for a sing song and the best characters you could ever meet. Its been 40 years since i was last in my hometown, and its changed so much, why have they destroyed the steel yard 😢
@thetone1526 Bathgate was brilliant years ago but I guess it's just the same everywhere. The local clowncil is all about livi and to hell with everyone else. Glad you enjoyed it, I did one of Whitburn and Armadale too, cheers g.
This was the home of my 4th great grandmother , Mary Bathgate. She migrated to America in 1851. Not much there she would recognize. She was born there in 1797.
@randyhunter7611 there are a few buildings dating before then.cheers g
My
The Waterfall in Armadale. I had my engagement party in it. Its the new Doctors Surgery now.
When did it move?
Hi, may I know whether one to two hours of walking is enough to see all the places in this video?
@truth8307 yes, probably about two hours if you include a ☕️ ,cheers g
Very relaxing viewing, Well done 👍
Thanks,im glad you liked it. It gives folk an idea of places to visit, and a wee chill out too, cheers g.
I've been in more attractive War zones.
@2msvalkyrie529 ha ha ha, I guess it's not for you then. How many warzones have a greggs? Lol
Actually, Jim Jeffries was brought up in Wallyford, a village 1 mile south of Musselburgh. A village with a host of professional footballers and managers, namely, Jock Wallace (Rangers FC) Jim Jeffries (Heart of Midlothian FC) John McGlynn (various, now Falkirk FC) Pro Footballers; Tam McLeod (Falkirk FC) Jim (Jumbo) Brown (Aston Villa) Tommy Donaldson (Aberdeen FC) plus others.
@willbee6785 it's a bit like broxburn/Uphall you dare not get it wrong even though they are joined together, thanks for the comment, sometimes I do get things wrong, cheers g.
@@thewanderingkilt4698 No problem. 👍
Reputed to be the cheapest area in the UK to buy a house.
I sometimes used to go on holiday to Girvan when I was a child in the 1960s. I remember going on the little motor boats around the boating pond and I can remember there was also a futuristic structure on the island in the middle. Maybe my memory deceives me, but Girvan is looking very run down compared to what I can remember.
From 3:02 myself and my wife are in this video lol Right side shorts and checkered shirt Stopped to yap
Well spotted
Morning Throughly enjoyed this. Thanks for all the information and history. Hope you're having a good weekend
Thanks for watching, im filming Lake Garda in Italy just now, not Scotland but beautiful too, cheers g.
Ive lived in Arbroath since i was 5, now 55. A once vibrant, busy wee town has.been run down by an incompetent wasteful council and a massive unwanted influx of immigrants.
No. Brought up there, left 47 years ago. Went last week and was horrified at the main street. Only lasted 1 night. Won't be back.
That's a pity, sometimes our memories of a place are better left alone. Going back can be tough
Thank you for this, my family is deeply tied to this area (McDonnalls and Grahams) and it was great to see what the area looks like 💚
My pleasure, im glad you enjoyed it.cheers g.
i hardly reconise the new builds
I know, the place has changed quite a bit
Lovely video , and the music what is the music please ❤

@elizabethrobertson5533 ha ha, that's very kind of you, youtube doesn't allow copyright music, and as I play keyboards and guitar I recorded music that goes with my films, it's not to everyone's taste but one of my tracks has been played on local radio so they must be OK, cheers g.

Is it the same size as the gibson LP? How about the weight?
Yes, almost exactly the same size and VERY heavy, it's absolutely solid. I would got for the next model up with stainless steel frets. Hope this helps
Thanks,I like heavy guitars because it helps the tone
I was in Bo'ness recently and was also struck by the number and quality of Art Deco buildings. However, you have missed out a lot by sticking to the town centre. Travel up the hill and some of the houses are stunning.
@fionaramsay9157 unfortunately I have found that people tend not to watch more than 10 minutes so I try to get as much in as I can, to give a flavour of the area. Thanks for your comment, cheers g
Nice one George
if you want good sounds. I recommend that you can record an video in the front of your amp. Or buy an otg connecter. because if you use that. Your guitar videos or sounds will sound good.
God awful singing and song.
