Is this a joke or a way to get RUclips points with all of the feedback ?
You culled the toilet…all the way around the back, no less. That’s like breaking one of the 10 commandments. You’ll never know your wax seal is leaking until your subfloor is a soggy rot of mess.
Wheew!😢
You should NEVER caulk a toilet base. Period.
I like the painter tape trick. Good idea. But… You shouldn’t seal the back of any toilet. If the seal ever fails you need the water to escape through the back. Otherwise you will have a leak that goes through the grout and into the subfloor. Water has no place to go and will rot the subfloor before you discover the issue.
How does he know if the system's level he's not used a spirit level ?
I tried this white adhesive tape but it wouldn't stick to ceramic toilet base
You don't Caulk a Toilet.
I can’t believe you left Florescent light there and tiled around it
What kind of caulk; latex or silicone? You didn't say, or did I miss it?
Just became a subscriber. Over the years as home owner I caulked several things and they all came out messy. I just caulked toilet base with your instructions. It came out professionally looking. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!❤❤❤
Why would you make a video about something you have absolutely zero knowledge about. I have been a professional caulker for over 40 years and have had to fix more sealant that was installed by incompetent/ignorant people than I care to remember
Ha! LOL'd at 24:26 for the triumphant mention of (actual) Tank Bolts! ;-)
😂😂😂😂 he tried y’all
What ever happened to the tried & true method of setting a toilet on plaster of paris?
😳 The Benny Hill soundtrack was very fitting for that monstrosity.
I’ve been weighing my options for a backsplash and with your video I believe I’ve decided in a penny backsplash. Wondering if you used both sides of the coin or if you stuck with heads or tails?
I marked my shims with blue tape. Removed the shims and cut them using the blue tape as a reference. Then Place shims and tap in place. I can see people wrecking their floor doing his way.
Loved your demonstration .But the music was so annoying
Looks horrible
Thank you for this info badly needed 🙏
I tried caulking and realized I enjoyed since the tube was soft
Good Lord that was horrible. I sure hope you don't make your living doing that.
Say everything is very uncer in. 🤔 Well, using a slight interpretation I reckon that is a correct assessment. I'm through. Have a great day.🙄
What do you do if they install a new toliet that is maller (base) and leaves 3 to 4 inch spaces open around the ceramic tile floor.
If the flooring doesn't run close enough to the toilet flange to be covered by the new toilet, you need to get another toilet with base dimensions as close to the original toilet.
Messy work. Hope your not a contractor. Wouldn't fly at my place.
He did a fabulous job compared to the "professional" Lowes sent to my home, 1/2 inch gap, toilet levitating, no caulk at all and we are now 8 phone calls in and 2 visits back to Lowes to remedy this cluster. As professional left, he told me to shim it with wood ....
Bad job.
I was told you should not caulk the back incase there is a leak, but you caulked the back.
never caulk the back.
This is what not to do. That looks like crap
You never do.
Never caulk around the back of a toilet! If there’s a leak, you need to know! The tape is a HUGE waste of time (and tape); and who the heck caulks THAT wide of a caulk line??? 😳. Holy crap that has got to be the worst toilet caulk job I have ever seen in my life.
Pretty lady i was thinking the same thing. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism.
So helpful! Thank you for posting
I’m noticing my toilet kinda of settles when I sit on it and the caulk looks to be pulling off the floor. Can I just do what you did?
Why no shims in the front? That gap is huge.. you get a heavy person drop a decent size load and that toilets going to split.
Lol
I just had a "professional" installation of a new toilet by Lowes and they left the toilet with 1/2 inch gap in the front and also gaps all around toilet.. blamed the floor and size of toilet. No caulk, triple stacked shims in 2 places on the lateral sides near front. Huge gaping holes around toilet base. No attempt to make it look nice, but told me, the customer to get wood shims to fix it and left.
@@Kiri_wa_doko_desu_ka In my experience, rarely will you find a quality contractor that needs to source his work from a big box store like Lowe’s or Home Depot. It’s usually the sub-par contractor or one that either is brand new with no experience or with such poor skills and or work ethic that he cannot develop a customer base or following on his own. We’ve been burned several times before we learned this difficult lesson. Big expensive ouch $$$!!!! Just sayin. My advice. Take it or leave it… 😊
I feel like you over complicated it. I use grout not caulking but I have before. I squeeze the caulking than fallow behind with a wet sponge.
What kind of grout? I was considering the same. Thanks.
Noooo don't use grout. Will be insane to remove if you need, and it will crack making it not waterproof. If you're thinking grout, just skip the caulk.
@@hermtastic lol I'm a plumber I have tons of customers that prefer grout, it is not hard to remove. Wipe away with a sponge it comes right up... if you pull a toilet you can gently tap the grout with the back of pliers and a chisel or flathead screw driver and it comes up...
I’m sorry but this looks like shit LOL
never never never chaulk a toilet if you have a seal leak you;ll never know til 6 months later when your in the basement and look up.
Caulk a toilet yes; caulk the backside of a toilet NO! For that exact reason.
Bad news is that this is a terrible and overly time consuming caulk job. Good news is you'll get a chance to redo it when you develop a leak because the wax seal has been compromised by shimming after installing the toilet. You should shim before snugging the flange bolts.
@bokonoist I put a wax ring in, still see a gap and slight rocking. Are you saying to put shims down before placing toilet, then caulk? I'm a lady do trying to learn how to do it right.
@@deemac8231 You need to shim before snugging down the flange bolts. Think about what's happening w/ the wax ring - it can compress, but it will not rebound, so it's a one-way street. You compress it by snugging down the flange bolts. If you subsequently shim the toilet, the wax won't rebound to fill the gap that shimming created, and you will get a leak.
Use the Fluidmaster Better Than Wax toilet seal. There's no mess, and you can re-position the toilet without damaging the seal.
Very creative - well done
Question: Silicon vs poly urethane caulk? Any advantages to one or the other?
I just installed a toilet and I used DAP silicone Max since it has a quick set time, flexible and is mildew resistant but I don't know if the polyurethane offers the same or not.
100% silicone it doesn't hold mold and it's waterproof
I found that 100% silicone caulk is near impossible to remove if any follow up repair work is ever necessary. I have personally sworn that stuff off in most applications in favor of a hybrid siliconized acrylic by ColorFast.
@@NixonAngelo Never use any dap product other than acrylic latex for paint prep. It is garbage
@@johnpitre2539 I have been a professional caulker for over 40 years. You are absolutely WRONG. Silicone is the only acceptable sealant in this application
This was very helpful as I was thinking that I needed to lift the toilet an inch or two in order to put some kind of leveling compound. Shims are much better. And caulk. Caulk covers many sins😈
Thomas Ruwart that's one of the best quotes I've ever heard. "Caulk covers my sins." 😆 Yes sir I believe in regards to the frustration's I will no doubt have my patience tried by fire, dang Murphy, I prefer to simply get my homework done and move on. What happened to simplicity? It's seems the older I get the more today's multitude of make life easier product's that I find never work like their claim causing us to have to make adjustments and or modifications in another area to compensate for the make life easier products,😝🥴, HELP!!!🙏. This old dog is worn out from going in circles chasing his tail. 😵 ENOUGH!!! Yes sir, give me the caulking and be through with it, done, finished, caput. "Caulk cover's my sin's." 👍 There's a demon in the details. Even the corrective spelling program in this stupid smartphone won't except the word "sin's" therefore has to be forced manually. 😖WHEW!!! I'm calling it a day. Good Day!
When using a utility knife, count your fingers before and after just to make sure 😈
Thanks for coin trick I shared with my Habitat co-workers....
Awesome thank you!
Too much caulk. Looks bad. Better to use a shim and strike caulk flush to base of toilet since there is such a big gap.
Appreciated the physical warm up tips! :-D Nice video.
Thanks for the video I liked the coin trick . Turn the shims over and score the solid side, they are supposed to snap away from the corrugations. Also, a foam backer rod would save you a lot of caulk.
Thanks for the info
WAY too much caulk, geez
He likes cawk leave him alone 😂
Right?! Omg, worst toilet caulk job I’ve ever seen. So bad.
Excellent video! One of the most articulately explaned videos i've seen!🙂
You got to much time in your hand buddy .
This is wonderful! I taught my girls how to put in a new shower, a new faucet, light the hot water heater, tile a floor etc. They have used those skills numerous times and are not afraid to try and take care of maintenance themselves. Keep up the great work of spreading your knowledge.
I had the same problem with some of my peat pots, so I started watering every other day from the top and then misting in between and then everything took off. Bottom watering, no matter what the package says, just didn't seem to work with them. The tomatoes (San Marzano) are already in pots out back and doing great. Are you going to do anything on canning or other ways of storing over winter? Doing a lot of reading but just haven't seem to find what will work here.
Painting it black, it's like you guys know me or something ;)
