    I think at $100 a month and being able to sub and unsub when and if you want to use it makes it pretty enticing. I live in rural Pennsylvania, and have no idea how FSD would actually perform in my area. An $8000 gamble would be crazy, but I would absolutely try it out for a few months to decide how I like it for $100 a month.

    As an older driver this is awesome. I just bought my first Tesla, a Model Y with fsd. I am blown away by how good it is. It drives better than I do most of the time, though it still makes a few mistakes. I drove it all over Albuquerque and northern New Mexico. I didn't trust it on ice but it worked great most everywhere else. It was going too fast for local laws so I had to limit it to the actual speed limit. I highly recommend it for older and impaired drivers.

      Using fsd is a skill that I think is well worth learning. I find it much less stressful driving with it than without it. But I am older and have lost a few steps. I used to enjoy driving but now I would rather be a passenger. And the cost is not an issue for me. I haven't had any accidents or close calls yet but a singe accident could be devastating. Compared to that the cost of fsd is nothing.

    Thank you for your video review of FSD. I have just started doing the 30 day trial of FSD 13.2.2 using STANDARD mode profile. The first small trip I did, FSD did 2 disengagements where one not sure why it did it, and the 2nd was a exit parking lot error. My other 2 small trips went good with no issues. So far version 13.2.2 is allot better than previous version 12.5.6. Still not perfect. I will still NOT get FSD after my trial is complete. Reason, I am retired and on a fixed income. I need that 99 dollars per month FSD subscription money for other necessities. I want to see where the Economy is going Under Trump and I feel things are going to increase and get worse in 2025 under this new Regime. I also feel FSD is a luxury item. I am physically capable of driving my Tesla vehicle myself. The short daily trips I do around town does not require my car to drive itself. So for right now, FSD is a NO GO for me. If I was still working and younger, I would probably get the feature. If FSD ever becomes free for everyone to use is the only time I would think about using it. Happy New Year to everyone.

    Valuation is freaking hard. Because no other vehicle has this. Waymo has their own thing, but you cannot buy a Waymo with all that sensors and everything. I think $99/month is good but they should reduce the buy-out price for a typical ownership time. Like if, on average, people tend to use their Tesla’s for 5 years, just make it 5 years x $99 = ~$6k buy-out price.

    • @DriveElectricToday
      @DriveElectricToday День назад

      I completely agree. $6k for an average lifecycle of 5 years for a car makes perfect sense. Much more reasonable.

    • @KSBond007
      @KSBond007 День назад

  • @quadsis5569
    @quadsis5569 День назад

    Also, you need to subscribe to the FSD for ~6 years to balance the buy-out price. I still think it’s cheap but maybe subscription is better for you, if you plan to sell it, because I don’t think you can add $8k to the selling price. People still don’t value it that much

    I am on my third free test period in the last year. Rural driving in my area. FSD was scary to me a year ago. 6 Months ago it was better, however irritating enough that my wife could not stand to ride with me when it was turned on. I would drive with it on for the entertainment when driving alone, freeway driving was even helpful. Right now 13.2.2 is a lot better, smooth turns from a stop sign, not the wheel wiggle crazy moves that were present a year ago. My wife even lets me have it on when she rides with me, she has complaints, but she complains when I am driving as well. The free cruse control has bugs that drive us crazy, random braking, as well as braking for cross traffic, even when the cross traffic will easily clear the intersection . These issues do not seem to show up under FSD. FSD can be a much better cruse control if nothing else. The biggest complaint I have now is the speed control, in chill mode it thinks nothing is wrong going 15 mph over the posted speed. It does not slow down when the posted speed drops. It disregards school zone with flashing lights, wants to do 35 in a 20mph school zone. For me I think FSD will be worth it going froward. I am and aging driver. I expect FSD in the near future will make me a much safer driver, this has not been the case in the past. What we do not know is what the cost for FSD will be in the future. At one point they raised the price to $15k, claiming it would only get more expensive as it got better. The current $8k and $100/mo pricing could be gone, they may return to the "it will only get more expensive" policy. In that case the $8k price is the only way to lock in this feature. But it is hard to write a check for $8K, I do intend to keep the car for another 8 years, we will see.

    • @DriveElectricToday
      @DriveElectricToday День назад

      Agreed with everything you mentioned! My wife also is hesitant with driving on FSD mode, but is slowly getting more comfortable under version 13. I have also noticed that the car fails drastically to slow down upon entering a slower speed limit. Example - going from a 45 to 25. The vehicle will continue to ride at 45, requiring me to manually slow it down. I really hope Tesla implements a fix for this soon.

    The car stopping to let the other car cross in front of you is dangerous, you had an open lane on your left, I have seen many cars getting T-Boned because the car coming down the left lane cannot see that car coming out. If you were in a single lane that may be ok but how Tesla handled that was wrong & dangerous!

    • @DriveElectricToday
      @DriveElectricToday День назад

      That is actually a great point. Looking at it from that perspective, I can absolutely see this situation can cause a rather large problem. Perhaps FSD should prioritize itself first rather than letting others by if there is a double lane. Single lanes might be a bit safer.

I really enjoy using v13, but even this morning I had to intervene twice in one very short drive because it tried taking an exit off the freeway from a lane that doesn't even exit (slightly terrifying). It then proceeded to mount an inclined center median for an entrance to a business park that you can clearly see is there and prevents people leaving from turning out left. It's far beyond what v12 was and I love using it, but we are still so far from perfect.

      Agreed! It's super important to stay vigilant with FSD. I can't stress that enough.

    Angle from the right side of your shoulder looks better and clearer to me! (the 1st person POV video seems a bit foggy) Thanks for the video! FSD is not legally allowed in my country (South Korea) yet but hope they legalize it here cause I sure would love to see how FSD does on the Korean roads

      Thank you for the feedback! And thank you for the support! I hope FSD will be available to you in South Korea soon!

    I think self driving is the future. I also think it’s going to be an adjustment for old heads like me and am in no hurry.

      Haha yeah! It will absolutely be a major shift in mentality and routine for all drivers around the world! Time will tell how well the adoption will go!

    Probably "hurry mode" is trained on humans who drive faster; they are likely to get closer to other cars even when there's no need to do so. We can't assume FSD will always be logical, it was trained by humans and they sure aren't 😂

      One of the challenges is that because the car needs no reaction time at all, it could ride right on the bumper of the car in front of you without being unsafe, but your instincts are to not trust the car. Maybe eventually that will change.

      @@ArtStoneUS Sure, I'll be happy for it to do that once it's unsupervised and proven safer than human drivers - and it should help traffic by taking less space on the road. But for as long as it's supervised, it needs to give the human behind the wheel time to react. And when there's plenty of space on the road and nobody trying to cut in front, there's really no reason not to give yourself more space - even if FSD could react instantly, its stopping distance is not zero.

    I just started using FSD on a newly purchased Model 3 LR. So far, I have been very impressed but there have been a few cases where a few unsafe maneuvers have been performed. One case was on a freeway where the Model 3 overtook a slower moving car in the rightmost lane on a curve. Changing lanes on a curve should not be performed. There was not much room between the Tesla and the slower moving vehicle when the Tesla changed lanes. Yes, stay vigilant.

      Agreed! I had situations very similar to, even with version 13. So I’m very attentive and ready to disengage at any moment.

    Don’t know if FSD can honk the horn, but we know that waymo cars can 😂

    Last night a small deer popped up on the side of the road, and surprisingly, the car completely ignored it and actually provided no indication it even "seen" it. Kind of sketched me out. The speed limit was 45, and FSD was driving. The deer was maybe 6 feet off the roadside

      That is definitely is unsettling. I wonder if the reaction would have been different if the deer was nearing the road.
