Games aren’t expensive. It’s paying for HR and the gender commissars to ruin games that’s expensive. Economy of scale has made games cheaper than ever. From no longer needing discs to even massive publishers and being just able to use steam. Games should be cheaper than ever, yet the gender mafia and HR taking over these big companies and bloating them is causing them to skyrocket

`Make it public` Sure, I would like to see anyone working on anything for 5-10 years and then giving it away to the public for free. Also video game development is really hard, expensive and multi faceted.

Just to reiterate; We've never owned games, we've only ever purchased licenses to play. This has been true since the 1980s. On top of this, Steam has always offered you the opportunity to "own" the files to the games you buy: Right click on any game in your library, click Installed Files, then click "Backup game files". Do many of these games themselves have DRM that would prevent you running them? Yes. Is that the marketplace forcing the developers to do that? No. This californian law is merely populist rhetoric that does nothing to solve the real problem we have: DRM.

How much do you get paid per hour? It takes about 12 hours to code jumping into a game. It doesn't cost a lot to make games? GTFO

Let them be anti consumer and monopolistic all they want let's find all these fired talent who built this industry and start our own lane.

Well it's time to start a new gaming and media industry where people can purchase full ownership of their copy. Sounds like a great market easy money considering digital content is infinite.

I doubt this will happen, but i think that digital copies should now be cheaper Since they recognize now that you don't own the product, unlike physical media.

This is why i just choose to play free games. (There used to never be a decent free game, now there is plenty of them around. If you dont like it just dont buy it, boo hoo,womp womp, drizzle drizzle, ect.)

That was very enlightening. I also have hundreds of Euros on my Steam account and I was of the impression that the DRM stuff was only exclusive to a minority of (mostly) AAA games.. (Explicitly the games where I had to accept a EULA.) Is there an option to find out which of the games in my library are using the DRM and which are not? Is there a clear and concise notice on the Steam shop page that tells me it's DRM infested BEFORE I put it in the cart and try to check out? Does anyone know if the rules are different in the EURO region?

No... this is a major W, a minority of people knew that these were licences due to logistical questions of "how do we get access to our games if steam goes down". The answer over years was, we are buying a limited licence. Now even the Normies will be made aware of this and will pick and choose their purchases with care. More push will be made for preservation of games and the right to keep games through some form of media. We were in the minority, we will gain more people to the cause thanks to laws making the obvious no longer dubious.

If there are no means for you to purchase a physical copy then its not piracy if you get it another way.

pc is the only one with this issue. xbox and ps you can go buy a actual disk for those games. i say we do something and have these companies send us pc gamers actual physical disk for shit we buy. lol and im sure if if u have a physical disk and xbox for 75 years you got your moneys worth. nothing you buy lasts forever.

the problem with priated/cracked games is that you open yourself up to be infected by viruses so you need another system to play those games on that if you don't care about this or use virtual machines

Game development are getting cheaper day by day because of evolving tools. A big portion of the game budget are getting used for the marketing in AAA industry. That's why indie studio are growing in these days because most indie studio put there money and effort on the game development instead of marketing.

You've never owned a game, a cd is just a different format, it's always been purchasing a license for a product.

This has been known since steam launched. They just pull content from your library so rarely, and provide such a great suite of services, that nobody cared because steam is not going away anytime soon.

Yep, at the start I think steam was game ownership not licensing and they changed the terms later or there was a controversy at some point where they clarified that they would refund you or something if your games are removed or something. Still, got a GOG account, just need gog galaxy to have linux support.

imagine you buy r6. then you need to sub to playstation plus to play it. after that you need to buy the ops because they don’t all come unlocked. so you put hundreds into the game buying battle passes, skins, packs, etc all for them to eventually close the servers at a later date. micro transactions and subscriptions ruined the gaming scene
