Mostly I keep a list of favorites here.
Shenandoah (W&L Chamber Singers)
Shenandoah
arr. James Erb
The Washington and Lee University
Chamber Singers
Dr. Gordon P. Spice, Director
Spring 2004
The photograph of the College's stately colonnade is my own.
LYRICS:
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
And hear your rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
Away, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
I long to see your smiling valley
And hear your rolling river
I long to see your smiling valley
Away, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
'Tis seven long years since last I've seen you
And hear your rolling river
'Tis seven long years since last I've seen you
Away, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
And hear your rolling river
Oh, Shenando...

To fully appreciate, one must hear the W&L Chamber Singers sing this in the historic Lee Chapel with its perfect acoustics. Lexington, VA, in the Shenandoah Valley, is the home of both Washington & Lee University as well as VMI. This lends special significance.
A great arrangement. Of course this is a great tune when song by out of tune drunken sailors, too.
Beautiful arrangement, such fine voices. I got here after hearing this sung on house of cards, episode 8. If not my very favorite, yours is easily in my top two or few. Merry Christmas
Thanks for the comment! This is my favorite rendition of "Shenandoah." I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Mine is one of the voices. Deepest thanks for the compliment.
