We Don't Retire,We Ascend

Creating a community of Black and Brown women coming of "ageless" at 60, rediscovering and reimplementing our dreams, goals, and aspirations in retirement. I am Sibongile, and I created this channel about two weeks before I retired after a lifetime (about 45 years) of being in the workforce. Now, I am pursuing my lifelong goal of becoming a novelist and published author. I want to inspire Black and Brown women to explore their fullest potential, achieve self-actualization, peace, and happiness for themselves. To retire means to retreat or withdraw; but we have no intentions of doing any of that. After retiring from the workforce, we will aspire to even higher heights for ourselves. We will not retreat. We shall Rise!

Hey hey sister
Yes! Looking forward to this
@@handdeeabroad Thank you! Appreciate your support 🫶🏾
Great idea!
Nice walk in Maraval, great seeing the Land
Thank you! 😊
Thanks for this topic. Aging is scary for many reason however the best remedy is to develop loving honest relationships with others. It’s never too late to come into the community with others or develop a community. I agree that having children doesn’t guarantee they will be there to care for you. I’m a rehabilitation therapist in a long-term care facility and see it many times. Great advice to prepare.
Absolutely! There is a resurgence of Black women learning to make friends again as we age; meeting other women who share the same values and interests. There's also channels and groups popping up around the idea of co-living and shared spaces 🤗
Thanks for commenting!
Truth be told some of the people who have children can't depend on them either.
@@R4a6 Speak on it! 😆
I, too, was pulled into the 'get out of the US,' videos. Honestly, I like them. I think it's great that people are living their best life abroad. Im inspured to live my best life here for now. I'm 66 and not sure if that my course yet. I appreciate the movement abroad movement for motivating me to examine my life and get serious about traveling. I love your calm and clear message. Good video.
Indeed! @CheriG870 It's because of them that I started this channel! So yes, they are motivators for sure.
I am looking forward to joining you
Love this video. I was born and still live in the Caribbean and has never been to the USA. Yes I have been following and watching a lot of these move abroad videos consistently. But what always is a disappointment for me, they donot talk about the privileges experience of being an American in foreign countries. They also don't talk about how they treat and behave to locals as an American. They also will not renounce their citizenship to the USA because more time than none, they can always jump on a plane and go home with ease and still have immediate accessibility to whatever the USA offer vs someone who decides to move to the USA and is trying to get settle in the system. Wonderful video.
Thank you @vivveene for watching and commenting... much appreciated. I'm not an expat, although that's an experience I'm hoping to have one day. But I think I speak for many African American expats when I say that, trust, we understand the value in holding an American passport, and the privileges it may provide. But those privileges have been paid for with the blood and sweat of our ancestors...a debt which we continue to pay interest on through institutionalized racist policies... but already, I've said tool much 😏
...also, I'm not knocking travel or living abroad. It's just that, some of us watch these videos thinking that somehow our lives will be better if we can "just get out of the U.S." when really, our lives can be beautiful where we are once we shift our perspectives.
@@WeDontRetireWeAscend_ : No, no. I am not saying you are knocking it. Infact I love how you show both sides of the coins. But living in the Caribbean and working in Customer Support, I speak from experience, also I do follow some RUclipsrs for years and one of the things I noticed after influencing others to get out and why it's best to get out, they return home (USA) and spend time easy peezy and still has accessibility to benefits easy peezy, so I was thinking it would be nice if they show both sides of the coins too instead of being a hypocrite about it.
@@vivveene Understood. Again, thank you 😍

Thank you for this message. I click”not interested.” I enjoy watching people move abroad, but I’m annoyed with the get out of the US videos. I agree, I will be good, no matter who’s in office. My cost of living is lower than many who have moved abroad. I am good!😊
Yes! 🤗Thank you for watching!
Good video Sibongile. Thanks for sharing. I am 6 mo. ascended, married 43 years, content, and happy on purpose. Whether here or abroad, there will be life issues to deal with. At this stage in my life, I'm keeping it as simple and peaceful as possible. Things outta my control are in God's hands.🕊

Unfortunately my Grandmother worked until she aged out from a Govt job. Her 2nd husband died, & she drank to soothe her heart & deal w/ my aunt who suffered from mental illness. Looking back I would have liked to have known her as a woman.
@@edithdonaldson9483 Many of our elders had similar experiences.
She transitioned 5 yrs due to COPD, from exposer to 2nd hand smoke as a child & in the offices from back in the day. She really did show us how to live. It was hard for me to retire bc I was caught up in it. I could hear her voice saying, “when you gonna retire”?
@@edithdonaldson9483 That's beautiful, Sis. They really do speak to us ❤️
She practiced Buddhism since she was 37, which helped her to rise above a normal life. When she retired she traveled, continued to learn, her friends were dear to her and they did stuff together.

Hey Sibongile👋🏾. I continuously watch and I support the Blaxit movement. Meanwhile, I celebrate my own one-year retirement, my continual strive for total financial freedom/life’s simple comforts, and like you, I am still focused on obtaining those finances/resources for which I am eligible. My goal is to be in a sustainable financial position in order to be a blessing to others in need and to support grass roots struggles for our continuous political struggles/freedoms. Many blessings to you and your family as we watch this election year unfold.🤗🌹

Hi Sibongile. I haven't experienced any slumps or blahs as of yet. I am six months into my ascension and am still very content as I'm doing what I want as I plan for what I want to do next. I get my rest, and I spend time with God daily. I've done a little traveling, am planning more in the future, I read when I want, spend time with hubby, family and grandkids, am working on improving my health, enjoy my plants and flowers and am looking into learning new things. I also care-give for a disabled sister. I feel like I'm still exhaling from all those years of work. I absolutely love my alone time! I am practicing being intentional about enjoyment and purpose in every day God allows me to live, because I am aware that tomorrow is not promised to any of us. I'm thinking your feelings are temporary. Thanks for all that you share. Keep Ascending Sis, and God Bless. 😊
Oh, this sounds so wonderful! 🤗 And kudos to you for being a caregiver to your sister...I know that she loves and appreciates all that you do. Yes, the blahs have passed as I am currently pursuing opportunities as a background actor 🎬📽️ Check out my latest live reel on IG! And as always, thanks for commenting ☺️

No, Sis! You're not the only one 🤗
I am not retired yet, although I would love to be retired (to ascend🙂) right now. I am all for meditation every morning before starting my day. It is great to hear your experience xxx
Yes, I am still navigating these retirement streets. Thanks for commenting! 😘

Thank you Dr.! I appreciate you 🤗
Great channel. My first year of 'ascension' (2023) was a whirlwind. I packed up my life in my former home, transitioned out of the country, buried a parent, proposed my doctoral study, said 'peace out' to friends and family. I am now settling into my new life in Johannesburg and I really love it. I'm relaxed, productive, unbothered....
Wow! Now that was a lot! But what a pay off! Thanks for commenting! 🤗
Hey Sibongile👋🏾. Nice content! I ascended, as well, (8 months ago) but I still feel burned out. I am taking baby steps right now to deciding next steps…why rush…I’ve got the rest of my life.🤷🏾 Best wishes for a favorable completion to your bathroom modeling project.🌹
Yes! I think I'm still feeling like I'm on a hamster wheel...a wheel of my own making🤦🏾♀️ But we gon' be alright! 💃🏾 Thanks for listening!
Around minute 13:00, it sounds like you're referring to Integrative and Functional Medicine specialists who specialize in finding the root cause of diseases and symptoms, often by addressing gut health, offering supplements, treating sleep and stress, providing longer visits, and concierge services which are typically not covered by insurance. Most people who delve into Integrative Med, have tried standard medicine without satisfactory results either through diagnosis and treatment, rapport, or both. You can find a local specialists via Google or by referral. We have an upcoming episode with Dr. Lataya De Jesus, a Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner, who founded Eden Health Restored and who has a RUclips channel by the same name.

I’m changing PCP but it’s taking 4 months to get that 1st new patient appointment. I’m curious if this new practice will be more thorough and understanding of my needs as a black woman by switching to a black female PCP. 🙏🏾🤞🏾I hope so.
I hope that you find the physician that's right for you 🙏🏾 We deserve proper, quality, and compassionate care. Thanks for commenting 🤗
Thanks Sibongilie, and I hope you get the care and feedback you really deserve and are seeking. Wishing you the best, Avalyn
Hey👋🏾…great music…delicious-looking food…nice video!👍🏾
Thanks! 🤗
Sis, you are NOT alone in this! I left a black male primary doctor because the wait in his office was entirely too long, and the care wasn't that great; mostly prescribing meds for every little thing. I spent more time in his waiting room than he spent in the exam room with me. I tried a black female primary doctor and discontinued because she was a little hurried and curt, and not a cooperative listener. Just because a doctor is black doesn't mean the care is gonna be up to par. I saw a black female surgeon, and she was wonderful with a caring attitude, and sent me for a type of physical therapy I had never heard of, and it worked! No surgery needed. For primary care, I now see a NP who does not happen to be black. She listens intently, explains thoroughly, and gives me chances for lifestyle changes, and suggestions to try other methods before prescribing meds. I'm encouraged that I may not have to be on meds lifelong if I am successful in losing weight and exercising. This is a motivator for me to continue improving my health. Finding a good doctor can be H-A-R-D, time consuming and costly, because co-pays add up. Great Topic 😊
Yes! All of this! 👆And I appreciate the validation. My view is 'black doctor/white doctor... they all go to the same schools' 😒 Thanks for your input.
Unfortunately we are under a "sick care" system. I do have a black female NP and she is wonderful. I discuss alternative medicines and she openly talks with me about them. Yes we can be just a number being pushed through the system to be given a prescription and sent on our way. I also found a womens health center and they too were a better option than just going to the regular doctors office. We have to be proactive with our treatment and accept nothing less than cooperative care for the longevity of our lives. May the Lord direct you to the right physician.
Thank you so much for listening. Indeed, we must be proactive.
I had and observed others receive the worst healthcare ever in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2018. I was in a near death automobile accident that required me to stay there for treatment. Thank God medical professionals in my personal circle out of state could advise me on how to advocate first myself!!
Advocates are important! This is especially important for Black women who may be agining without family. Thank you for commenting.
This is such an important topic!! Thanks for sharing
