57:19 , eastbound , stopping for beans . Not for a meet . After this photo was taken , the crew left and I climbed up and turned on the headlight for a shot , turned it back off and waited for them to continue east.. Great chase , great memories. These crews were the best.
Do not buy anything off of their website site!! They will not ship nor will they reply to messages!!
Would it be possible for me to get copy of Otis station and tower and CNW round house I'm working on the history of otis
The Chicago Central! Neat stuff from the 80s.
Very nice video very informative lot of history gone sad to see thanks brings back memories
Enjoyable and nostalgic look back.
Why wasn’t the Wabash railroad mentioned nor included?
Thank you so much for all your effort! I love the old Milwaukee Road in Iowa, especially the inner lines which are almost all gone now. Great memories!
Great slides, any way I can get scans of the Melbourne ones?
I rode the Bicentennial Rocket. One of those heads sticking out of the vestibule is probably mine.
This was very interesting as I live next to the Cedar Rapids-Manchester line in Northeast Cedar Rapids. It's mostly CN locos now, but I have been fortunate enough to see a few BNSF locos and one train lead by Norfolk and Southern Locos.
Iam from central Il . Love these shots. My son will really like the Bloomer stuff as he spent the first years of his life in Mansfield IL on the former Wabash and considers that to be his hometown RR. Love these slide shows. Mabe, someday I will get my photos together and do one.
What great photography. Thanks for sharing.
Hi great stuff
I remember John and Russ Lyon from the Train Order publication I was a subscriber from 1994 till 2006 out of Marion Ohio.
Conrail unit looks like a SDP45 (with steam generator aft of radiators)
Those Mon. Super 7s ran on former WP F unit trade in trucks. Those trucks actually were under WP U23Bs first, then under the 7s. I shot those 7s in service on the Monongahela way back when.
You missed one here,,,a significant loco. At 26:00. CR SD 45 - 2. 11-22-73 in Winham , OHIO some kids threw a switch,,derailed an EL train even killed a crew member. two EL SDP 45s were involved. Both were rebuilt as SD45-2s. HOWEVER they retained their old fuel tanks. 6688 is one of those locos. I would see one of them as pure EL just a few days after CR. (EL ordered their SD45-2s with unusually huge tanks, not the standard tanks shown here)
Nice video
How did CSX get the RF&P? Originally I know there were seven owners of which four were ACL, SAL, C&O, B&O - CSX predecessors, but what incentive did the PRR successor (PC?, CR?), SOU and the State of VA have to sell RF&P and reduce competition? Wouldn't SOU (maybe NS by then) or CR have to lose by losing friendly connections? Or was majority owner CSX just permitted to overrule the rest of the owners? Was the ICC still around at that point? Most of all, what year did the acquisition take place and what was the state of the SOU and PRR successors?
The third line crossing at OHIO City was the former NYC.....Cincinnati Northern line. I too am from OHIO and started photoing in 1976. Mostly south-central OHIO. Speaking of Upper Sandusky,,,my 6th great grandfather and two 5th great grandfathers fought at the battle of Upper Sandusky during the revolution,,,1782. All three survived the battle. The battle site was not far from the stone quarry at Carey. I have some nice shots of a CR stone train there in 1987.
Nice video!
Great show Keith!
Really nice presentation! Thanks!

Hi Mike. Thanks for your kind words. -Darren
❤ LONG ISLAND , NY
The shot at 8:50 remind me of CR. There shall never be another event like early CR. I miss those days. I started photoing in March 1976, just days before CR day. LV has a special place for me. My GG Grandmother was a Cornell. (As in Cornell University) LV paint is "Cornell" red.
Used to see the STL&H SD40S in Detroit a lot on CP/SOO run throughs
Letting you know there is a problem... A lot of pics you talk about are not showing up, for example: City of Sleepy Eye at 39:38 Soo line geep with two flats for John Deere at 52:42 Tarpped loads at 54:04 Rock Island cars at 58:22 And many more, don't have time to go through them all. Did this through the live stream and now the playback
It's not just you - it seems that in the 2nd half of the show, it's only showing every other image for me as well.
Glenville, MN was furthest point north on the IC, not Madison
At 29:40 the L&N loco is a former SCL RS11. These RS11s came to L&N in 1976 when the government was !@#$%^&*( at Family Lines about the lack of power on the L&N part of the system. The SCL handed over(dumped) to the L&N all it's ALCOs. RS11, C420, C430 and 6 axle Centuries. The late 70s was ALCO heaven on the L&N, especially east/northern Kentucky.
L&N C420s! I can relate to these. One of my all time favorites. Saw them many times. Also at 27:57 is 1335 former MONON, with the nose mounted bell. Always a treat to see those.
BTW I also shot C415s at Blue Island in 1978. Even saw a west bound leave the yard with 4 U33Bs. We were on the wrong side of the tracks. Sun angle was bad. I made it back in May of 1980 and everything was gone of course.
At 9:50. That yellow Gremlin! Day after thanksgiving, 1979 I was driving home. A yellow Gremlin runs a stop and T-Bones me on the wet road. I spin 180 degrees. Totals my MGB. They get out tossing beer cans. This happened in front of the church where 2 years later I would be married in. The marriage lasted 6 years 49 days. Was someone trying to tell me something?
Nice video!
The video hasn't even premiered yet. You've got a week to wait, bud.
Back in the early 1990s we went to Ill. to shoot all those red/silver war bonnets on the ATSF. We saw those GP60s often. 30 years has flown by.
great work! thank you!
these old photos...can be digitally corrected!
December 26, 1977 we caught a stopped CR train on the IHB. It had 3 F7s and an FP7. "Have you ever been up in one of these?" the crew asked. Of course not. Which for a CR/PC F7 I was telling the truth. so up we went. They even took us back to the crossing! They gave us some paperwork. It seems it was a transfer from CNW-Wood to Elkhart. I had heard of Proviso, but Wood yard was new to me. 45 years ago. someone is getting old.
Wow,,,at 38:00 to the left is a "thing." Being photoed in 1973,,,,this was right at the time when it was first introduced into the US market! BTW, back in 2001, I was able to ride at the local lake inside the things cousin the Schwimmerwagon. An amphibious WW2 German vehicle.
I was in Rawlins 15 years ago. Even then a resident called the town,,,"Meth City."
OUTSTANDING...I seen one of the first CBBIs to Chicago back in 1985...never thought I would see BIG POWER on a regional, besides 513 and 516. Seen only 303 once leading BICB back to Iowa. CSX SUB LEASED MP95 TO BUREAU AND THE PEORIA TRACK JAN 2006.
CR ran a through train with TPW. LOPI(Logansport-Pittsburgh) and PILO. Later it was shortened to Columbus. LOCO/COLO. This was after CR reduced the Panhandle route to near nothing. I was able to catch 600 in the yard at Buckeye once. At Urbana we caught an eastbound TPW run through with two brand new TPW GP38-2s.
In 1983 we wanted to photo the TPW before it's demise. Which occurred just 5 months later. Chasing trains for almost a week from Iowa to the lift in Ind. Went through a couple rolls of Kodachrome. Good times.
Where are the Iowa Traction videos? Seeing 100-year-old electric freight trolleys in action is super cool! It's amazing that they're still in use in the present day!
Nice video
Any slides and movie footage of the Milwaukee Road in central Iowa and even Montana, especially with the electrics, is priceless. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent video
Nice video!
