Solo with Rolo

Solo with Rolo - I am a solo caravanner with my rescue dog Rolo.
Although I have had a touring caravan in the past it was a long time ago and at the time I had a partner and he used to do all the setting up and 'technical stuff' and so when I bought my little touring caravan in August 2019 I considered myself a newbie to caravanning. Therefore my (our) videos are not 'tutorials' or 'how to' videos because I have not got the experience to be able to show anyone else how to do things.
Our Videos are aimed at those who want to 'go solo' and I wanted to show people that if I can do it - with my health restrictions - then perhaps they can do it also. I also want to show people that it is ok not to be perfect - things do go wrong.
We aim to find dog friendly sites that have walks directly from the site or very close by. That is because Rolo has separation anxiety and can not be left alone for more than a few minutes - that it is possible to 'adapt' and not leave your dog alone.

Beach at Harlech - While staying at Min-Y-Don Holiday Park, Harlech, North Wales, UK
Solo with Rolo - While we were staying at Min-Y-Don Holiday Park, Harlech, North Wales, we had a short walk to the beach.
The holiday park is not far from the beach and Harlech Castle and in the perfect location for visiting both.
The beach is accessed via a path through the golf course, and over sand dunes. The beach is very clean and sandy, with great views of the mountains.

The steepest street? Harlech, North Wales UK, while staying at Min-Y-Don Holiday Park.

There is a debate about if this is the steepest road in the world. It is steep, and I am glad we walked down and not up, because I don't think I could have made it. If you are in Harlech, perhaps visiting Harlech Castle, it is well worth venturing down this street. Just tightly fasten your shoe laces first, otherwise your toes will slide to the end of your shoes. It is not advisable to take any...

Solo with Rolo - while staying at Min-Y-Don Holiday park, Harlech, North Wales, we had a day out to Harlech Castle. (15th October 2024) There are various ways to get to the castle, by taxi, by bus - which apparently takes you to the 'Chinese takeaway' near by, or there are various routes up via the road or other routes. If you wish to go by car and park on the Castle car park: Turn left out of ...

Solo with Rolo - While we were staying at Haven, Hafan Y Mor, Pwllheli, North Wales, we had a day out to Criccieth Castle. This is run by Cadw and at the time we visited (October 2024) the admission price was £7.50 for an adult and £7.00 for a senior. I thought this was a little expensive for the size of the castle, but I do appreciate that Cadw have to maintain it. While we were in Criccieth w...

We stayed at Hafan Y Mor, Pwllheli, North Wales, UK, in October 2024. This video shows some of the site. I have been to Hafan Y Mor in the past and a few things had changed. There were more take away food places and some changes around the access to the beach areas. For touring caravans and Motorhomes, the only issue I had was that you don't find out what time you are allowed to arrive at the s...

Solo with Rolo - We travelled to Hafan Y Mor, Pwllheli, North Wales on 7th October 2024. We stayed in our motorhome on the touring park (Summit park) at the site. Not much on the touring area had changed. You no longer get a 'site map' though - you have to 'down load' it ! On arrival you got allocated your pitch number and given an envelope with the 'door access codes for the shower rooms/ameni...

Nice place.
It is a really nice place, and easy to walk to the beach from 'Min-Y-Don' holiday park, or the car park near by. Lovely sand dunes for a picnic also. 🙂
Went here in August...Was brilliant.Loads to do..Clubs at night was really good.😊
I have not been into the club for years, because of being with my dog Rolo. There is loads to do there, and I love the location, for walking Rolo on the coastal path and the beach. 😊
Great. Love it.
Thank you.
Looks very interesting. Especially for young families and dog walkers.
Looks a nice tidy campsite. Useful to know if you are thinking of travelling there.
Perfect video this...I needed to know what it's like there before I take our tourer. Thanks
hi Lyn, just wondering if you know, are tents allowed on the field near to the canal? or is it just for tourers.
Hi, Yes, as far as I know. While I was there some tents were on the main (big) field - a couple near the trees and one ... at the end of the run of pitches (towards the canal) on the right as you look from the entrance gate. There were also a couple of tents in the small field near the facilities block but I think they were there because they had children with them and .... I suppose it was safer, having a sort of 'boundary' than being in the big field near the canal.
@Lyn Wright ah right, that's great thank you, im assuming it's a camping and caravan club site only?
I think it is. That is how I booked it. I am a member and when logged in, the contact details for the site come up. I think it is classed as a Camping and Caravanning Club 'Certified site'.
@@lynwright7705 ok, thanks again for the info lyn
Great video! another lovely local campsite to stay at 😁
I found it really relaxing and the owners are really friendly and helpful.
@@lynwright7705 absolutely, it's always more relaxing being close to water
Just heard this place is going to be used to house Illegal Immigrants soon.
I live in North Wales and I had heard that Pontins holiday camp in Prestatyn might house Immigrants but I have not heard anything about Haven Presthaven Sands doing so. I will watch out for news of it now though because I was considering returning for another short break there.
@@lynwright7705 They don't disclose anything, just ship them in with no regard for public safety in the area. They've been in the Hilton near Conwy for 9 months now. Nobody (even the government) knows who they are, are they dangerous, any convictions or what their intentions are. All I know is that there's daily videos of stabbings and contacting underage children for sex videos on Twitter.
This place is so different from when we came in the 80,s. The only thing that has not changed is the weather
It is surprising how much it has changed just from when I went in September 2021 to March 2022 and I think there are still plans for more changes. I think there is to be a 'beach cafe' somewhere in the future. Even in the last 10 years, since my sister has had a static caravan there, a lot has changed, the touring caravan area has moved, and there is a lot more activities around what used to be the 'Mash and Barrel'. It will be ... interesting... to see any future developments over the coming years.
I only ask as I'm taking daughter next week and it still looks to green. I'm a pessimist Lyn Haha. Hope it looks as great as that. Thanks for the route btw all the way. Appreciated. X
When I was there the ferns were just starting to turn orange/brown. I think with it being a bit later in the year the ferns will now be more brown, but most of the trees are evergreen so it will basically look the same but perhaps more colourful. The initial path can be muddy in places until you get to the Whitefield Road area and then the paths are better. I think also the squirrels will be on the ground more, looking for food, and they are easier to see as they dart across the path. I took some bird peanuts for them as the specialist 'squirrel food' seemed very expensive. If you go on the forestry england website you can print out a map or the various trails or I think they are available at the visitors centre. I got lost last year as some of the paths don't have 'posts' with arrows and I went down one of these thinking it was part of the route..... it took me 3 hours to find my way back lol. There are plenty of routes you can do and circular routes combining different trails. I hope you have a great time, it is lovely there and even at busy times there are peaceful places to escape to.
@@lynwright7705 lyn thank you very much for the time you took to write that. Very insightful and very much appreciated. Do you if we can camp at all?
At Delamere Camping and Caravanning Club site they cater for tents, campervans, motorhomes, caravans and trailer tents and the site is open all year round. I don't think 'wild camping' is allowed in the actual forest and to be honest, I would not think it is recommended as it is pitch black at night and quite spooky. lol
@@lynwright7705 thanks Lyn, I'll look up the camping site, defo correct when you say spooky, maybe on my own but not with daughter. I'll subscribe now. Thanks again, very much appreciated x
Lyn was that 3 three ago lovely?
I was at Delamere from 20th September to 1st October this year. That is when I filmed this. Last year I went around the end of October to 6th November.
As someone who lived and worked here for 8 years, and someone who lived in those chalets, I will never forgive Bourne Leisure for taking my spacious flat away. Those building were "sinking" they said. The fact that they wanted to put a new caravan pitch there next season was a coincidence I suppose...
I never really knew what those chalets had been used for, I had assumed they were holiday lets, I didn't realise that staff lived in them. Where do the staff live now they have gone? It was also sad to see the field has gone, I was told that some outdoor events were held their occasionally. On previous visits I had also used the small car park to access the beach and coastal path - but the car park has also gone. I felt there was a definite lack of car parking for those wanting to access the beach and a definite lack of pavements on the route to the beach, causing people with children and pushchairs to have to walk in the road. i suppose this could change as the development moves forward (hopefully)? I nearly didn't post the video because I didn't want to come across as 'negative' but .... I felt it was a record of the changes so that people who have not been for a while would see this change. While I was there, I felt like there was just too much going on, too many things changing at once and too many lorries and dumper trucks zipping around. I suppose it will quieten down once it gets finished but.... I liked it the way it used to be personally.
Family A ventu Golf 😂😂
After I did this video, while I was still there, they did repair the sign but with letters that were not the same colour lol. So it still looked strange.
Great, friendly campsite with a nice café in the station next door. Well worth a visit to the Anderton Boat lift while you are in the area
It is great, I have been twice now. I like the gate into the forest. The site is always quite quiet too. Very relaxing.
Did this belong to butlins
Yes. It originally opened in 1947 and was called 'Butlins Pwllheli' and later in 1990 was renamed 'Starcoast world'. There is more information on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butlin%27s_Pwllheli
At least all the other chalets haven’t been demolished!
The music is quite upsetting tho. What was all that big pile of rubble on the construction site?
The big pile of rubble on the first construction site, when I was driving past, was the remains of the old Chalet block. There was a type of digger there with a ... long spike instead of a bucket and it was breaking up the rubble. As for the music, I always struggle to find music that is the right length for the video and the right 'type' - I only use what is available on RUclips so the choice is limited. However, I did feel a bit sad at the changes, because when I had previously stayed at Hafan Y Mor, there had been a field and a small parking area (near the first construction site) where I had parked to take the dog onto the beach - it is quite a walk from the touring caravan part of the site so I had driven and parked. I felt quite sad that this small parking area was no longer there, especially as the small car park near the Pizza deck area was always full and there were very limited options elsewhere. I was glad to see that only a section of the Chalets had been demolished and quite a few remained however, I have heard that there might be a 'beach cafe' being constructed at some point but I am not sure where that would be.
Went there 72 and 75 when it was Butlins , looks soulless now to how I remember it , almost apocalyptic.
To me it just seems to be getting too big, especially for the 'facilities' that are there. The club, swimming pool and restaurant etc. don't seem big enough to accommodate the number of caravans and chalets that are there. Some areas of static caravans seemed to resemble a 'car park' for caravans (to me), just rows and rows of caravans.
Too slow, I'm bored
Thank you for your feed back. I agree it is slow. I am new to this and appreciate your feed back but I have to admit I did feel the same. I am going to try to address this in future videos and will bare it in mind but without going to the opposite extreme of spinning around and not giving people time to see things. I do have limitations also as i am disabled and have my dog with me while videoing - this will limit what i can do, the speed of it and editing different days filming to make it seem as though it was all on the same day. Often i have to stop walking due to pain or being breathless. In time, and with more experience with editing, I hope to edit some of the 'stopping' out. Thank you again for you feed back.
I went to Hafan y Mor twice on holiday
I have been twice now - September 2021 and March 2022 - there were a lot of changes just in that short time.
@@lynwright7705 I’m not from Wales and I’ve never lived there, so to get to a different country for a while was nice
A new era has dawned gone are the days of redcoats and chalets now caravans and funstars are incharge
I think the Chalets had a longer life span than a caravan does. For the price of Caravans I think they deteriorate a lot quicker. In some ways I think it reflects todays society - disposable products and constant change. I am not sure how the younger generation can get 'attached' to a place when it keeps changing. Don't get me wrong... some change is good but, too much can damage a feeling of familiarity, peace and security.
@@lynwright7705 chalets do have a longer life span because some of butlins chalets are 70 to 60 years old
Take that's where caravans will be going now ? It's great to see all the new things they have done since I was last here 8 years ago but I loved the chalets right dwn the stayed in them alot .
It was a shock for me also. I was there in the September of 2021 and even in that short time there were a lot of changes. I would have preferred it if they had kept the small car park near the beach, it was used by a lot of less mobile people. My feelings are that parking on the Dragon Lakes side of the site is very limited for people coming over from the other side and the touring area.
Made me chuckle how you turned right at the beginning, only to turn left later on and cross the original road again 🤣
I have an excuse (maybe lol). There were 'safe approach' instructions for the site but my Sat Nav does not like certain roads, perhaps because I told it I was a lorry. So.... because of this I do end up 'going the pretty way' and not the 'logical way'. I have no sense of direction at all and am amazed that I arrive anywhere lol.
ahh splash....i used to be a lifeguard there
Wow, I bet that was a busy job, keeping an eye on everyone.... noisy too lol.
