Program Note:
DIRT focuses on the microscopic aspects of place and soil. This piece uses field recordings made underground, underwater, and on land around the central coast of California. The musical pitches, textures, and rhythms of the orchestra are derived from those recordings: the sounds of crickets, oysters, compost, and trees.
