Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you! I’m beginning to realize how important networking is and running ads for my services.
Networking has been the single most important thing I've done for my business. Happy to help!
Hey Scott, really enjoyed both the behind. the scenes film and the actual documentary. One quick question. How many days did you end up shooting in Iceland and how did you split the work managing the production and deciding where to go when? Were you in charge or did someone else help out with planning the time spent?
Thanks for watching. We were in Iceland for about 3 weeks. We had to really just follow the thread to known when to go where based on people's availability. Every night I would dump footage and backup so I could be ready to go again in the morning. I think we shot around 13 days of the 21 day trip. Myself and Mark Matthews did the majority of the planning with Bruno Long the photographer providing his perspective once we were out in the field.
I love coming back to watch this every now and again! Great memories Scott
Man haven't watched this one in a while. Super fun to relive this trip. What a blast!
Do you have any tips for making MTB short films? My friend and I are gonna make one this fall. I don’t have a cable cam, of course, but I have an A7iii with a little shotgun mic.
Hey, I'd just suggest watching the other videos on my channel. Lots of BTS content. Good luck!
@@ScottBell Thanks!
How do you get your slowmo audio to come out so clean?? I feel like mine is always unusable. Sick shot!
Nothing special, good quality shotgun mic I guess?
Hey. How did you attach it to the cage ?
I just put a nato rail on to clamp it to
@@ScottBell thank you so much
Thanks for the video! What monitor mount do you use?
Cheers, thanks for watching. It's a smallrig NATO evf mount
Thank you for these BTS videos! So so helpful!
Awesome to hear, thanks for watching!
Going Fulltime Was the best decision ever for me
Awesome, same here!
This is such a good tutorial ! Thank you so much !!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Can the zoom function be used in a standalone manner? Or does it only work if there is a focus motor and a zoom motor?
You can use them independently of one another.
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching!
Incredibly helpful, Scott. I appreciate you taking the time to explain how you use Milenote. I also find it very useful for larger projects and collaborating with clients and athletes. Continue to be awesome, cheers bud.
Thanks for watching Ryan, glad it was helpful! Absolutely love this software, cool to hear you are using it as well.
I've been using the free version of Milanote and have LOVED it so far. Something about it just makes videos easier to organize than Google Docs or something.
Yeah I tried the free version for a while and saw the value. As I started to add it into more productions I went full version really quick so I didn't feel limited in what I could put there. And I totally agree, the way you can organize things in the way your brain works really helps keep me in one platform for all my preproduction needs. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Can you please do a color grading breakdown video? Especially for your talking head.
So i can take several power banks on a palne as long as EACH does not exceed the 100 Wh, right?
Each battery is 142Wh so you'll have to check with your airline. Most will allow you to take 2 batteries over 100 Wh but it's up to the airport security agent.
One of the raddest short films I’ve seen. Holy cow dude, nice work! Getting my psyched to visit your neck of the woods next month. Cheers from Utah!
Cheers, thanks a lot for checking out my work!
HOW is that bike standing up all on it's own!? MAGIC AF!
hahah the magic of a special metal support :)
this channel is by far the best i founded in a long time! so helpful for people that have concerns about how to make a high quality video! thanks for this and more. keep it up!
Thanks a lot, glad to hear it's helpful! Appreciate you checking out what I'm making.
Я чомусь заздрю тим країнам які мають багато лісів
Hey, thank you to share this interesting content! also, how many hours do you invest in only editing 1 video?
Thanks for watching. Each video is it's own beast to edit. Some projects take a few days others take months.
Hey, few questions, how editors manage to have great raw mtb sound and not have the drone or cable camera sound? Also, what is the price range for this kind of service?
Hey, when I do drone shots or cable camera I will mount a microphone on the bike and record a separate take of the action with audio only. Prices to produce projects like this vary widely depending on the scale and scope from $5k-150k.
@@ScottBell Hey, thanks for the answer. I saw that while watching your videos on the film for Marine with Mark. It's a good idea, the illusion work well. Ok, 150k seems huge, but I guess is for filmmaking company that have big clients. Also, how many are you paid to make a film like the Marine one? (or if you prefer: what is the average cost for a mtb rider/company to create a short mtb film?) Thanks, your channel is very valuable, thanks for your videos!
@@Tibiscuit_OW2 The numbers I provided before are the rates I have charged for various projects.
@@ScottBell Oh okay my bad. Then we’ll play and good work! Indeed didn’t think the range was that wide
Hello, Scott - Thanks for the video and all the useful information! I'm just in the process to build a suitable shoulder rig around my C70 (preferrably with the nucleus nano II handgrip) and especially the start/stop function was an issue for me. I have just one question, if I may - When you mentioned the special cable in the video, you showed the packaging with a picture of a cable with two usb-c connectors. When I use your link, the Tilta homepage shows a cable with one usb-c connector and a 3,5mm jack on the other end, and now I'm confused :-) Maybe you can help me out? Thanks and best regards - Mike
Hey, thanks for watching. The link is in the video description to the cable I'm using from Tilta. You also need to make sure you update the firmware on the Nano ii. Hope that helps.
@@ScottBell Hi again, thanks for the quick answer! Sorry, still a little confused, your video and the link show different products. Long story short: Where does the cable connect on the C70? Does it go into the USB-C port, or the "remote" port?
@@Fotoschmied Ah I see why you are confused. There is no way for me to directly link to the USB-C version on their site, but click the USB-C option from the link and it will be the correct one as far as I know. USB-C to USB-C, not USB-C to remote. Hope that helps.
@@ScottBell Very helpful, you cured my confusion 😀 Of course this specific cable isn't available here in good old germany, so now I have to wait for the import... Anyway, thanks a lot! This will definitely make a difference for me. 👍
@@ScottBell I'm sorry to bother you again, but I'm stuck and seem to be completely lost. I finally managed to get the cable, it's connected to the motor, the motor is powered from a powerbank, the firmware of the handle is updated to the latest available version 1.23, but whatever I do, I cannot get start/stop working. Remote is enabled in the C70, it's working just fine on my DJI RS3 Pro, so I must have missed something absolutely simple and stupid, and I cannot figure it out. Also tried to connect the cable directly to the handle, this also doesn't do anything. I HOPE I just missed something...
Does the run/stop cable connect from the motor to the camera? If so, can you link it here?
tilta.com/shop/usb-c-run-stop-cable/?aff=Scott%40scottbellvisuals.com
Can this be charged with other USB power banks?
I would assume so
@@ScottBell The back ports seem to be AC, and DC only. No USB C. I been looking for a small 60000mAh power bank with an AC outlet that can be charged via USB C. So far, no luck.
@@musashi-san____1409 I charge it via a USB C plug every time. Granted it from a wall plugin but it's a USB C connection.
@@ScottBell Ok. Thank you so much.
Beautiful 😢
Thank you for watching :)
recently tried photographing nature with the same camera, now I know I'm doing something wrong and not the camera 😂
Haha thanks, keep at it, you'll get there!
I really like your video, it brought me various very useful information. However, I can’t find the XLR to mini XLR cable you use for your microphone. Could you tell me where you bought it? P.S. I subscribed to your channel that interests me.
Thanks for watching, glad to help. My cables are from Alvin's Cables.
Great video, learned so much! Quick question, if I have two Sennheiser G4 mics would it work to put each in a mini XLR input (one and two), and then the shotgun mic into the mic input to record on three (and four as a safety track)? guessing you don't do this because when you want to record two wireless mics you use the smaller rechargeable one you mentioned. Anyway, just curious thanks for taking the time to put this out, very helpful.
You could totally do that and actually have started doing that on some projects with the Deity Theos system.
Why does it record in 24fps and can it record in 60fps?
I'm not sure what device you are asking about.
For example, in the 5:30 minute shot, you record it at 24 fps. My question is: why do you record it at 24 and not 60?
@@bestchl I knew the entire piece was going to be played back at real time so there was no need to shoot higher frame rates for slow motion.
I understand, I thank you for your prompt response and congratulate you on your content. I'm amazed
I’m here in 2024 and this is one of the best, most honest and practical videos I’ve seen on freelance time management… thank you
Thanks for watching. Really glad you found this helpful!
Hello, looking to start filming mtb videography. Have a Sony a7iii with a 24 - 70mm lens. Was wondering how to shoot raw with good sound. Was thinking about buying something like the rode wireless pro and just strapping it to my bike. Would this work? And I am also looking to buy new lenses, what do you recommend?
Hey, that's awesome. The 25-70 is a great lens to start with. Might consider a 70-200 down the line. I have a video on my channel about shooting a raw mountain bike video that shows how I go about capturing some of the audio. A lot is just with my shotgun mic mounted on the camera though. You could potentially strap a rode wireless pro on the bike but you'd have to test it out, never tried it myself. Get it as close to the ground as you can to get good dirt sounds. Good luck!
La iba comprar, mejor me espero. Gracias!
Awesome!
Sick video, thank you for bringing us along!
Thanks a lot for watching!
very helpful video thank you so much!!
Cheers, thanks for watching. Glad it helped you out.
Thanks for this video! I have the same system and camera but can't get the run/stop cable to work. Tried all the "canon camera" settings in the Tilta hand unit but nothing works. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hey, thanks for watching. Are you using the run/stop cable that came with the Nano II or did you buy the one I have linked in the description? It will not work with the one that comes with the Nano II.
@@ScottBell thanks for the reply! I was using the cable you had linked but I got it to work by updating the Nucleus motor firmware.
@@eriksmith2271 Glad you solved it!
Good description and demonstration. Thanks. The rig I built , for a much lighter set up like GoPro, clothesline plastic pulleys work
Glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with your rig!
With the long lens shot with the auto focus switching to the foreground. I don’t know how it is with the C70, but usually Canon will offer subject tracking sensitivity adjustment, it won’t slow the focusing speed, but will work very well when something comes into the frame. I stumbled onto the video because the Rocky Talkies anyways… Great review and video!
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately AF in the C70 is pretty lack luster compared to the rest of Canon's stuff. It helps a bit but you just can't rely on it.
Dude Scott, killer Education your the man, thanks so much.
Happy to help. Thanks for watching!
This short narrative at the beginning...very nice! I need to "play" more each day with the gear I already have and push my skill set more.
Glad you enjoyed it. Had a great time playing a bit more.
The story really pulled me in. Very impressed!
Thanks so much for watching!
This is incredible, Scott! Absolutely love how you put this together. Amazing storytelling and so insightful to hear about the process. 🙌
Thanks so much. It was a challenging but really rewarding process by the end of it.
Great video bro. Quick question, where did you get that xlr cable from? I can’t seem to find it in the description.
Cheers, thanks for watching. The cable I use is from Alvin's cables, it's nice and compact.
I enjoyed watching this video you explained how it works now off the save up for it thanks
Cheers, thanks a lot for watching. Glad it was helpful!
This is so chilled! Can't beat a nice photo walk in the woods. Beautiful shots man!
Cheers, thanks a lot for watching!
Sooooo cool would love to have camera's like yours and the skills great video.
Thanks for checking it out. Definitely a fun little camera.
i love your perspective, it felt like a walk in the woods
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, really enjoying watching your videos right now, loads of inspiration, especially this cable cam! I’ve seen from your other videos that this setup has been adapted with a follow focus. I’m wanting to set up my own cable cam to film some MTB here in Scotland. In this video have you preset manual focus prior to the slide? Appreciate this is an older video, but still - sick!
Cheers, thanks for watching, glad it's getting you stoked up! Yup, preset focus, deep focal plane, and maintain a consistent distance from the rider and you don't need to have a follow focus. Good luck!
Scott…your Mom told me about this and I have to say it is stunning!!!! I can now see why you are so successful!!!!
Nice to hear from you Laurie, glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the kind words :)
