Sinus Surgery advice from a sinus surgery patient in recovery!
Просмотров 9 тыс.8 лет назад
Are you having or had sinus surgery? If so, then take a few minutes to watch my brief overview of what to expect when washing the sinus cavities post-op. Your Doc will give you advice, but I found it a little lacking on the practical side, so give it a watch and ask some questions in the comment box below and I'll do my best to get to them if they are relevant. Also, expect to have a dry mouth ...

    Disconnect red wire. I wait 30 seconds or so, reconnect. Beep stops, low battery light goes out. In six or seven weeks, alarm sounds again. Repeat. I am on 20th cycle - no adverse effects. Still 40 something days before repeat.

    Do you want to know a fun fact? Take the battery off the wires, wait a couple seconds and then plug it back in. It will stop beeping for over a month. I am almost certain they have implemented something that makes it beep to have people replace it when they dont need to. We tested the battery and It is completely fine. Have a good day.

    The battery costs only $28 at Bunnings. But, like the man said, unless you need a power backup there’s no need to replace the battery. Just disable the alarm.

    Seems like such a scam. 90% of people don't need it. including us at our house, been putting up with this damn noise for a year pressing the snooze button every day. A forum said to hold down the alarm silence button for 20-30 seconds. it beeps once. wait another 10 seconds it will beep again and the yellow light will turn on. then apparently you can just leave it and it makes no noise. I've just done that so crossing fingers. I think Malcolm Turnbull must have Friends at EnerSys. Smart buggers. Thanks for the vid

    • @ant_picard
      @ant_picard 5 лет назад

      It's a backup battery to keep your NBN up and running in the event of a power outage in your property. If you have emergency devices that always need connectivity or you have a phone that needs the NBN to work, the battery will keep you connected when the power is out. Disconnecting the battery will simply leave you without NBN if your mains power goes out.

    • @brianvogt8125
      @brianvogt8125 5 лет назад

      If you use the NBN battery backup, bear in mind that your attached devices (e.g. internet router) will also need to run from a battery during a power failure. Most people (probably everybody) use a mains powered battery charger to run the router.

    About 9 days ago I went through FESS surgery which involved making better openings to both of my maxillary sinuses, as well as draining and cleaning them both out as they were badly infected. The procedure went well and the recovery is ok. I saw my surgeon last Thursday and he examined me and suggested that I increase the flow rate on my Sinus irrigation device (I have a mains powered one) as there is crusting building up and that I need to keep the fluids moving around there to keep that crusting reduced. But by doing that I have found that over the last couple of days I am getting the odd blob of darkened type of blood and mucous combined, even some crusting etc from the other nostril. More than what you have shown in your great video. It doesn't bleed at all during the day, it is just when using the irrigation that these blood type clots with mucous are noticed. Did you note this at all....? As you have mentioned it is the after care and practical side of dealing with the surgery that seems a little lacking. Hope that your sinus issues have improved since you last posted this video and many thanks for doing so.

    • @PMe-my1td
      @PMe-my1td 6 лет назад

      Mine are great thanks :-) Yes, it takes a fair while to get all the crusty blood etc out of the nose. Thats why its important to keep regular flushing practice. You; be surprised what is lodged there and doesnt come out for ages!

    • @Vimes.
      @Vimes. 6 лет назад

      Paulie Me I'm not sure why irrigation wasn't promoted more than it was, as it seems to be very important in helping a successful recovery. It is only that I have been used to irrigating from all my sinus issues that I had been aware of it. It wasn't so much of a surprise initially at what came out, without going into the detail, it was kinda shocking...! Thankfully with your video, and another one posted around 9 years ago (kinda graphic) which then assured me what I was seeing was normal and not jellified brain material ;) Great that you have improved since the surgery.

    I've never been able to breathe properly through my nose. About 30 years ago an ENT Dr. told me my septum "twisted and turned" and I'd never be able to breathe well through my nose without surgery. He then proceeded to describe the surgery in gruesome detail and I declined. Recently I've had some issues with my ears and went to an ENT practice. When I told the P.A. about my nose issues, she sent me for a CT scan. (The Dr. from 30 years ago only looked up my nostrils with that lighted instrument.) She also said this surgery was "pretty rough" years ago but has really improved. Surgeon said CT scan showed that my septum was pushed over to one side and I also need the endoscopic sinus surgery; now I can't recall the reason but I've "sniffled and snuffed" my way through life so they're probably inflamed or something. After seeing this video I'm a bit scared.

I'm not getting a lot of blood out anymore but feel so congested. I do the rinse 3+ times a day. Any idea regarding why I'm swollen after a month and constantly feel congested. Most people have a deviated septum---but it may or may not be the cause of your breathing problems. Any doctor will tell you that all surgeries carry risks---IF you ask them. For that reason, you should try EVERYTHING else before allowing yourself to go under the knife. And you should never have your turbinates operated on. Your turbinates are VERY important to the function of breathing, they are not useless pieces of meat that just get in the way. You need them. Look it up for yourself. Cutting them could cause Empty Nose Syndrome, which is a very terrible condition.

    I'm making my shopping list for the supplies I'll be needing. Does the hospital or doctor send you home with bandages or should I purchase them on my own? ~ I was granted the time off from work, 9 days total. I'll be on restrictions for two weeks so no heavy lifting, bending or stretching. This should prove to be interesting as all those things are so common in my day to day! ~ Glad to hear the bump on your nose didn't cause you too much distress as it did immediately following your surgery! :)

    • @PMe-my1td
      @PMe-my1td 8 лет назад

      They will give you a couple bandages most likely. but I found that u use them when sleeping for the first handful of days (or if ur nose is bleeding constantly). But for the most part just stock up on tissue's or use TP. you will maybe spit alot, and you will be doing the washes alot.... You will be fine, just follow doc's orders, and yes, depending on how much work happens in there, you maly be fine to go back to work?? I found that bending over is the worst thing for the first couple weeks.... Take care!

    • @yvonnew5186
      @yvonnew5186 8 лет назад

      LOL, well I've been well stocked on tissues since this sinus thing began back in May. My linen closet looked like the shelf of a small grocery store. I will possibly look into bandages today then, or try and sweet talk the hospital into donating a couple more as they send me off back home! ~ So yes, it sounds like work is going to be real tricky with no bending etc. They are going to be so frustrated with me by the time this is all over. ~ I'm not going through this for my own personal joy though. I just want to feel better. I hope they will understand! Thanks again. One day and counting!

      I was in surgery for about an hour and a half my husband said. Afterwards my doctor was very quick, in and out. All he said to me was, "We left your septum alone. It wasn't severe enough. We found a fungus while in there. You may need to find a new profession kid"! All while I was waking from the anesthesia. lol. ~ To my knowledge they were just really in there cleaning and draining. I have my first follow up appointment on Monday (2 days from now) so I'll get a better explanation of what was done then. ~ Last year they found Aspergillosis (fungus/mold) in my lungs. I work in a greenhouse environment which is why my doctor said I may need to find another profession. He's probably right.

    Hi, I'm scheduled to have sinus surgery in about a week. I've been watching some recovery videos to understand what I should expect. Thanks for suggesting the vitamins etc. at the end as I hadn't really taken the time to consider that. How are you feeling now?

    • @PMe-my1td
      @PMe-my1td 8 лет назад

      I am feeling good now. Most of the pain is gone as well as the sensitivity. so it seems on schedule, which seems on par with about 3 months for recovery. I still use a nasal wash but maybe once a day or sometimes every other day :-) I hope all goes well for you!..... oh another good vitamin to take is called "DNA Force". I found that it helps alot with the healing, although I took it about 2 months after surgery! Doh.... so depending on where you live, go to Infowarslife.com and get it there and take after your surgery! (I only take two at night). If you have any questions, feel free to ask me :-)

    • @yvonnew5186
      @yvonnew5186 8 лет назад

      Oh, well that sounds good! 3 months though huh? Eeek! I have a pretty high threshold for pain though so I should be ok. Yep, one week from today. I had the appointment with the doctor this morning explaining in detail more of the surgery as well as any risks. She told me today that I would most likely be on a nasal steroid the rest of my life! I was like, "Whoa"! I'm not too excited about that. Feeling a tad nervous. =/

    • @PMe-my1td
      @PMe-my1td 8 лет назад

      Yeah, thats what my doc said as well. I find that doing the nasal wash helps, even though you taper off to only one wash every few days or even a week. Depending on what your issue is and your allergies are, you will pick up on your situation and apply a wash or something like nasonex or pulmacort.... however, if your working in dry environments like an airplane cabin, you should spray a sesame seed oil based spray to keep the moisture in there. other than that, dont freak out so much, its painful, but I think with the dna force and the nasal washes etc you will recover a bit quicker. I got knocked on the nose a little yesterday during some training, and my nose didnt bleed, it wasnt very painful as such, but a little sensitive..... so a good sign. Everyone is different so you will find some little obscurity with the aftermath of the procedure but thats the risk you take really. nothing too dramatic. Best of luck!
