    Thanks for this. The point that resonated: asking if the reveals are for the discovery writer to help them understand or learn more about the story they're writing. I combine a mixture of plotting and discovery and have definitely 'worked out the story' during the reveals! Love the Character First approach.

    I am writing about actual historical events. Can I plot a literal timeline of events that I can then use to plot my novel? When I can see what happens where and with whom, I can see how the subplots fall within the timeline. Thank you.

      @Plottr Месяц назад

      Hi there, you sure can 🙂 The timeline tool is very flexible as you can name your plotlines and story unit columns anything you like. So for example, you could name each story unit heading by day, month, year, or some combination of the above. Let us know if you have any other questions!

    I have to agree with some of the other comments in this thread. I deliberately downloaded the trial because I thought Plottr would provide the solution for managing books within a series. I followed your video but was sorely disappointed when I realised that the rollup to the series timeline was created entirely manually. I think your methodology is excellent. re creating the series arc first and then adapting your book arcs to fit within the greater series arc. However, as there is no direct linkage between the two views, the idea of having to duplicate data between the two views with no linkages is making me reconsider further evaluation of plottr. Particularly disappointing is the fact that comments pointing out this shortcoming in plottr are now over 2 years old. I would have thought it would have been an obvious feature to implement . The fact that it hasn't been indicates to me that management and development of a series of books functionality is not really high on on your developers priorities. Best solution I've found so far .. but as a result of a 15 minute play, falls well short of what i'm willing to pay for.

    • @Plottr
      @Plottr Месяц назад

      Thank you for your honest feedback. This is an older video, there are several features introduced since that will help you migrate data between books in series view. Plottr into Plottr import lets you save a Plottr project and import it into another Plottr file, choosing what to import. That way, you could (for example) create plotlines for a single entry in your series, save the project, and import that into a broader series project file. You can also save your own custom templates, so you could save the scene cards of one book as a custom template from the timeline, then use that template when creating another book in the series, importing that data quickly. Character data is shared across the whole series n Plottr, and you can tag characters with which title they appear in as well. If you have any more specific feature requests and suggestions, please share them with our support team on plottr.com/support. Thank you!

      @@Plottr Thank you for taking the time to reply. I didn't know about the import a plottr file into a plottr file. I hate to admit to this, but my story comes to me in vivid scenes. This part is normal for a pantser. But the scenes come to me not in a series. I wish they did. No, they just drop into consciousness beginning middle end completely out of order For a long time I’m trying to figure out what the story is about. Suddenly I do. Are there other writers that write non-serially then stuck with pulling it altogether?

    • @Plottr
      @Plottr Месяц назад

      There's nothing wrong with that, Joe. You might find dropping those scene ideas into scene cards in Plottr, then having a story structure template on another plotline and moving them around to see where they work with the structure could be interesting. That could help you find a sequence that works for you.

    I think this is a really cool improvement and I appreciate that there's a legacy button if I prefer to use the older version. One thing I was wondering about however, is that in the legacy, there was a side bar for navigation. However, that doesn't seem to be an option in this new one via the fulltext view. It would be fantastic to have a navigation tab so you could jump to whatever the relevant chapter is instead of having to scroll through all your content until you reach it. Always enjoy seeing these improvements!

    I have to be honest I find this revamp quite unfriendly. I can change how I have been working for new books but it’s going to make a mess of my existing ones. Now this is perhaps my fault for working ‘wrong’. I personally find it helpful to see how the book progresses through revision. Sometimes I make substantial changes. So each ‘plot line’ is a draft. I also have a reference structure ‘plot line’ so I can keep an eye on pacing. My scene cards are coloured to match the tag for the POV. On the video in the outline view it seems the information I can currently see - assigned characters, locations, tags - is no longer visible. I have my POV characters identified through the tag. It’ll be a real pain when drafting if I can’t see this info at a glance in the outline view.

    • @Plottr
      @Plottr Месяц назад

      Hi, thank you for sharing this feedback! You can view the old outline view any time by clicking the 'Legacy' button in the ribbon on the Outline tab, so you can still view things that way if you prefer.

    • @Plottr
      @Plottr Месяц назад

      We're glad to hear that! Technically, your cards in the "Plan" view will inherit the colors of your plotlines (this makes it easy to see which card comes from which plotline). If you use the toggle bottom right to change from "Plotline" to "Card" then each card will display its chosen color (and all will appear neutral if you have no individual card colors set). We hope this helps!

    I've watched a few of the videos, but it seems you guys are not really tapping into the teaching of the software's fundamentals. There's no true introduction to structuring a plot timeline or information on what each button or feature can achieve. Instead, it seems you guys are trying to teach how "you" would use the program rather than how it works. Based on the help videos I've seen thus far, most of the learning is geared toward non-fiction writers, whereas the consideration for fiction writers is not the focus. I believe your software may work wonders with all types of writers. Long story short, it would be so helpful if a video was made to focus on each button's fundamentals. Nonetheless, it would be helpful to make videos with ALL types of writers in mind, not only NON-fiction writers. With the current help videos, the teacher is beyond the fundamentals, making this program a little confusing to learn. It's almost like teaching someone how to structure a timeline in Adobe Premiere without first teaching them what each button does and how these buttons work in creating a simple and basic timeline. This is just my opinion, but you need a simplified video explaining how the software works. Then, the user can understand how to create their own layout. I will not give up on the software. However, I will simply have to learn as I go because the help videos do not point out this software's fundamentals and true purpose.
