Paul Wellstone: First Senate Campaign, 1989
Просмотров 10 тыс.11 лет назад
Not seen since August 1989, this rare natural sound footage of Paul Wellstone stumping at the Minnesota State Fair shows his passion and commitment to progressive issues, demonstrating his steadfast belief that politics can, and should, serve to benefit ordinary people, rather than corporations and the moneyed elite who wield undue influence in US elections. Filmed in 1989, produced and edited ...

"As Jon [Corzine, Ex-CEO Goldman Sachs] and I sat down with Magid coaches, they began showing us a videotape of the most likeable politician in America. It wasn't Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan. The tape was of a fast-talking, peerlessly energetic U.S. senator from Minnesota, Paul Wellstone. Wellstone died tragically in a plane crash in 2002 ... As we watched Wellstone, we saw his voice, hands and entire body communicating with electric passion as if he were a nonstop fireworks display. You couldn't take your eyes off him. You couldn't stop smiling, either, as he bubbled over with authenticity and hope. ... [The coaches] didn't choose some inoffensive, bland, nonethnic middle-aged man to show Jon what a likeable communicator looked and sounded like. In presenting Paul Wellstone, the Magid coaches chose someone unlike any other public figure in America at the time, and indisputably authentic." Love that passionate intro! Loved Paul Wellstone😀 Wonderful how he spoke to those kids. They had no money and were too young to vote. But he still valued everyone's wisdom and contribution.

For those who may not know, Paul Wellstone was a US Senator from Minnesota elected for two terms before his tragic death in 2002 just weeks before the election for his third term. He will be remembered for his passion for economic equal rights and extraordinary courage in not supporting the Iraq War. He will also be remembered for the mystery of his death in a small plane crash while campaigning with his wife and son on board. Especially of consideration is the possibility of his death being a deliberate homicide. Motive can be created by the timing of his death leading up to his upcoming crucial vote on whether or not congress should give the Bush Administration power to use force on Iraq. VP Dick Cheney’s words to Wellstone can be interpreted as a threat on his life if he did not vote to go to war. Wellstone shared publicly that Cheney said to him, “If you vote against the war in Iraq, the Bush administration will do whatever is necessary to get you. There will be severe ramifications for you and the state of Minnesota.” Paul Wellstone’s memory has inspired people in ways difficult to explain in this context. He will be dearly missed always.

Paul Wellstone loud mouth, was better off staying in obscurity as a failure of socialism. In 2008, he missed getting defecation on socialist reputation as Obama became president. He missed kissing all the fellow socialists in the Democrat party. He missed seeing Hillary ask "What Happen?"

This footage is actually from the 1989 State Fair, before the campaign had its own bus booth in 1990. The stump for speaking was placed outside the DFL booth. The stump and carnival atmosphere were courtesy of the creative genius of "barker" extraordinaire Kris Blake. May Paul's and Kris' memories be a blessing.

Hi I saw one of your other videos on the destruction from hurricane Sandy, and my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I live in California but my folks were from NJ & CT and we would spend summers at the mantoloking shore, such fond memories. My grandfather had a place on channel Lane just north of the spot in the video, I remember a family on the ocean side last name was Cunninghams, did you know them?
