Really a gorgeous transcription, and beautiful playing! It’s really interesting comparing Chez Pétrouchka and Danse Russe to Stravinsky’s own transcription. Most of time, I prefer Stravinsky’s own transcription, but in a few places, this version seems superior. For example, I really like how, at 10:45, Szántó uses double notes, to simulate the orchestral texture from the original. Stravinsky just use straight octaves. And the lower voice of the canon at 11:32 is a bit simplified in Stravinsky’s version, while here, both voices appear in full On the other hand, at 12:34, the polyphony between orchestra and piano is completely gone in this version, and at places like 11:11 and 11:40, the texture seems a little thin… But all in all, I think it’s really remarkable that both transcriptions are as similar as they are - they seem to have been published the same year.

This is so satisfyingly beautiful if you've heard the orchestra version of Petrushka, you can just about hear the big sections with dozens of instruments condensed into a piano brilliantly played by a master
