In this video I am sharing my Nanit baby monitor review! I am sharing our honest thoughts about the monitor, the mobile app and its breathing wear. @elisa thanks for this. We purchased it for our premature twins so the swaddle is a good call although I don’t know if the app can handle two swaddles at once for one camera (sleeping together at first). I have a major concern you may be able to resolve. We tested it yesterday while the babies are still at the hospital and noticed that it picks up the sound of the whole flat when someone speaks in the corridor or living room and not just from a close distance which makes it impossible to use really. Do you know if we are setting something incorrectly?
Hei ,do you need to keep the camera on all night for the breathing motion to detect if the baby isn’t breathing and the alarm to start ? Thank you !

Hello . So informative the video I was undecided if I should buy this for our baby and I will definitely give it a try . As I said I am not very familiar with the product . We have their pro camera: www.nanit.com/products/nanit-pro-camera We've used both the wall mount and floor stand with no issues! We also use the flex stand for travelling. Have you had any concerns with patterned sheets or PJ's interfering with the breathing wear?
We have had one crib sheet that it will get confused with, but no issue with pjs! We just stick with plain sheets now

Hi, just wondering how quickly your phone battery drains with the Nanit?
Contrast to the nanit, I prefer sense-u. I want to monitor my baby's sleep position. After using, I think sense-u is more accurate than nanit.
Excellent review. How’s the white noise function from the monitor? I was wondering if i can avoid buying the hatch if the nanit does a decent job.
It can get pretty loud but you can adjust it. The Nanit Pro does a great job of cancelling out the noise from the sound machine when you're listening to the monitor, but if you use the original Nanit camera, the sound is very loud through my phone because it's playing through the camera where it's picking up the noise. The Pro is able to cancel out that noise somehow though so I can still hear my baby through the night with the sound machine on.

If you are not supposed to use the breathing wear on top of swaddle, how did you track the breathing? Is there other breathing wear we can use or you didn't use the breathing monitor during swaddle at all?
With our son, we didn't use the breathing monitoring while he wore a swaddle. With our daughter, we bought their breathing wear swaddles and used those! They were great, similar design to other velcro swaddles!
Is this the original nanit?
Yes! I have the Pro camera now too for my daughter and have found it to work just the same as the original

Does anyone know why sometimes camera pops up in color and sometimes in black and white (even during the day)
I think it depends on how much light is in the room that the camera can pick up! As the sun moves around our room I notice it going from color to the black and white which is what it shows when it’s darker
Love the realness of your baby babbling in the background haha! Thanks for the video, we just purchased this and are now going through ins and outs of the app. First time parents so it's nice to see we aren't crazy for spending the extra dollar
It’s definitely more expensive than other monitors but it’s so worth it in my opinion for the peace of mind! We have our second baby now and still has Nanit ❤️
Thanks for the video! Quick question. I’m wanting to mount the Nanit higher than the instructions tell you. I’ll still have it centered but would love it be above the name sign. If I mount it higher will it interrupt the extra features like breathing analysis. Thank you!
I don’t think it will! When we travel and use the travel stand we can use the breathing monitoring regardless of where we place it as long as it has a clear view of the pattern

We didn’t use anything! We just used the monitor by itself and baby slept in our room

Does this record all the activities like our home security camera?
It will record when it detects sound or motion, so it isn’t a constant recording
Im super tempted to buy this monitor to replace the one I have. Does the camera have the ability to “scan” the room? I have 2 boys sharing a room and it would be super helpful if I can scan and see both of them. ☺️
If you use the travel stand, you can position the camera anyway you want in the room to keep an eye on them. But using it like this means you may not be able to get accurate breathing monitoring if that is important to you - it needs to be positioned over the baby with a clear view of the breathing band, which typically won't happen if it's more upright to view the whole room.
@@ElisaAlvarado awesome, thank you so much. The breathing monitoring isn’t as important because they are 10 mos and 2 years old. But I’ll definitely consider that when my third kid is born here in the next month or so. ☺️☺️

Thank you for this review. You convinced me to get this instead of the Owlet. I do have a question thought. Can the floor stand be placed on the short side of the crib instead of being centered on the wide side? Our crib is against the wall where we have a huge name sign so we cant place it there. Would I be able to adjust the camera or angle so it covers the crib horizontally and use all the features? Thanks in advance.
Hey! I purchased the Nanit and I set it up on the short side of the crib using the wall mount option and I am able to see the full crib. So far its been working out great.
Does the baby have to have the sleep sack on for the breathing to be tracked? We have the Miku monitor now and it tracks breathing without wearing anything. Just looking into other options for our second baby even though we do love the Miku lol
Yes! The baby has to be wearing some sort of their breathing wear, either a band, swaddle or sleep sack. It uses the pattern on the clothing to track breaths per minute.
Does it work for twins?
You have to buy two monitors. And I don’t think you can view both at once, you have to switch between cameras on the app
I’m between the Nanit with the sleep band vs the Owlet with the sock. So for a newborn/infant if they are swaddled, you can put the breathing band around? I’m assuming the same with the owlet sock.
They don't recommend you put the band around another swaddle on baby. But Nanit does sell their own swaddles that have the breathing wear in them you could use. We haven't tried them, but plan to use them for baby no. 2!
Does nanit have a color video option?
It shows color when there is light in the room, but since the camera is infrared it turns to shades of gray at night
Great review! Can the the app be downloaded and viewed on a desktop computer or laptop in addition to the iphone or ipad?
Do you know if it works to its full potential outside the US ? I live in Brazil ...
I'm sorry I only know how it works in the US where I live! I imagine if you have a good internet connection though it should work fine
Question! Did you use the sleep sack over the swaddle when he was little? Or did you not use the breathing portion at all?
We didn't use the breathing monitor portion at all when he was still in swaddles. Nanit hadn't come out with their breathing wear swaddles yet so we just used our plain ones and then started the breathing monitor when he was able to use their sleepsacks.

Yes definitely, we've never had any false alarms and have found it trustworthy!
I bought this for a friends baby shower coming up and ive beem seeing some people are having alot of issues with it. Should i return it? Im a bit worried as its expensive and it would be embarrassing if it didn't work
@@jacobmansfield9397 I've never had any issues! They do updates every once in a while that may cause a lapse, but we've never noticed anything. It's important to have reliable internet service also. But we've had it since October 2019 and still use it at least twice a day when our son sleeps

A review on Amazon said that they couldn't use the breathing monitor with the travel mount..is that true. I just ordered this and will have the bassinet bedside so worried about it . Maybe I should purchase the floor mount also.
We have always been able to use the breathing monitor with our travel stand! We usually bring a tripod with us to mount it to since you have to have a good angle on it. But we've also just placed it on a dresser or bookshelf next to the bassinet and have had no issues!
@@ElisaAlvarado okay thanks for letting me know. That person must of been incorrect so that helps give me peace of mind knowing I can go somewhere and utilize all the same features with the travel mount
Hi Elisa! Can you use airplay to cast the video feed from the Nanit app to an AppleTV, smart TV, or chromecast? Thanks!
The only problem I see with this and other baby monitors is where the data (video and analytics) is stored. I read Nanit's statement about their security and they mentioned that all your data from the app is stored in an AWS S3 bucket (Amazon cloud storage). Now they claim that this alone is good security and this is what worries me. I work in cybersec and I can assure everyone that this is an empty statement. It also worries me that you are able to access your app and camera without being on the local network (wifi) because that basically means that your account credentials are your only line of security. It's usually better for IoT devices that this isn't a possibility. Do you know if the app supports 2 factor authentication? If it doesn't it would be a real deal breaker since the functionality with all the analytics sound amazing.
I read that this one is the only camera right now with 2 step multi verification. Owlet and Miku do not
Do you know if there’s a way to setup the camera on the short sides of the crib (vs in the middle of the widest part)?
Yes you can! When we travel we have it set up on the short side with the travel stand and never have issues
we are just looking to buy one, and noticed that they also have a floor stand which you can use to position any side of the crib
Can you download the videos and pictures the app records to your phone ?
You can save them for a few days after they record on the app! After so long they disappear on the app if you don’t save them
Since you didn’t use the bands, how was a breathing tracked as a newborn?
We didn’t use anything to track breathing when he was a newborn. He slept in a bassinet in our room and we felt comfortable enough with that and just going in to check on him every so often

Do you HAVE to be connected to the same Wifi to view the camera? For example if I’m away from home and someone is watching my baby, can I view the live feed?
Yes you can! You just need internet connection and you can view the live feed - I do so from work when my husband stays home with our son!
Thanks for this video! I have black out curtains so it’s very dark in the bedroom. Do you think this monitor would still be clear in a dark black room? We would keep on a night light but still curious..
Yes! We have blackout curtains as well so it is very dark in his room. The camera uses infrared lights so it picks up good detail in a very dark room without lighting anything up!

I'm not sure what is included without the Insights subscription since we've always paid for it. I would check out their website or talk to their customer service!
Can you double swaddle the baby so swaddle then add the swaddle breathing sleep wear over top? It gets cold where I live at night so concerned of keeping baby warm but also want to track breathing
I would just use the Nanit swaddle that they make to track breathing and maybe thicker pajamas for the baby if you’re worried about them being cold!
Thanks for your video. How you meant to track a new born with the sleep wear if it can’t be used over swaddle because I will need to swaddle my baby all snug and warm during cold nights . I don’t understand
Nanit makes a swaddle that can be used with the breathing wear! We just didn’t end up using it when he was little. But you can find it on their website: www.nanit.com/products/swaddle
Thanks for such a great review! Do you know if they can wear the band in the snoo? Do you think it’s worth getting the one that comes with the band and sleep sack or just the camera/wall mount?
I don't know if the breathing wear will work in the Snoo - I don't have one but I think they have a built in swaddle that would cover the band and the movement might throw off the readings. I love having the breathing wear sleep sacks! My son is 13 months old now and sleeps in one each night - very comforting for a mom with a wild sleeper who likes sleeping on his tummy!

@@courtneybean5293 He is in the large! I think it's 12-24 months. We didn't start using the breathing wear with him until he was in his own room which was round 5 months! Before that we just used the camera alone but I would have loved to have the smaller sacks or bands for under his arms

Yes! I can see the monitor while I’m at work, just need internet connection through wifi or using LTE/4G
