As much as I love Ozzy Black Sabbath's brain team was always Iommi & Butler with Ward & Ozzy being very awesome at their craft but not as much the defining sound that Iommi's riffs & Butler's lyrics as they were the songwriters of the band like a Lennon/Mcartney pact although Butler wrote all the lyrics & I suspect some of their riffs Iommi was the main riff writer so for Sharon to say Ward and Butler were hired musicians is totally false as Butler's bass lines & lyrics are a huge piece of Black Sabbath's success and Ward's drumming was every bit if not better than John Bonham or Keith Moon, not to say that Ozzy wasn't a huge part but Geezer wrote the lyrics which means he also had to come up with the melodic sung style to fit those lyrics into so Ozzy was basically just a great voice to sing Butler's words to a melody Butler had already mapped out for him, so I don't know who was a bigger influence over Nlack Sabbath between Butler or Iommi but they were both way more influential to Black Sabbath than Ozzy was as look what they did with Dio although I suspect Dio actually wrote his own lyrics and melody, so as much as I love Ozzy I consider him to be the weakest link of the band but nobody else would've had that early Black Sabbath voice he brought to their signature sound although I appreciate Dio era just as much as Ozzy era of Black Sabbath & i need to do some research as I have yet to hear them with Ian Gillan from Deep Purple singing but heard he had been their singer briefly
