Krug Champagne is considered a non vintage champagne since it does not ...

    Great video with so much solid content! Interesting to hear that 05 and 09 Bordeaux didn't live up to their reputation. Is this the same tasting that you mention in which you and your friends had wines that were over the hill?! 15 yr old Bordeaux over the hill?! I hope not! And I second the small correction from mickleylee2624- Albarino is not from Italy, as you say, but rather from Spain and Portugal (where it is known as Alvarinho).

    Thanks Tony for this succinct tasting note! I have the 2018 vintage in the wine cellar. I'll keep your experiences in mind when I taste the wine. Such a project needs time, skills and experience. In addition to passion, enthusiasm and perseverance. And don't forget originality! Because we already have a lot of premium Bordeaux blends at top level. It takes much more than substantial investments and a commercial story. This requires, for example, a wine culture. Such a prestige wine is only partly makeable! Thanks again for this useful information, cheers!

    You should check the Neuchâtel Pint Noir, "Domaine de Chambleau" / "Domaine des Landions" / "Domaine de la Rochette - Jacques Tatasciore " (Most prestigious). Also the Chasselas like you mentionned (Dézaley) and Valais (Fendant, Petit arvine, Humagne, Cornalin). If you focus on the Italian part, you get mostly Merlot.

    Thanks for all your hard work, really learn a lot from you. I am going to HK in November, is Watsons the best place to do some wine shopping? And about the super second, I look at it as based on quality and not the price, maybe we need a new system now, the 1855 is too old and outdated, lots of time makes me feel confused and not trustworthy , I am in the 70 and can not age the wine too long, so have to spend more to buy some older vintage.

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter День назад

      Warren: no Watson is not the best place to shop for wine but HK has so many choices and so many back vintages I am sure you will find something good. If you have the means and based on your age, just set a budget and buy wines at that range...no need to "learn" or drink towards a plateau..just drink the best you can now. I think all the super seconds are really good wines so I am not too worried about those or first growths..they will be great wines. It is when you get the 3, 4, and 5 that it gets more confusing. If you like young and fruity Pinot Noirs, then at the coast of Lake Zurich you will find good quality for a rarher lower price $20 - $40. Ticino and Valais also produce extraordinary wines, but haven't visited the vineyards in person. Hi Trophy! I’m from Switzerland and grew up in the wine region of “Graubünden” or “Grisons” as you’d call it in English :-) The Region “Bündner Herrschaft” produces one of the best pinot noirs ever (I now I’m biased) - it’s located near Chur which is easily accessible by train and bus. You have to try a “Gantenbein” Pinot Noir I love the 2014 one. They also produce excellent chardonnay - It’s one of the best Swiss wines I’ve ever tasted. They’re pretty expensive but I could recommend you a couple restaurants which have it in stock in the region or Zürich / german speaking park of Switzerland if you plan to visit. There are so many producers in Switzerland which just make a super small amount of wine each year and you’re only able to get one of 1000 bottles for example if you visit the vineyard directly. Most of them feel just like high quality wines and are very tasty, a couple are overpriced but hence the Swiss economy everything is expensive - hope you will have a great time!

    That will be an interesting and educational trip Tony! My Dad used to come for work, at least once a year in Switzerland. Naturally shared his experiences. I myself have visited the country a dozen times. The standard of living is very high in Switzerland, as most of us know. This also means that the general price level is high, therefore also of food and wine. I have had excellent wine from Switzerland in the past. But have also tasted relatively simple wine, which was not worth its high price. I don't say that quickly, because I think every wine deserves a chance, both a precious and a cheap bottle of wine. As in many wine countries/regions, gain experience and do not judge too quickly. Many exclusive top products, in the field of food, go to Switzerland. This indeed also applies to wine. Soon I will try a Syrah, Chamoson from Valais from Didier Joris. A wine from the year 1999. Prior to a Petit-Arvine Réserve, by Jean René Germanier, 2021. Wines available in specialized webshops in, for example, the Netherlands and Germany. Some more names in general, Patrick Adank, Martin Donatsh, Daniel and Martha Gantenbein (very renowned Chardonnay and Pinot-Noir), Thomas Studach, Fransica and Christian Obrecht. Cheers!

I didn’t really dive into them like it sounds like you intend to do and I kept it to around $60-$70 for a bottle but what we had while we were there was very good. I didn’t bother to write down or remember what we had because as you note, you can’t really find Swiss wine outside of Switzerland. In fact, that was one of the first things that we were told. Agree mostly with your review… tried it a few months ago and it was maybe just OK at opening (a bit too sweet) but it definitely got worse as the night went along. Also opened a bottle of 2015 Ponte Canet ( with a healthy decant) and in contrast this one got better and better until it was gone! $180 for the Duckhorn vs $130 for the Ponte C and believe me it wasn’t even close!

      wine_guy: I think it is about personal preference. For me, my palate prefers Bordeaux but I try to recognize quality even if it is not my preference. Cheers!

      @@TrophyWineHunter Agreed it all comes down to personal preference. That said, could you justify the price point on that wine ($180 US)? I personally can’t see it, but would like to hear your thoughts. Cheers & look forward to more reviews!🍷

      @@Wine_guy93 again, not my thing so no for me. But then some Napa drinkers may think, how could you pay $150 for Pontet Canet? This is big and bold and if you are into that, maybe you value it. For my palate, I would prefer Caymus Special Selection or even Insignia at the same price. Cheers!
