Turn it up! Sounds great!!
Is that a Mesa Boogie 50 Caliber behind you? I have one.
Haha, yea it is! The Mesa isn't actually my amp as I was recording this demo at school I used to teach at but it's a cool amp!
@@sheifiproductions Ha!. I was watching this video because I was looking into this Quilter amp you are demonstrating here. It arrived 12/20/24 and sounds great! Mine has the 3 button controller. I can't find a 6 button. I'll keep looking.
@@Jeff-S congrats on the amp. It's a great amp, and frankly I've liked pretty much everything I've ever tried from Quilter. I don't believe the 6 button foot switch is still available but you might be able to find it somewhere used. If you go to the quilter website and to support it doesn't hurt to ask as they're generally quite responsive and helpful!
@@sheifiproductions Great advice. I'll reach out to them. Yes I figured it wasn't available but I could probably find a used one if I keep poking around. No big deal though. The three button one that it came with works well. Thank you.
Got the uk model. Alot of bang for the buck .pay attention Friedman at $600.
@@leehenderson8132 still haven’t tried the UK model but love the US superblock. I’ve got way more than $300 out of it :)
Great!
@@JorgeGuitarLover thank you!!
Awesome 😮
Maybe this review was made before the Godin 59 review came out bc the guy DOES SPLIT THE HUMBUCKER.
@@lauriemacquanan2141 I sold the guitar quite a while ago so honestly don’t remember :)
95% the same sound
Listening in isolation, all kinds of tiny sonic nuances may be heard. Once any other instrument plays along those nuances greatly diminish. In a full band those nuances completely disappear. Also, the production and processes that are a part of recording an electric guitar greatly alter the sound of a guitar and amp. What is heard on a recording is not what that guitar and amp sounded like in the room where it was recorded.
Good points! Isolated, you can hear some minor differences between the guitars. In a mix I think it would be very difficult to hear the difference. I didn't change any settings on the amp or move the mic (or add any post production) to make this as fair as possible but yet when you're listening to a mixed recording odds our things like EQ, compression, etc, have been added.
Always level your volumes before posting.
That noise is very annoying 😢
I like this video because I'm also a guy who plays guitar, wears glasses, and has silver hair at a relatively early age. Rock on!
@@JoeGariano haha, we both rock in style :)

Gotcha
Thanks
A excellent performance. I play a little like you. Would you recommend one of these? You seem very at home on it.
Thank you! Yes, I definitely recommend one if you want to play straight ahead jazz, chord melody stuff, or light acoustic stuff. I basically wanted something along the lines of an L5 but without spending a ton of money! This guitar is great value. Important to note though I did change the original pickup (more just for experimentation) but the original p90 that comes with it also sounds quite good. I did another demo with the original pickup in it.
@@sheifiproductions Thanks. There’s a second hand one in my local shop. I’ll check it out.
10/10 would reccomend
The best review of one of these I’ve yet seen; or I should say, your playing is the most like I’d like to try on a guitar like this.
@@MrMjp58 Thank you so much for think words! I got the guitar to mainly do solo acoustic kind of stuff and straight ahead jazz and it definitely accomplishes this! If you want a good sounding hollowbody it’s hard to find a better one in this price range!
@@sheifiproductions Further to my last comment, I’ve borrowed one. It was fitted with extremely heavy bronze strings and was very hard to play. The pickup didn’t seem to respond well to these strings either - a rather weak signal and sound. I did like the general construction and feel of it though. I’m going to try some electric strings (11 - 46) on it and see how it goes on (before I give it back). Out of interest, what sort of strings do you use? An interesting hybrid instrument. I think I prefer it to a flat top, for the sort of material I attempt.
How heavy is this guitar
Hey from Slovakia..Amazing playing and perfect sound. What Amp did you use?❤
@@gejzalakatos7714 thank you so much for the kind words! For all of the clean electric solo jazz guitar stuff I almost always use quilter products. I’m pretty sure when I recorded this I used a quilter micro pro mach 2 and now I usually use a quilter superblock us.
Incredible playing! Sounds amazing. I wish I could play Jazz guitar. Keep up the great work! 👍
@@LifesBetterWithMusic Thank you for then kind words! I actually started playing rock/blues stuff before I got into jazz. There is always time to learn new styles :)
Oooh lala ❤❤❤ I wanna play my Godin like you! I want that sound!

Gnarls and Blackstreet just really solid soaring vocal stuff and ensemble brass setting to you midi controller keyboard? I like it.
Thanks Mike! I’ve been spending time to try and upgrade my home recording studio setup so pretty happy with it so far. Still a lot to learn. The horns were just from midi controller. Would have preferred real horns but it’s not horrible :)
How old are the strings on the solid body? Sounds like newer strings on hollow body (which makes a huge tonal difference) hollow body is brighter, most sustain, solid body is dull. But it sounds like the it just has strings that have been played more/longer since last time they were changed. (could also be a factor of pick up height.) Bravo on same exact pickups, but should be - same strings (size, brand, newness - should be brand new to keep all things equal.) - same action/string height (will make a huge difference) - same pickup height (height between the pickup and the strings - make enormous difference. The solid body sounds lower output even though it has the same exact pickups, which would point to the hollow body having the pickups a bit higher and closer to the strings.) new strings vs old strings + distance between pickups and strings with make massive, massive difference - I would expect way more than the difference between solid or hollow body, but it would be great to see a video where all the important elements are controlled for - same scale length, same pickups, same strings, same distance between pickups and strings (to the millimeter).
It does genuinely have valve tone
Out of tune
Great Demo!
Thanks! Can’t say enough good things about the Superblocks. At the beginning I just used it for mostly convenience when I didn’t want to use or bring a tube amp but I’ve been using it more and more for live gigs and recording just because of how good it sounds!
@@sheifiproductions will have one soon!
That's what I'm talking bout!!
Yes sir!
Excellent work. The sound is surprisingly similar. I was looking at a hollowbody to rely less on my acoustic. After hearing this, I'll stay with my acoustic. Thanks.
Thanks for the review. I have been looking at getting a nice Godin hollow body like this for the Kingpin 2 series. I like having a bridge pickup like the II has since it gives more tonal options. I love P90s.
Thanks! I think it’s one of the best values out there for a hollowbody guitar. I’ve been very happy with mine.
Just got it. It's my first Godin and first Telecaster. It feels great and looks amazing. One thing I'm not sure of, as in if this is usual for Teles or just this Godin model in general, but the bridge pickup get quite noisy when introducing the slightest bit of distortion. The sustain is also not great, on the bridge pickup. No complaints on the neck humbucker, it sounds great.
Being a single coil pickup in the bridge it will definitely buzz more compared to the neck humbucker. However, I don’t recall it being noisy compared to standard tele bridge pickups. Do any of the other positions create a lot of buzz or just when it’s only the bridge?
@@sheifiproductions The other positions aren't as bad but do have some hiss (except humbucker). Bridge position mainly.
i may not buy this after hearing that buzz..I meet and test a used one this am and may put it thru my LR baggs venue..I like where the p90s are placed
My Kingpin has near to no buzz at all.. I've gigged with it for years and never had any kind of buzz.
Your guitar tone is amazing
Thank you, I appreciate it! I’ve really been diggin this setup.
Is it a full hollow body or a semi hollow body? Thanks!
It has the right envelope for jazz, doesn't it?
Right envelope?
They have a different bridge
That is true. I know for example in a tele the differences in time between steel and brass saddles are fairly noticeable but I’m not sure how much of a difference in tone these two more similar bridges would make, but certainly possible it would account for some tone difference.
Love to see this, I'm digging the new dynamic Jordan is playing with.
Thanks and Jordan and Jon both played great on this tune!
Actually I think the difference is huge. The hollow sounds full (how a good instrument should), and the solidbody sounds muffled.
Interesting to hear the range of opinions. If you listen with decent headphones you can hear a difference. I would agree the hollowbody has a little bit more a full range with more lows and highs and the solid body is a little more focused.
you hear the difference when you have a good set of set of headphone
The after-ring seems brighter on the hollow body
Agreed, think the difference is pretty subtle but it's there.
You have always IMO been great instrumentally, but this sounds on another level to me composition wise, tear jerking even with no lyrics. 2:45 guitar section is absolute 🔥 1:12 really nice chord changes, almost goes where you expect, but bends it just enough to add color 4:36 sizzling guitar again Whole piece sounds like flame sneaking out behind a calm exterior, keeps jazz color without sounding hazy or losing pop theme strength and focus. I really wonder how many say Silversun Pickups, Polyphia, or otherwise more sophisticated types of prog alt rock would find themselves suddenly listening to a whole lot of jazz if you pointed them here.
Thanks for the kind words Mike! You should consider doing more music reviews as I love your descriptions. I've always enjoyed utilizing some of the jazz vocabulary and improvisational techniques with some of more rock/fusion background. I agree I think many fans of prog alt rock styles might enjoy some compositions similar to this.
