Ive recently started to learn the chanter, i currently play the concert flute but wanted to learn someting new, my in initial thoughts were am i now to old to learn at 46, spoke to a few friends who are pipers to be reassured ur never to old to learn

Hi ,i would half agree with your présentation of those doubling.they both could bé played in two ways depending on the way you interprete thé writing.The doubling on high G can bé done with a G gracenote on F folowed by playing thé high G note. And thé doubling on High A Can be done with a high A gracenote on high G folowed by the note high A. This last method is less knowed but vert nice and effective. In one case these doubling are seen like" half slurs" In thé second case we use a real gracenote in the first part of thé doubling then a passage on the final notes High G or high A. But in the two cases thé writing is thé same ! So i Hope i add some more information on the bagpipe techniques .Cheers

Hi craig, I noticed that my practice chanter, as well as yours, starts from G# instead of the low G neutral. Is this a common variation, or should it be tuned differently?

Good video. No doubt you will have seen the six nations and the pipe band of Rome playing this before the Scotland Italy match. A really nice moment I thought.

I appreciate how you have slowed and broke down the tune, I am a Piper with the Great Falls Pipe Band, I was at band practice last night and my pipe major told me that I was crushing my doublings, this video is helping me out.

I'm trying to get the low G.All holes are covered. The low note is much lower than your low G. Just got a Barefoot 18 inch practice chanter. Does the reed need trimming to get it to the low G ? What are your suggestions?

Hi Craig. I'm 49 from New Zealand. I've played drums in a competing PB since the age of 10. Our 9 year old daughter has decided to learn the the pipes, I'll learn with her. I'll remain a band drummer but have always wanted to learn the pipes. Your site is great here, thankyou. Keep up the great work.
