Tyrone County Inspector O'Callaghan has gone to meet the Monaghan County Inspector in Monaghan both men are ambushed. The Monaghan County Inspector is killed. Inspector O'Callaghan has escaped and is hiding out in the countryside between Monaghan & Tyrone. Sgt. Collins and 2 constables are sent out from Fivemiletown barracks to find the missing Inspector.
