'Subtle Asymmetries in Trying' - Solo Piano Composition
Haven't posted anything in a bit, so here's a little (mostly) linear contemporary piano piece written due to a lack of sleep.

No Diamonds - A short piece for solo piano

Been over a year since I wrote a new piano piece, so I thought I'd try to compose something with a similar vibe to the last one but with a more modern colour palette. Handwritten score because it's satisfying to make 💫 Playback using Modartt Pianoteq 8

Symphonic Prelude in B major - Musescore 4.2 with Muse Sounds
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.11 месяцев назад
A 4'33-long orchestral prelude based off of this little impressionistic piano piece: ruclips.net/video/4vTVmqkNp1Y/видео.html I'm slowly getting around to orchestrating some of my other piano pieces too, so there's more coming soon! Fingers crossed that Musescore might get some updated brass playback in the future, but I'm still happy with how things are sounding.

'Dream's End' - a symphonic composition
Просмотров 13 тыс.Год назад
thx tantacrul Here's my first full-length orchestral piece, based off of that sketch I posted last month! Really enjoying writing with MuseScore 4, though I had to cater much of the piece to the strengths of Muse Sounds, and avoid choices that pushed the samples too far. As always, inspired by Debussy, Ravel, and Joe Hisaishi. Headphones because it's very dynamic. Composed by Thad Bailey-Mai
An Unfinished Dreamy Sketch for Orchestra - MuseScore 4 using Muse Sounds

Update: Here's a link to the finished one - ruclips.net/video/SIW-2OIOJ5E/видео.html An unfinished dreamy orchestral sketch, trying to channel some Debussy and a pinch of Scriabin. Likely the first movement of something longer. I'm still loving the new Muse Sounds, but the sluggish strings are pretty frustrating at times. But hey, you can't beat free lol

A sketch in G Major for piano - An homage to Ravel

Composed by Thad Bailey-Mai An Homage to Ravel’s Tombeau De Couperin, further inspired by Vaughan Williams, & Joe Hisaishi. The structure of the opening motif was subconsciously inspired by Le Tombeau De Couperin, though unwittingly/unintentionally! It could be considered a variation of the aforementioned, and is definitely an homage to the brilliance of Ravel’s impressionistic style.

wow this sounds amazing
Sounds like experimental neo-classical piece in 1900s?
Very nice work!
add some harp and you'll basically be ravel :)
How did it sound that unique?
Impressive!
You're an expert!
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PIECES I'VE HEARD ON THE INTERNET! There are few things I've noticed. 1. Fmaj7 chord 2. Unexpected key signature change in 0:11 (A minor to Db major) 3. Another key signature change in 0:24 (Supposed to be F# major, sounded like D major, and it turned into G major) 4. Time signature changed in 0:36 and the right hand part is acting like echoes. 5. 3:4 Polyrhythm in 0:51 I was so confused while reading the sheet music. Still, I think the best part is how the notes are really intricate, creating a liminal feeling of certainty and uncertainty, much like being in a dream. I truly learned a lot from your magical piece.
Awesome, it’s always really nice to hear that a piece of mine can help someone learn something new!
You found a way to make me like 5/8 time, and for that, you have achieved the near impossible. haha. There are places where the sheet music video messed up and the measure lines are in the wrong places, but I understand this, as I have similar issues out of my control on my videos. I'll let you know if I figure out a solution. Anyway - using Con Ped. is a good idea, because regular pedal markings are notorious for messing up in video as well. I think your meter changes to allow longer passages reminds me of John Williams, who frequently uses that kind of effect in his film scores (such as the Scherzo for X Wings). The 3/8 B section was very excellent as well, and balanced the free flowing nature of the A section very well. This was a nice etude and very pleasant to the ear.
Wonderful, I’m glad I found a way to make 5/8 feel palatable for you! Thanks for listening :)
great stuff omg
Very underrated channel. Subscribed.
it paints a picture that i can imagine.. which is really nice !
Nice the final 4 against 3, perfect sense with those bichord 🙌
Absolutely fantastic. I always learn something new in your pieces
Beautiful
Arranging...
hmmm 🤔
Bravo, you have superb ideas that are always very pleasant to hear, through your compositions you manage to create a sort of fusion between the impressionist music of the beginning of the 20th century and the modern jazz of 21th Mays/Metheny etc. The only regret is that you only write pieces that are too short, you should try to spend more time developing your basic ideas on a single large piece to produce one day why not a symphony, a sonata, a concerto for piano, you have the skills! Best wishes
Thank you, always appreciate your thoughtful comments! I might try expanding on this piece :)
Beautiful little sound world once again. Love those repeated notes at the end, like water droplets.
Thanks for listening as always! Definitely intended on conveying water droplet imagery, glad it came across.
What does you use to edit this?
Video editing is minimal, just a QuickTime screen capture, then combining it with the exported audio.
Beautiful
well i'd love to be able to pay you for the sheet music but i've taught myself this from the video and it's still genuinely one of my favourite pieces:') and probably my best warmup piece, it just feels wonderfully fluid to play
A great impressionistic composer^^
Hello, Sorry to bother but I´d like to learn this piece, do you offer any sheet music on pdf or smt like that?
That reminds me of Stravinsky and Debussy.
Beautiful!
Nice style, is it like impressionism? Love the jazzy harmonies. Very free form, love it. It's inspiring I should try something like this.
I like the gradual increase in tension and the element of disturbance and disruption that comes to head and retreats....the ending is also has the distinct effect of leaving something behind.
It has moments of strong Joe Hisaishi influence. A really excellent piece!
Definitely a huge influence!
Really fantastic stuff yet again! Feels like a cross between Copland/Zelda/yoshimatsu, which all feel light and refreshing and delightfully off-kilter. And also great work pulling this great of a sound out of musescore. Keep writing!
Thank you :) I definitely feel like you nailed the influences/overall intended vibe of the piece! Glad you liked it. Also, I’ve been really enjoying all of the piano pieces you’ve been posting as well lately!
beautiful! seeing your videos inspires me to learn to write music!
That’s really nice to hear! I started writing music by just fooling around at the piano, and seeing what stuck. I hope you give it a try!
@@thadbaileymai Yes, I definitely will! Composing orchestral scores has always been my dream. :)
Really lovely.
nice bassoon writing
I don't like it. Its very uncomfortable to listen to.
Gorgeous orchestration of your already very nice piano piece! The instrument associations and the resulting textures are so well chosen and a delight to hear. There is something reminiscent of your Sketch in G piece (itself somewhat reminiscent of Ravel's music), I guess this must be your personal style and preferences that I sense across your music. I'm curious to know if you used MuseScore sounds or external instruments plugins for the rendering?
Thank you, I was actually intending on this piece being in a similar style to the Sketch in G piece, but with some different “vocabulary” so to speak. It’s definitely reflective of many of my preferences! For the sounds, it’s entirely MuseScore, but with lots of hidden dynamics, articulation, and even duration markings. Unfortunately it wouldn’t play back nearly as cleanly without a lot of additional tweaking.
Dear Thad, congratulations to your work! My name is Andreas, I´m a conductor in Germany. Are you interested to write a piece for a real orchestra and choir? Best wishes Andreas
Hello Andreas, thank you so much for your interest in my music. My work schedule is quite busy for the next few months, but I am definitely interested in your thoughtful offer! Feel free to contact me through my website at thadbaileymai.com/contact 😊
@@thadbaileymai Sent you an Email. 🙂
I really like your work. I wonder how you create these thumbnails with images in the background. Is there any option to display sheet music on a transparent background in musescore?
Thank you! I just make them in Canva. You can also change the background behind the score in MuseScore under the appearances tab.
This is so cool.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sounding great as always :D
Man, this is so good! Thank you for inspiring all of us!
Oh my gosh, this is such a beutiful peice! The ways in which the different lines, melodies and countermelodies mesh and balance with each other while still bringing out the contrast in textures over the entire arrangement withought letting the complexity of the peice convolute it is really cool!! You've been one of my biggest composition inspirations :)
I know the title is probably a joke, but this really does evoke mincecraft to me! well done!
I wrote a good chunk of this while I had a couple friends over playing Minecraft trying to convince me to join their realm instead of working… I think it rubbed off!
Ok. Nice score but kind of impossible to play for mediocre player.
Beautiful as always
Nice composition and title! just Checked your piano piece, it was awesome. taking inspiration from your piece for my next composition.
Cool.
really enjoy how you toss the melody between instruments, gives it a nice light feel. How do you make the score fit the frame without it adding other lines? every time i hide unused staves it adds other lines into the frame.
Thank you! If I’m understanding you correctly, you can adjust how many bars fits into each page with the bracket keys or by selecting how many bars you want and hitting return/enter. You can also use spacers and page breaks to limit how many staves appear per page. Hiding unused staves will make the score messy at first, then you can do these adjustments afterwards.
@@thadbaileymai Okay, thanks so much!
Great textures and dynamics. Love these harmonies!
Lindo como sempre! Abraços do Brasil!
awesome woodwinds colors as always , where did you study music ?
Thank you :) I went to a small jazz school in Canada to study improv on trumpet, but I spend lots of time working on composition on my own time!
