    I loved the analysis and i agree 100%! I was hurt myself by this propaganda that you somehow become less valuable as a person if you have sex. It has stopped me for many many years to have the freedom to fully immerse myself in relationships because I always thought that if I give in and did the deed, then I HAD to make it last forever (the relationship). and the subconscious doubt if it could last forever, or if I really wanted that forever.. made me freeze and not continue the relationship further. So yes, clinching on this "virtue" idea is only super hurtful and dangerous for us women.

    Mrs. Kim is in a cult. And your spin on what and why she is doing it is just a bit innocent. Do some research to see that Lane was suffering from being not only a religous, but also one from their heritage. Guess what, millions of people live this life every day. Im not liking this judging and shaming rant of Disney Mothers. They are all people that were formed and some will stay that way and some will evolve.

    Of all Emily is the worst because she's a narcissist and uses emotional manipulation and control to bend Lorelei's will and make her feel small. Emotional abuse is much worse than neglect in my opinion. But Sherri is on the same level with Emily. I couldn't stand Sherri either. I need to skip forward when she's in the show. I also agree with what you said about Lorelei. She raised a golden child who could do no wrong. But, in her defence, she had zero role models and she was abused as well. (of course, having an abusive mother is no excuse for not raising your own child right).

    I think a major aspect of why Dean is viewed as the worst is because he behaves in an awful manner, has aggressive and misogynistic tendencies, and the show NEVER frames it as if he's the problem. Rory was very much in an abusive relationship at some point and while every male interest gets their flaws addressed in the show, Dean does not. Lorelai herself doesn't address it and framed a good chunk of the relationship going south on Jess. This is despite her daughter seeming genuinely scared of her very aggressive ans possessive boyfriend. Coupled with the fact that his only attraction to Rory was surface level (and he makes no effort to get to know her as oppsosed to the damn Donna Reed episode), Dean is overall just awful and being a teen isn't an excuse. I hate when people say Dean was a teen experiencing the same insecurities we all dealt with. A teen abusing his girlfriend is still abusive. Her kissing Jess isn't justified, but considering Rory felt safer with Jess than with Dean at the time, I don't blame her.

And maybe even a segment on how you think Rory will be as a mother, if she would include logan or not, potentially breaking up another marriage Would love to see your take!! ❤ A video on the father's would also be great

    Finally someone mentions how Rory seemed actually afraid of him at points! I don’t exactly hate him, but I find it deeply concerning that she seems frightened of him, combined with his tendency towards yelling and what might be displays of physical intimidation At the same time he also took a lot of unwarranted crap from several characters, especially in the early seasons, so he gets my sympathy in those cases But yeah he was never the perfect boyfriend. Dreamy in fanfic way when we were teens? Sure. Did a lot of really solid things. Also true. But define not the beacon of perfection characters (especially Lorelei once Jess came in the picture) constantly treated him as. He definitely had a lot of toxic stuff to unlearn, and how he treated Lindsey was just appalling

  • @alyzu4755

    Yeah, Dean is aggravating. AND he gets a pass for the cheating! So many people in the fandom blame Rory fully for the affair, but he treated both Rory and Lyndsey SO badly. And he manipulated Rory into believing that he was leaving his marriage. Im not saying Rory isn't also at fault, she is. Yes, Rory did some REALLY bad cr*p, but Dean was constantly berating her. Even for things over which she had no control (having to do a scene from "Romeo and Juliet" with Tristan for school, coming over to see Rory after she'd specifically asked him not to and finding Jess there, who'd also shown up uninvited, etc.). And then there was the time he told Luke that Lorelei wasn't going to stick around, after she'd JUST PURCHASED AN INN in town! Gimmee a break, dude! I also LOVE the point you make that Rory believed she deserved anger from her boyfriends because of Dean. Laurelei and the town all believe that Dean is wonderful, but no one sees his mistreatment of her. I'm SO SORRY for what you went through as a kid. I get it.

  • @moonieverso
    @moonieverso 8 месяцев назад

    I'm at 18 min, but I didn't interpret the "I've got the good kid" as Lorelai thinking Rory is better than Paris, the same as I don't think Paris was actually okay with having sex for the first time. Paris is a kid without a parent figure that listen to her, she has her nanny and that's it (good, but not enough), in that moment I think Paris is not certain if what she did was right, not because of purity, but because she's not sure of things in relationship and never had an adult to talk to her 1 on 1. Yes, lots of people have sex in a year relationship, but lots of people don't. Is not purity culture to wait for your own pace and your own time, sometimes you just don't want it even if you are in a relationship with someone you love. Paris was unsure bc maybe it really wasn't her time and she was trying to convince herself, asking ANOTHER kid like Rory for advice bc she didn't have a grown-up to open up to. Lorelai is happy because Rory's words means that she raised a kid that knows when her time is right and that will trust her in talking about it, Rory didn't tell about having sex with Dean bc she DIDN'T, she has a good kid and she has THE good kid: unlike what most people may have thought about rory since she was raised by a single young mom, even Lorelai may have doubt if she could do it, and in that moment she noticed that she has. I see that people may interpret it as a purity culture thing, but I just can't see it as being just that. Love your videos btw ❤

    • @rebeccassweetmusic4632
      @rebeccassweetmusic4632 Месяц назад

      Exactly! I don't understand people's irritation with Lorelai's statement because what parent wouldn't be proud to see their kids share advice with their friends about taking their time to figure things out? Especially if that friend doesn't feel like they can talk to their parents about it. I can't believe that what Lorelai said has a "purity culture" narrative too. Maybe her words could be phrased better, but I refuse to think that was the narrative. If anything, I view Lorelai saying that as her being proud that Rory is giving Paris the power to make her own choices and choose her own time. It's not anti-sex to go your own pace.

  • @brucesmith7481
    @brucesmith7481 8 месяцев назад

    No one's perfect. But Dean is always villainized for being what we all were at his age: insecure and inexperienced teenagers. He definitely made some bad choices, but twice Lorelei reminded Rory that Dean was an incredible guy who she completely mishandled, and Rory didn't correct her. Is judging him when he's at his worst and dismissing him when he's at his best a fair critique?

    • @sierrassanctuary
      @sierrassanctuary 7 месяцев назад

      the issue i hold though is that when he's at his best he's still unconsciously belittling. as the show started to make him less intelligent, because in the beginning he was shown to read and speak differently, by the time they rekindle their relationship and start going out while she's in yale, he doesn't show growth. he wouldn't even read her work, he barely understood her references, and was always resentful of her - and that's when it clicked - he had ALWAYS been resentful of her. that was what was behind the way he acted, those moments where he was at his worst were just slips of his true sentiments. there are many men who may get into relationship with women who have a spark, who ar the whole package, and in order to feel as though they have power in the dynamic recognizing their inferiority in comparison, they bring the woman down to "their level". the yelling, which was very concerning, and his dismissal of her passions rather, and then finally leaving because he admitted to himself that he'll never be part of that world was never because he wasn't good enough it was because he believed he wasn't, that was what was behind all of his behavior. being insecure is one thing, that's no sin - that's why jealousy is natural and envy is vile, I felt it became clear that in his own way he was envious

    Great video, but.. around the start of S4 you say Rory didn't feel like what she did with Dean was wrong, because she feels like its special and she didn't regret it. Well, at this point, that letter didn't happen yet. She 'only' could've feel bad about the whole, messed up Dean-Jess situation. But, your point still stands. And sidenote, I really like your voice :)

    In the one episode where there was a party for Rory at her grandparents' house and she is hanging out with Logan when she was supposed to go out with Dean that's the moment he realizes he's never going to fit into her social c;ass now that she's attending Yale. Richard and Emily would grill him about his future plans for college at Friday nigh dinners and always talked to him in a very rude way. When Dean built the car for Rory and Richard refused to let her drive it until it was checked out at Gypsy;s is another example of how the family never thought he was a suitable match for Rory who was in a higher social class than Dean. Whenever Rory had to do school related things lke habitat for humanity and helping build a house to help her get into Harved he would literally throw a tantrum.

    • @sierrassanctuary
      @sierrassanctuary 7 месяцев назад

      exactly, he was treated like crap in lots of ways that people could have only socially gotten away with in their particular "class", it was the elitism, and considering all the different jobs Dean worked he had every reason to gradually develop a negative perspective of people from that class, but what I found ironic always was that everything he could not stand about that life was always the foundation of who Rory was, having been raised by someone who maintains that identity of someone who descended from wealth rather than a true "started from nothing" concept. he was becoming a hindrance and I 100% believe he would have been happier if Rory had given up while she was dating him, while we got to see Logan be upset somewhat, and jess be VERY upset. Interesting huh

I'd never seen someone on screen who matched my intensity and insecurities so well. I was never as mean, oblivious, or cartoon-ish as Paris, but Paris did help me laugh at myself and see why other people didn't understand me. I definitely think they could have handled things more sensitively in some cases, but for the most part, Paris is funny to me. Take that for what it's worth, I suppose.

    I feel like Dean had a right to be angry with Rory when she kept gaslighting him when Jess came around. She said that she didn’t like Jess but Dean could tell that she did like him and instead of just breaking up with Dean she kept manipulating them both. She should have broken up with Dean when she had kissed Jess at Sookies wedding or when she had visited Jess in New York. When it came to Chris I didn’t feel bad for him. He could have had a relationship with Rory at anytime and he chose not to. Even when he kept saying I want to have a relationship with my daughter he never tried.
