Gosto de ver essa época do início dos anos 2000 como uma era de transição, uma era que conectou o passado com os novos avanços do futuro. São tempos que provavelmente ficarão marcados na memória de quem viveu a época.

I have been in love with Japan since the age of 14 (35 now), and even though Japan remains a country with people that still hold their values (unlike Western civilization) I feel that those were the last ''normal'' years. Unfortunately, even in Japan there has been such a huge influx of youtubers , influencers etc. which do have a negative impact on Japanese society in many ways. I am just glad I can enjoy a country I love so much through your videos, taken during better times.. Thank you very much!!

Camcorder quality was JUST this good in 2005. The SONY FX-1 had just been released as their flagship prosumer model. The Japanese were using 1080 pro cameras for broadcast for 2 or 3 years but for consumer use this was the first couple of months.

I ordered it from Ebay and I was in Japan learning how to use it a week later; very much on the job training although it was a holiday. I met a pro production team in Takayama one night and they were very interested in it. Three years later I went back with a machine much smaller, higher resolution, 5.1 surround sound (a clever mic) and a hard drive instead of tape cassette storage system. The march of technology.

This atmosphere is similar to what I remember, when I lived in Japan for a year in '08-'09. Smart phones were on the horizon, and iPhones had either not yet quite arrived, or were extremely uncommon. Myself and everyone else I knew had some sort of flip phone, but they were years ahead of anything that I had or seen in the states at the time. Everything was still uniquely Japanese tech wise, this was the era before google maps/earth and many of the translation apps were widely available, so you used Japanese map services and denshi jisho (eletronic dictionaries). Facebook was for foreigners, mixi was where you went to have a online profile back then, though you'd be blameless if you just exchanged digital 'meishi' or contact card information with your friends instead. Come to think of it, this might have been the last year or so where separate devices (Camera, dictionaries, phone, etc) were commonly carried by many HS and college aged people. It definitely was a great time to be there, after the Tohouku Earthquake in 2011, a lot of things definitely changed. Based on things I've read, it had nearly the same societal changes that the 1995 Tokyo Subway Gas attacks and the Kobe Earthquake (the same year, 1995) had on Japan, but on a greater level with the Fukushima reactor issues. A friend had even said that a dormant volcano that he and I with some friends visited had become active with seismic activity again and could no longer be safely approached as we had once done.

    原宿ではないけど、隣の渋谷にはまだSHIBUYA-AXがあったんだよな。SNSもmixiくらいで。USBメモリも手軽に買える価格が128とか256MB(GBの間違いではない)だった。
