So glad that you enjoyed this idea. I love trying to use my decorative stitches often!
Great ideas to use some of the decorative stitches on our machines. I don't utilize them like I should. On some thread painting collages, I have and really enjoyed using them.
Linda You are an outstanding teacher, keep showing us new ideas on the Solaris.
Thank you for the feedback. Have you checked out my Facebook lives? I have done several with the Solaris. Here is the link to my page: facebook.com/LindaBrattenCreations/
Thank you for the lesson and the free pattern. This looks like fun project to try.
You are so welcome!
I use to do thesen i also would use a little marker on moline love these work your so good THANK FOR DOING THESE I REMMBER THE WORK VERY WELL NOW GOING TO MAKE SOM AMEN GOG BLESS
Glad you enjoy the process!
YES IT IS
Title lead me to believe I'd learn more about fabric repeats. Nope. Instead, it's a video on fabric selection for promoting your quilt blocks. 🤷♀️
I tried to make it clear in the description that the video was designed for my class participants. I was encouraged to leave it posted so they could refer back to it.
Sorry about the audio. It was recorded live on Facebook and it seems that my audio can be hit and miss with them.
Very interesting! Couldn't follow because the audio is fuzzy.
Thank you! I think metallic thread would be fun. I would slow your speed down to the lowest setting and use a 90 or 100 needle with all the layers. I would also look at the different types of organza. Some have a metallic sparkle to them.
How cool is this? Can you use metallic threads for the design quilting in the heart? This is wonderful! Thank-you!❤
I love this!
Thank you!
By using Palette, you will have more fill and line options to choose from!
Beautiful! I am going to create it in Pallette 11 .
Great tip using wax paper! Painters tape is amazing and so helpful to use. Thank you Linda!❤️
Thank you will definitely give it a try👏👏👏
Hope you enjoy the possibilities!
Great tips.
Thank you!
❤ what machine are you using ?
This is the Baby Lock Solaris.
I just started working with a walking foot. Nothing compares. I'm going to use it for EVERYTHING from now on.
I love using mine. It has a multiple of uses!
Hi. Is this washable?
I believe that it would depend on a couple of things. First was the fabric pre-washed to remove sizing, etc., Was the fabric 100% cotton? Did the pigment get into the fibers with friction or heat? How is it being laundered? Variables like water type, detergent, water temperature, agitation, etc., will make a difference . I would recommend testing it. I have dresser scarf from the 1930-40's and while it looks pastel, it still has color. However, it was probably not laundered much. Testing on the same fabric will give you the best answers.
Thanks a lot for your prompt reply@@LindaBrattenCreations
Thanks for sharing! Inspiring to all!❤️
Thank you. Such amazing quilts!!!
I agree!
Do you have a video on how you made the sandwich block and how you did the quilting on the block of the pumpkin? I would love to try this technique.
This is so beautiful and fun to make!! Thank you
So glad you enjoyed it!
Have never used Elmer’s school glue for bindings. Will need to try this!
Be sure to dry it with an iron before stitching it down.
Nice hack with wax paper. I do the same with tissue paper for chiffon organza any thin fabric I don’t want caught up into the feed dogs. With leather I adjust stitch to 3 or 3.5 and decrease tension as well. Thanks for sharing
Cheap hacks, I love this !
Thanks!
Yeah, I tried to use tissue paper and spent 15 minutes picking all the paper out of my stitches. I don't think I am looking forward to the next time.
Remember to lengthen your stitches. Most home dec fabrics can be sewn at a length of 3.
Also, it needs to be the paper the vinyl was wrapped in when you purchased it. Tissue paper for gifts is not the same and it creates a lot of lint.
@@LindaBrattenCreations Creations Nice that you responded, thank you. I am grateful for advice. I haven't tried the vinyl yet, but the nightmare of tissue was a zig zag stitch on knit. I did buy enough vinyl to practice. Have a great night. Sincerely, Annette
@@LindaBrattenCreations Thanks, I normally keep at 4. So I will be happy to change.
Next time for the knit, you may want to try a water soluble stabilizer (if the knit can be in water). When you are done stitching remove as much excess stabilizer by cutting or tearing. Then a damp cloth or laundering will remove the rest. I find the extra cost is worth the time saved.
The quilt is absolutly beautiful.
I have appreciated since taking your craftsy class how you make FMQ easy by comparing it to cursive witing. Thank you!
Thank you!
Nice video, just subbed. You could use PromoSM to help grow your channel.
Awesome thank you!! Love this hack I'm going to try on my faux leather dress!!
Thanks for the feedback! Wishing you success on your sewing adventures.
Do you change the needle?? Or its a standard needle?
Sorry just saw your question. I was using a 16 topstitch needle. If the vinyl is really thick I would try a leather needle. Hope this helps.
👍🏻🇸🇦💖.
Hi Linda have you ever had the problem off seeing fleece together and getting slipped stitches real bad.. Zigzag longest stitch and widest it will zigzag a little then jumps too a straight stitch and might start zigzagging again and then back to straight stitch it's maddening I don't understand why? I've tried butcher paper and tissue on top still the same
Hi Margie, you may need to use a walking foot or a differential feed foot to feed the fabric easily. Also your presser foot may have to be adjusted for the thicknesses of the fabric. Are you using a ballpoint needle? That may solve the issue. Then I would use strips of water soluble stabilizer on the top and bottom. You can get an adhesive water soluble stabilizer if it is slipping. I would also sew a bit slower. Hope this helps you sew your project.
Ok.... I'm a guy and I can see a bit. I restore old tractors and gocarts and need to make seat covers. I have issues with needles and stitching distance I think. On a Brother machine, how far should the spaces be? Special needles? Thicker thread? What kind of thread? Nothing real fancy, just sturdy. HELP. I'll watch for a reply or tell me another tutorial please. Garry. Gnpcool@yahoo.com
Hi Garry, Brother makes lots of machines, you will be more successful with a heavy duty or industrial machine because of the weight of the fabric. A lower quality machine will give you more issues. Use a longer stitch, 3+ . I would recommend a leather needle or a topstitch/jean needle for the machine. I would test the settings, threads and needles you are going to use. Be sure to sew at an even pace, no need to sew fast. I hope this helps you since I am speaking in general terms not knowing all your circumstances. Best wishes with your creating!-Linda
Please see my reply, evidently I commented.
@@LindaBrattenCreations ty. That was a big help
This was amazing tips, thank you very much for posting.
Thank you for the tip. A video for the Bible cover in vinyl ?
Brilliant! This came jut in time for me, thanks!
Thank you for your input. Any videos on how to make a Bible cover? I've used WD40 and spreaded on the clear vinyl. And it works.
I don't have one at this time. I do use my serger and the differential feed on it helps tremendously. I also use the tissue paper the vinyl is wrapped in. Cut it in strips and sew over it.

Really enjoyed the tips. When I am making leather or vinyl bags I used a teflon 18"x18" square and 2 way stickies tape to hold it down with needle area cut out. Glides through
Great tips! Thank you!
This is great, thank you. Do you recommend some kind of non stick sheet for the surface of the machine to facilitate free motion quilting?
@@lindabratten7029 I'll be sure to get one for my next baby quilt. Thanks.
It will be easier if you use a teflon foot only a few dollars on ebay.
True, but I was hoping to help those who are in a pinch and trying to finish their projects. Thanks for the suggestions!
Brother needs to make a teflon plate to replace metal plate when sewing vinyl and leather.
Yes please!!!
You can use the snappy hair barrettes for holding vinyl or faux leather layers together. They have them on amazon with smooth edges.
