A brilliant two days of steam, music and motorcycles as part of the Tees Cottage Pumping Station Open Weekend in June 24. Newby Hall Miniature Railway June 24

A peaceful miniature railway journey through some gorgeous North Yorkshire countryside at Newby Hall Miniature Railway where I am a volunteer driver. This is the first train of the day and it is used to check the locomotive, coaches, signalling and track are in good and safe working order before any passengers can board. Peter is the driver today.

I took a trip to Leyland Society Of Model Engineers on Saturday 1st of June to see the Sweet Pea Rally and have a ride on the miniature railway. David Reed took his Sweet Pea on Sunday and took some video of his locomotive in action. Bumping into Matt Chivers (RUclips: Matt Chivers, That Guy Who Builds Steam Engines, @MattChiversWorkshop) was an added bonus. Check out his channel.

The Tees Cottage Miniature Railway during the open weekend for the Tees Cottage Pumping Station on the 18th and 19th of May 2024. It was surprisingly quiet weekend as far as numbers of visitors are concerned. We are hoping the one on 22nd and 23rd of June will be better attended. There will be lots classic motorcycles on display.

Hi and thanks for subscribing! I don’t know of any clubs that do a driver experience day. You could try searching for model engineering societies or miniature railways near to you. Some clubs may do it when they have club days, where there are no members of the public wanting a train ride.

There is something incongruous about a man sitting astride a miniature steam engine and being transported round a captive layout. However, consideration of the hours of work and dedication to the place, the standards achieved gives them the right to sit astride miniature steam engines and be transported round a captive layout. And good luck to them!
