2023: TOP FILMS OF THE YEAR
Making up for lost time, I give some mini reviews of popular movies from last year and give my Top 10. This video took a lot longer than anticipated so I closed this out by finally acknowledging I'm not going to make movie critique videos anymore. This is partly because going to see movies sucks now, but there are other influencing factors. I am grateful for everyone who's watched my content over the past 4 years. I'm going to shift my focus of this channel to bigger projects - such as the KOTOR retrospective and whatever comes next.

    T3 might be unliked but he's actually the tankiest character in the entire game. He is capable of soloing most of the content by himself, even on Hard. Its pretty ridiculous how crazy he is with a proper kit. (Also he can't be stunned by the Sith Governor, or force powers in general, and is fully capable of beating him alone at that point. Again... Pretty wild)

      @B-26354 15 дней назад

      @ArthurAugustyn That would also be the reason it is in the game. Every product catering to a small minority of a population is a relatively recent trend which has in my humble opinion stifles character development and writing, it isn't at all realistic that a character be 100% bisexual yet this is the exact shallow writing we saw with the likes of Starfield where every companion would form a relationship with the player no matter the gender - personally I think it would be better if during character creation you could enable a same sex trait as was possible in Fallout New Vegas (which worked really well.) I'm not at all saying don't cater to minorities, I'm suggesting the blanket model you're proposing comes at the cost of more rounded, well written characters as it forces a reality the vast majority of an audience cannot relate to.

      @@B-26354 I think you're jumping to conclusions on what I think or my preferences for the media I enjoy. I didn't propose anything. The game assigns an assumption about your character. There's a word for that assumption and that's the word I used. FWIW, that comment I made isn't even true. Other commenters reminded me you can have a non-hetero relationship. I just forgot about it. I didn't play Starfield, but I did play Baldur's Gate 3 and I thought it was stupid every single party member is open to having a sexual relationship with the main character.

    • @B-26354
      @B-26354 15 дней назад

      @ArthurAugustyn Right. I'll agree with your final point there seems to be an over emphasis on romantic relationships within modern RPGs, this is likely a product of bioware design thanks mainly to Mass Effect. This also stifles characterisation as it makes every party member a potential romance character which in my opinion is silly.

    I will say that for the main character, you don't have to have a strength based build since lightsabers also use Dex for their attack rolls (if Dex is higher than Str) damage modifiers are strength based but (imo) it's more important to hit more than higher damage so I'd reverse add more into Dex and either make strength a 10 at the start or 12 if you want a little extra melee damage at levels 1-4. All of the stats are important in their own ways but for a balanced Scout (maybe even scoundrel) build, I'd have; Strength - 10 Dexterity - 14 Constitution - 12 Intelligence - 12 Wisdom - 14 Charisma - 14 If you don't care as much about HP because you're avoiding combat, finding creative solutions like mines or letting your party do 90% of the work since you're saving levels for post Taris (I didn't go past level 4) then use those 2 points to either put up your strength (if you want better damage) or Charisma/Wisdom. Intelligence is an easy dump stat too but i don't recommend it for this game unless you plan on bringing Mission, T3 or even a well invested HK-47 pretty much everywhere you go that isn't the forest floor of Kashyyk, the Tatooine desert, the Valley of the Dark Kings or half of Dantooine. Still, if you want to have it be no modifiers then add the 2 points i gave it anywhere you want I end up using more force based powers and don't pick a guardian build after Taris so that's why i add things to wisdom

    • @ArthurAugustyn
      @ArthurAugustyn 25 дней назад

      Lightsabers do use DEX, but they don't add to damage with DEX. Over the long term of the entire game this difference is minimal but it makes a big difference on Taris where most people bounce off. Since your melee weapons do - at best - 1-12 damage, getting an additional 3-4 points of damage per hit is a 25% increase in your damage output. Huge for the early game. Still pretty useful through Dantooine too. I do a more in-depth combat analysis in the next video, but I personally think there's only three stats: Strength, Dexterity, and Wisdom. You'll make more than a thousand rolls relating to those 3 attributes across the game whereas you can roll literally zero Intelligence or Charisma rolls. Constitution is kinda needed at 12 just so you're not so flimsy. It sounds like you prefer the force playstyle (as opposed to physical), but for people who don't understand things like saving throws or DCs the Guardian playstyle of getting a lot of strength and one-kit KOing things is a lot easier and more fun. Force playstyle is more fun when you're familiar with the game, but I tried making a build any random person could play pretty mindlessly.

    • @kaitlyngarner740
      @kaitlyngarner740 25 дней назад

      @@ArthurAugustyn I definitely see where you're coming from. When I first started playing, I was like 11 and I did balanced builds with three 14s and three 12s but this was before I understood the D&D system and KOTOR was my first RPG that didn't do a straight up leveling system with characters getting different stats based on either class/job or pre-determined stats (pokemon) or a progression system like the sphere grid in FFX. Now that I've played the game to completion at least 10 times and have experience in D&D, I understand the system a lot more. I never really like playing as a soldier/guardian because even though the skills are a bit underutilised and characters like Mission and T3 exist, I like having the ability to use these skills so that my character can do things to avoid or help with combat (like being able to set deadly mines in the tomb of naga sadow for the 2 Terentateks) Plus I like making myself feel more OP through force powers but also having limited but very strong combat proficiencies. I might try a more straight up melee strength build but it's going to feel weird 😆

    One thing I disagree with is the idea that kotor ending up being streamlined mechanically is a good thing. I mean I love kotor as it is, but a classic crpg style hard charisma or stealth run would do nothing but improve the game, my biggest issue with kotor one is just that. Like I guess an argument could be made that basically everyone who's playing this wants to be a Jedi, so a combat focused experience is just natural, otherwise how are you going to use all the fancy force moves and lightsaber and whatever, which makes sense, but I don't think its inherently the best choice. I'm replaying I now after years and stuff like manaan sticks in my mind. In a RPG more like the classics that would have had some amazing rp potential, like a neutral planet with both sith and republic with really heavy laws about combat, it was begging for a slow conversation and deduction focused experience but instead you're forced into two dungeons with basically no other choice, and then there's a dumb binary choice at the end that isn't really even a cool dark side choice its just "I'm too lazy to take slightly more time on this even if it benefits me". Kotor 1 and 2 are definitely my favorite star wars media but they're far from perfect.

If stealth dies, they get back up when the rancor combat breaks, so other than maybe letting Mission repeatedly die to the rancor, you can kill it using weapons. But they essentially get trapped there and over the course of generations, their population dwindles down to nothing. And over that time, they lose all knowledge of how to make their tech function and even how to speak well. By the time your PC gets there, there’s nothing left of them but droids and recordings of their devolution.

      @@ArthurAugustyn excellent, only discovered episode one a few weeks ago and I actually started a new playthrough because of it.

    Man, I already liked Trask Ulgo but 18.5 minutes in and I would fight my way through hell for this man.
