QA1 Rear suspension Install on 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Gm are there any other brands you’d recommend to do rear suspension on 72 cutlass ?
If you need parts for the clk let me know
Does the convertible have the trim clips that go into the sealant? Have you attempted that yet?
A ball joint press can be helpful when installing the upper bushings.
Any one know where to get a good deal on a radiator core support for a 69?
Any wiring kit for engine bay
How many miles has this CLK done?
How do you get the bearings off the axle and the locking ring I have a 66 Pontiac Grand Prix want to put new bearings in
I cut through the bearing most of the way with a cutting wheel on the grinder and then finished the last bit with a really sharp chisel and hammer
You forgot to replace the float chamber plug O-ring a major source of carb leaks
what bearings and seal did you use for your axles?
I used this kit www.ronsmachiningservice.net/installation-kits/general-motors/gm-8-5-o-axle/1968-1972-olds-cutlass-8-5-o-axle-elite-master-install-timken-bearing-kit-28-spline/
You just toasted half of the expensive equipment and big wigs with all their "it's hard and expensive to do...lol...ty sir...)
I like the way you set the pinon first in depth ! Way too go ! And a complete set up with axles install very good DIY ! THX
Do you still have the lincoln? Any major engine work or issues? How many miles?
Still have it. 120k miles. No major engine work or issues. Only engine work i have done is to change out plugs and coils around 100K
sounds good ya there's always air in the engine when it's been drained and you have to run it and shut it down a bunch of times for the air to work out if you just run it the engine will overheat but you were in a situation where you needed the engine to run in order for breakin. 72 oldsmobile supreme and 75 delta convert over here in dedham
was there a big difference with the 342s?
I'll have to let you know, I haven't driven it yet
@@borgtriestofixit ok i'm going to be using your video as a good tutorial for my rear end 72 supreme going with 3:55s from rons auto he's i nice guy i spoke with him to find out what gears et to buy for my 10 bolt
Yes,,,do remove the headlights....
Awesome 😎👍...
i'm from dedham where are you from?
Did you have any compression? This happened to me but I have no compression on all 4 cylinders.
Yes I had compression, so I got to it before the timing chain jumped and damaged the valves
What a beautiful colour for this classic in the making
What did you use for painting the diff and the frame
POR-15
Hello, what would make the rear end tuck in or stick out more on this type of rear end?
Do you know what aftermarket controll arms that will fit My 1969 oldsmobile delta 88?
fuel filter is a big nono.
Engine sounds nice. Were the rad fans not working?
They were, I think we just had a lot of air in the coolant system...seems to be working fine now
Sounds Great !! Congrats
Is there a video on how to remove the dash out of a 69 cutlass?
I don't have a good video of it, but I used this write up which covered everything I needed to do ... thisoldscar.wordpress.com/2014/02/17/removing-the-dashboard-on-a-1970-cutlass-supreme-convertible-part-i-of-ii/

Good job. This car has come a long way!
#1 BEST CAR VIDEO. YOU WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND !!!! I PRAY MANY GREAT BLESSINGS SENT YOUR WAY FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR SISTER. 👍
I LOVE THIS VIDEO AND UR VERY COOL FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR SISTER.
That's a beautiful car. Your sister is very lucky and blessed..my brother restores cars but won't even let me pay him to fix my Mercedes. I got mine for 10 Chochlate chip homemade cookies and a prayer. You're a Great Brother to take care of ur family this way.
Nice Work!
Do you have any videos on how you completed the firewall block off plate for the vintage air?
I don't, unfortunately. But i remember it wasn't too hard. When looking from the engine side of the firewall, I used the drill to make the two holes on the left upper and lower corners bigger as the instructions directed. Then the two bolts on the right hold in the block off plate, and the two bigger holes on the left hold the unit inside the car. To put the bolts in that hold the unit, I needed help - one person to hold up the unit inside the car and one person in the engine bay feeding in the bolts. Hope that helps!
I like the Zip tie idea to hold up the exhaust up temporarly.
Those extra holes in your rotor is for bolts you can screw in and pop them loose.
Many newer cars have the screw in calipers now days, at least on the back.:) That's how you also reset the emergency brake on the Sky and Solstice.
I was actually hoping to get my Chevelle a 12 bolt rearend (8.875) and change out the gears and turn it to a posi . But...the rear end i came accross, was already set up with a posi and 4.11 gear, so im happy with that. But, i skip the adventure of the set up, oh well, maybe someday.
I'm a pro-mechanic and have assisted other mechanics with this process. I myself have only done 1, and it was more of a side bearing replacement and shim set up. But all in all i think you did pretty good in setting it all up!
Prime is not your 1st coat. It needs to be sanded. 2nd it needs adhesion promoter. 3rd primer and 4th paint and clear coat.
I thought the axles had a C- clip that retained them inside the dif housing? Are some like that? 1979 gm 7.5, 10 bolt cultass supreme
I believe the chevy axles all have the c-clips, while the BOP(Buick-Olds-Pontiac) use the bolts behind the drums to retain them
not true..BOP can be C-Clips also...Depends on the application. Most passenger car axles are C-Clip starting in 1973.@@borgtriestofixit
Which kit or part number is it?
They came out pretty nice. I usually try not to bead or sand blast the inside of them. It's very hard to get all the abrasives out of the inside. especially with the baffles.
what did you use?
How did you clean up your frame? Rust wise
tolerance is .007-.009, i do .008, since eventually the gears will wear to the high side anyway.
seems like you did a lot of work for pinion depth. i measure the original pinion depth before removing it, then use the original shim that's on it and start from there. most of the time depth is off a couple thousand so i match it and done.
Great video
Great cars , durable and railable .
Why does everyone talk trash about mine then? I like that u said positive about these cars. I got my Mercedes 430CLK AMG for One Prayer. 10 Homemade Chochlate Chip Cookies😂. It runs but needs all the little extras. You gave encouragement with ur comment. Blew out all the negative comments from every one. Like oh , you got a Mercedes? I'm sorry.. obviously just from this video. I see I need a full new crew of people in my life🤙
Appreciate the video man. I’m currently rebuilding a 69 cutlass and this was very helpful.
Same here
the clk w208 is a classic and a beautiful convertible👍
