From a fragment of a copper artefact, found at the archaeological site of Vila Nova de São Pedro, Portugal
, dating from the Chalcolithic period, we reconstructed what could be part of a sickle blade and put it to the test. We started from malachite to copper.

      it's brittle, sure. but it's sharp. extremely useful for a variety of functions such as butchering, acutely cutting plants in certain ways, art of course

    It’s pretty easy to grasp for a modern human, once you see it in action with an explanation. You are literally forming a big edge and then knocking off parallel slabs of it so you have a sort of flat shard.

    I can’t believe Neanderthals could figure this out. I find the Levallois technique to be the most confusing knapping method.

    Beautiful video! It would be nice when you write down in every step what you are doing so one could understand easier. Maybe they had a wooden spoon or a piece of wood to press down the cheese to get the water out of it easier? Keep up the great work! <3
