      Im a big guy for me if I set up square with ball in correct position and move inch or so forward the turn it works a treat. Effectively the turn returns ball position to its original orientation with my shoulders centre of my chest. So simple I can’t think I’ve not thought of it before. Thanks !

      Hey there!! Thanks for the watch and the question! Yes it does. By turning your torso slightly behind the ball, it sets your shoulder(s) parallel to the target line. When you don’t do this, more times than not, you will be setting up to the ball with your shoulders aimed to the left, or open, to the target line (Right handed player). This produces a pull, or, with an open face, a slice. So, yes, it will help you strike your irons better as well!

    More and more pro's are lifting their left heel in the backswing. Ever since Vardon to Nicklas it was usual to lift the left heel in the backswing. Why don't you mention this

    • @tonymcmullin9047
      @tonymcmullin9047 Месяц назад

      Great question!! Thanks for the watch, and the comment. First, You are correct in that observation, but this video is for the foot work pertaining to the forward swing. Your question involves the take away. But I would like to add that we are very careful about encouraging the “lead heel lift” move in the take away for the reason(s) that most amateur golfers don’t A) get enough weight to their lead side before impact, and, B) rotate their bodies correctly to use the ground forces correctly on the lead side. For those reasons, most amateur golfers would benefit more from keeping the left heel closer to the ground in the take away, if they lift it at all.

    Please don’t ask for likes and subs at the beginning. If anything back at the end. But just put a graphic for likes and subs. Think from viewers perspective we don’t want to be told to like or sub blatantly. Many golf guys have gotten away from asking. It goes without saying. But not saying it makes videos more digestible. Even if it’s a quick ask. It gets old. Good work though. I really liked how you explained this. We learn a lot about closing the feet of dropping the right foot back. But I like this thought.

    Great video and explanation. Same advice for fairway woods and driver? Is there a tip to ensure exiting at 12 O’ clock? I seem to fall a touch short and exit at 11.45 or so resulting in a hook. Not sure if it’s due to excessive body turn.

    • @tonymcmullin9047
      @tonymcmullin9047 3 месяца назад

      Without seeing you swing, I’d say make sure you are turning all the way through the swing, and not letting your hands take over. If your body stops, or even slows down, the club head will pass you, closing the face, and exiting early producing a hook. The idea of 6:00 to 12:00 is premised on the idea of continuous body turn through the swing. Try the “club to the belly” connection drill in the video for the feel of this. Thanks for the watch, the question, and the encouragement in kind words!!😊

      Here's a feel for you that helps me when I can remember to do it. From the point of around your hands getting to the right thigh on the downswing, get the head of the club ahead of your hands and keep your hands behind the ball. if you do it too much, you'll hit it left which is good. adjust how much the head gets in front and your hands stay behind at you'll find the sweet spot. Keeping your right shoulder as close to your right foot will also help as the the video explains.

    Hi. Very simple and easy to follow . How does one get feels for pushing left hip back ?

    • @tonymcmullin9047
      @tonymcmullin9047 6 месяцев назад

      Hey there!! Thanks for watching and your question!! To feel the left hip pushing back, you could first start by simply walking backwards. You would feel the opposite in your feet of walking forward (heel to toe). In walking backwards you would feel the opposite (toe to heel). This is how you would feel “pushing back” the lead hip. This is also why your “connection to the ground” is so important to your golf swing. You have to have a good connection to the ground to promote things like Balance, Rotation, and the ability to push the lead hip back.

    • @Rd-bi7vr

    • @tonymcmullin9047
      @tonymcmullin9047 6 месяцев назад

      Good Morning!! Thanks For watching and your question!! Not so much a drill as it is a “feel”. To keep your torso rotating, and avoid stopping to let the arms “outrace your turn” to the ball, You want to get your belt buckle past the ball before the club hits it. You can also focus on making a more ‘full turn” through the ball, getting your right (trail) shoulder all the way to the target in your finish. These couple of “feels” present a very different focus on your turn. Allowing it to continue, maintaining the speed of your Torso “through” the ball instead of just “at the ball”.

    The first thing every human does when walking or running and about to turn one way or the other the eyes lead. ie eyes look in the direction of the turn before the body turns. Perhaps it is evolutionary way to protect ourselves from walking or running into trouble. So the first thing to do before the BS begins is to look with our eyes in the direction of the BS. ie right hand swingers look to their right, then begin the BS. There are physiological consequences to looking before the BS, that facilitate the golf "turn"

      @tonymcmullin9047 6 месяцев назад

      Good Morning!! Thanks for watching and your comment!! I see a lot of players “casting” in their move down so you’re definitely not alone there. The drill will definitely help! But as you practice, keep the thought in your mind that we hit the ball at the BOTTOM of the swing, not from the top of the swing. You want all of your speed where the ball is. Work with that thought in mind, (and maybe a little lighter grip pressure), and you should start to see some better results!

  • @timallen1262

    Enjoyed your video, just wondering, what is a good way to learn how to decrease one’s grip pressure? I believe I have a too tight of grip pressure and would like to learn to decrease it. TIA!!

    • @tonymcmullin9047
      @tonymcmullin9047 6 месяцев назад

      Good Morning!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting the video!! A Good way to decrease your grip pressure is to first realize what causes you to grip it so tight. Generally, that would be trying to swing too hard and too fast. Trying to hit “at” the ball rather than “through” the ball. So, lighten your grip pressure to about a 4 on a scale of 1-10, make some swings that have a smoother change in direction at the top. Listen to where the “whoosh” begins and ends at the bottom half of your swing. You want that “whoosh” to begin slightly before impact, and still hear it after the impact point. That means you are maintaining that speed “through” the ball. You will also feel the “release”of the club, adding speed while squaring the face to your target. Also, check out the video I posted a few weeks back on grip pressure on the channel. That’ll help you as well.

It's worse with driver and 3 wood, but it happens with irons at times. I'll probably schedule another lesson but thought your viewer might have the same issue.

    Well, pressing the hand down on the club, radial deviation etc. has to be the entire opposite to what should happen in the takeaway. The extensors in the left hand should extend in the takeaway. This creates the swing arc.

    I just have started watching your videos and have enjoyed your tips. I’m a 68 year old male and struggle with balance and transferring my weight to the lead side before contact. I hit a lot of fat shots. Any advice or drill you could give for an older guy would be appreciated. TIA!!

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! Absolutely. A drill that I give to my students to help with transition and transfer of weight is: Stand in your golf stance with feet together, As you swing the club back in the takeaway, Step towards the target with your lead foot (step to a normal set-up width) while taking the club back, and before you get to the top of your backswing. As you start your downswing you will already have weight repositioned on the lead foot,and that will help you “shallow” the club, producing less fat shots.

    Great tip. Once you understand that hip turn the ball striking gets so much better!👍

    I would like to see a video on transition and the downswing

      Thanks for watching!! 3 weeks ago we posted “how to properly shift in the down swing”. We talked about working into the transition from take away to the downswing. See if that answers your questions, and if it doesn’t,let us know specifically how we can help.

    What is radial deviation to the top of the back swing

    • @tonymcmullin2928
      @tonymcmullin2928 7 месяцев назад

      Radial Deviation is the action of the wrists hinging up in the take away. This action also sets the club on plane and assists in getting the club to the top of your swing.

    Beyond the takeaway, getting to the top is it all the turn or are the wrists lifting the club

    • @tonymcmullin2928
      @tonymcmullin2928 7 месяцев назад

      It is a combination of the torso turning away from the target, the wrists hinging up, and the arms working their way up to the top as the torso/shoulders turn.
