Shadow was originally created by Professor Gerald Robotnik in order to cure his granddaughter maria's illness but despite her condition she enjoyed spending time with shadow as her best friend. Maria she's just too precious for this world I mean she is such a good person, she has a good nature of kindness, a heart of gold, and a pure soul. It is so devastating that during the raid on the ark maria got shot by one of the G.U.N. soldiers when she is trying to escape with shadow. She is so selfless that she sacrifice herself to save shadow's life, now that's a true good friend and it's so heartbreaking at the same time. Because for shadow he lost his only friend, her death haunted him ever since, After 50 years later of being in cryostasis he is driven by rage, hatred, & sadness, he hated humanity for taking maria away from him. You know maria is more than shadow's best friend she is a hero and a voice of reason. He is lost without her. Even though she never got her chance to go back to earth at least she had a good time being with shadow during their time aboard the ark. And this song is so beautiful and sad I love this song "My Immortal" by Evanescence & Amy Lee. Even though maria is gone but her spirit lives on and she will always be with shadow even from above the stars. She is a beautiful angel, she will always be in our hearts.
