The frustration of the players in the first half definitely came through on the broadcast. It was sad to see that negativity and also frustrating that no one tried to rally the team. Unfortunately, there aren't any big personalities in the Nix this season to provide natural leadership. The Nix also seemed constantly outnumbered, out of position, or isolated, which suggests that Temple got the formation wrong. For example, Elliot was rarely brought into the play by her teammates and had little impact on the game. Of course, that's probably on Elliot too to some extent. The impact of Kate Taylor's absence has been clear. Few players (and none, within the the current squad except Whinham) have the same ability to receive, turn, and carry the ball or find the right pass. Hopefully, Alivia Kelly can go into the back-line and allow Maya McCutcheon to fill the DM role and provide the missing link.

Great episode guys! I share the concerns about squad depth - for example, we were spoilt last year with Edwards as a back-up GK for Foster (for most of the season at least), but Danieli doesn't give me the same confidence. I'm also hoping Whinham can pick up where she left off, but wonder if she'll be as effective without Fraser to link with? I'd like to see McMeeken find some consistency - she's a veteran (despite her age) and often excellent, but still plays like an academy player at times (she was badly exposed in the away game against Melb City last season). And yes, the away games hoodoo - if we can break that, anything is possible!

My picks: • Visa players to re-sign: Cox, Speckmaier, Foster. • Off-contract local players to re-sign: Main, Taylor, Whinham (Whinham upped her intensity this season, and few players have her ability to receive-turn-pass while evading tackles). • Season highlight: Bri Edwards' penalty save - a huge moment after Riley's red card. • Season lowlight: Fraser's shot on goal from the 2nd-half re-start vs Brisbane - it was disrespectful and handed possession to Brisbane from which they scored their winning goal. • Favourite non-Nix player: Emily Gielnik (Melbourne Victory) - a phenomenal athlete and intelligent player.

It's not a 'kit', but my current Nix favourite is the yellow/black walk-out t-shirt with the geometric design.

How good would it be for a Hailey update… She comes across as a great team member and has been a big part of the improved season. It would be super interested on how she has found her time at the Phoenix and in the A League…
