lonewolfhf is a channel dedicated to travel and radios. I have an amateur radio licence and enjoy taking myself out into the countryside in my free time and setting up radios, communicating with as many people as possible and lately recording my antics. Not every trip is successful but no matter what I do try to enjoy myself, its early days for the channel but I'm hoping you will appreciate the effort I put in.
My interest in radios began in the mid 80's with CB radio and walkie talkies, from there I joined the Armed Forces and worked in Radar then Combat Net Radio, eventually picked up my ham licence somewhere along the way.
My callsign is 2E0HKZ
I enjoy a modern take on radio ops and use data modes just as often as I do the mike, I think its important to embrace all aspects of the hobby so I'm trying to learn morse code with the LICW.

@@lonewolfhamradio keep up the good Work
So has anyone had a problem like mine ? Activity on the waterfall so the soundcard was working, but no decodes? Was it my time was too far off, I don’t think so because I usually get decodes before I synch my time. Let me know your thoughts and experiences.
Great video Ed. I love playing radio on the banks of the Humber. Better luck next time. Did you find the end cap?
@@bigpatlives in the bottom of my bag as always!
Wrong settings, wrong modulation, wrong speed
What settings do you have? These ones work for me 🙂
very good antenna homemade 😗
Thanks for the video! Our settings were pretty much the same. I concluded that I had some corrupt files buried deep within VarAC and VaraHF. Interestingly I first attempted an Uninstall and reinstall but that didn’t work, so I assumed it was a setting somewhere. I spent hours and found that my settings were all fine. Out of desperation, I attempted another Uninstall, but noticed that there were still several Vara files still on my C drive. I deleted all of them and then did a reinstall and it’s working now. Just curious - what are your actual Radio Settings on the 710? Thanks for the video!
These are my radio settings. ruclips.net/user/shorts3R-YN2w95Ww?feature=share
Any advice for not being able to get my FT710 connected to any vara hf or VARAC stations? I’m out of ideas - seems like my radio transmits and functions the same as you, but I’ve never had any luck. Any other hidden FT710 settings within the radio menus?
Does VARAC connect to your 710, does it change freq etc under cat control?
@ Yes - it appears that all my cat controls are configured properly. I’ve been all over the FT710 Facebook page, the vara page, and various Reddit forums. From all we can tell, the cat control works normally. I send a connect signal (hear the tones go out, see my power out, SWR, ALC, etc). I can hear other conversations and data going over Vara C and VARA HF but I have yet to connect to anything or successfully broadcast a beacon,. I’ve made a couple CW contacts, FT8/wsjtx is no problem, and JS8 call are all just fine. But for some unknown reason, the FT710 and Vara are absolutely not working together.
Hi I have made a video of my settings, not sure if they are anything different to what you have done already, but its here if you need it. ruclips.net/video/wbNCK0pHkjE/видео.html
Thank you very much for posting your video!! Can we ask - what distances from your QTH are you finding the contacts are with the Delta loop? Thanks!

Great location to play radio from. I was expecting a jump scare at the end tho.

It does, hoped to see one at Newark HamFest but the Yaesu stand didn’t have one 😢

what is it called? who makes it? specs?
It is unbranded, I have put the specs in the description, so far its doing ok, happily runs wsjtx, log4om gridtracker etc. Thanks for watching :)
Perfect for field ops. I got lucky and a longtime friend recently gave me a Microsoft Surface with keyboard. It has become my official field comms machine.

Hey one useful Tip from me...I run the Radiator Wire thru the Eye Lead and then zip tighten it with Cable Zip Ties or a stainless Wire Clamps. Everything else you did is fine. What is the Ratio of the Transformer / Balun you using? 73 de Uncle Günter 💯🙋♂

Hi Gunter, I made the same comment to myself just b4 seeing yrs here but regardless his antenna is working well, and is a gd solution for his space n place challenge!!
Very beautiful. One effective Antenna that is not asking for too much of Space nor much of Height to perform well.
@@DK5ONV many thanks for watching
ive been using a 40m delta loop as an upside down with the 4;15ft off ground for 25 years but my latest one all home built mind you i tuned the twin 240/43 's with an analizer and found that at a full wave for 40 will work on 80m i use efhw for 40-10 @22m of wire will also do 80-10 but u have to tune the balun its not great on 80m ssb but i worked china on both at 10w on ft8 have fun try a mag loop too i built an 160-80m mag loop it works have fum Dylan m0dsy.
@@dbailey3024 I’ve often wondered how well it would do vertically
Ok as upside down triangle fed at the bottom just off gnd it has a 3db gain over a dipole and if u tune the balun with a analizer it will do 75m at about a 45% loss but great on ft8 the wark bands will need an internal atu to bring them inline but I tried a lot of antennas over the years but I allways go back to my delta as it works so well I talked to south caraliner us every day for the month I’ve done nz china ect I use a tuned efhw for portable so u can’t beat a resonant antenna the delta doesn’t need to be perfect triangle so will it work for u? U will have to experiment which is fun ,you won’t know until u try drop me an email and I’ll send you a link for how to make it better than a bought one and lighter /more invisible too

Great 👍🏻 thanks for giving this 12 month review, i’ve used it on our facebook page for others to see your honest review of the delta loop 👍🏻
Nice summary Ed. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Awesome
Do you like this instruction format?
My X6100 connects to wifi fine, but for the life of me I can't get WFview to work properly. Most of the time it just completely fails to connect to the radio and on the rare occasions it does, it's unstable and not usable in any way. The VFO frequency may match or I get a broken snippet of audio playing from the computer, but nothing useful or consistent. FWIW, it behaves the same way via USB/serial port. I know the wifi is connected as I can update the clock via NIST. I can also connect to the radio fine with a terminal, browse the directory structure, etc. Using the latest firmware I'm aware of, App v1.1.7, Base v1.1.6. I rather like the radio, buggy and quirky as it is, but some things just flat out don't work. Glad I bought it cheap! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Tnx es 73.
I gave up on wfview it wasn’t something I needed to use
Cheers and beers! Tactical beer coozy was my guess but your use is a near perfect fit!
Credit goes to David King from the Xiegu X6100 UK Users group for this original idea.
Drain holes in the bottom mean be careful in the rain. Otherwise, you did give me an idea for a different radio. Very good.
I'm all about the ideas, this one came from a facebook group and I thought it was worth sharing.
I just made the same discovery. It is a water bottle carrier. But works great for the x6100. I just need to find a efhw that will fit the pocket. Excellent presentation.

Windy enough for a kite to lift your dipole and feed line?
