My name is Simon and I bought a 1992 Z32 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo from a bloke in Skeggy that "just needs an MOT" with the intention of fitting a body-kit, exhaust and wheels and calling it done - Yeah right!
That didn't happen it turned into a project car build and money pit.

Couple of jobs to get my Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo back on the road including reattaching the drivers side wastegate actuator to the turbo solenoid and sealing a leaky exhaust flange.

I've just refitted the transmission on my Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo and whilst the transmission was out I fitted some Z1 2.5 Inch downpipes. So in this video I'm refilling the transmission fluid and modifying the exhaust to fit the new downpipes.

Still on my quest to replace the rear main seal on my Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo I remove the clutch and pressure plate in a non conventional manor. Then as the fly wheel bolts are too tight I removed the down pipes and fitted Z1 2.5 inch downpipes and new O2 sensors. I then revisited and successfully removed the flywheel with a newly purchased Lidl Parkside Impact Wrench.

OMFG My eyes were bleeding watching that seal being removed and then the absolute hack job of putting it in the car. Hammering the seal on the rough concrete FFS. Using an angle grinder to remove the seal FFS - Multiple facepalms. You put the rubber half seal in with the aluminium bracket, and THEN fit the crank seal afterwards. I'm betting the whole thing leaks again in no time.
Thank you for your feedback. Firstly I'm no mechanic so I'm learning on the job. Also I'm doing this with basic tools. The angle grinder was only used to cut up the metal insert part of the old seal which was being scrapped anyway. Yes there are probably more "sensible" tools to cut this, but it's what I had. Yes there is the risk of nipping the retainer, but a new retainer is 30USD so a risk I took. I was only hammering the metal of the seal into place on the concrete surface with an extension bar. It didn't require much force, probably because it was a hot day and the rubber was more soft. Every other video I've watched for research purposes the seal has been pre fitted to the retainer before fitting to the car. Probably so you're not hammering the seal around the end of the crank. Also you can actually buy the retainer with the seal pre installed. I imagine you could install the seal, half moon and retainer in various orders, but the end result is all three are installed. Hence the term "more than one way to skin a cat" ( don't tell my cat though as he won't be happy).
You have earned my respect for doing these jobs on the floor. I wouldn't dare attempt these kinds of jobs without a ramp

You too sir. Have to say I've met quite a few Automotive youtubers (also met Mat Armstrong, Ciro, Tavarish, Ben EvilGT, Adam C and Schmee ) and all are proper down to earth. I'd say the reason for that is RUclips is about normal people from normal backgrounds given the opportunity to make content and publish it to the world. TV is done.

Hi mate, well done. Did you mark the position of the propshaft bolts before removal, as that would prevent any vibration going back in the same position.

You get to the O2 sensors by putting the car on a lift. Just like any car, working on it is as a PITA as you make it. Just one nut and bolt at a time as I've eloquently been told.
If the car has been modified tastefully. They do sell well

Thank you. I was looking at the SGS 3T but when I went to order it was out of stock. However I don't need 3T for the car. I just liked the idea of over compensating. I imagine alot of then are the same design anyway and badged up I believe in America there was a lawsuit because a hardware store bought the same design from China as Snap-on and they weren't very happy they were selling it for a fraction of the price.
What would need to be done to make the 300zx ulez complainant
I believe you would need to get a certificate of compliance from Nissan to say that it meets the required EU emissions and then apply to ULEZ with said certificate. However this video is regarding removing a fuel tank and "ULEZ compliant" was tongue in cheek. Also I don't venture into A ULEZ zone very often and if I do it's most likely to be work related in my van that is compliant for the car for the rare, Currently no plan for it entry into a ULEZ I'd rather pay the fee than restrict my cars exhaust system.

i have to say it sorry, but those tri spoke wheels on the wining z32 are absolutely terrible. the rest of it is nice thou. had my jdm 1990 2+0 for 21 yrs and they never go out of fashion they just get better and better to look at.

Will try that. Thought it may be a bit too "agressive". I briefly tried my belt file sander and it was too aggressive and "shaped" the metal.
You shouldve removed the paint using heavy duty paint stripper

Mr Muscle oven cleaner would had got that off on the inside. But I would wear gloves and use a good strong brush to help brake it down and bring them up like new.... also great on alloy wheels ( Not polished wheels) to remove any build up of harsh brake dust. 😎👌

Cam Belt can be done with engine in.
@@SIMONHOLFORD normal garages want to remove the engine in the coupe which is barbarrick when the 2 specialists in the country simply push the engine over to do the work. not looking forward to the bill i get in july when it goes 3 hours away to get the belt etc done. as im getting cambelt water pump crank angle cam phase sensor front main/oil pump seal steering belt and tensioner pulleys done along with brand new stage 3 hybrid turbo technicks turbo and replacement oem manifold.
@@5cylinder91 Timing belt, water pump, cam sensor, crank pully you can do all that with the engine in by taking out the fan and radiator and boost pipes. Turbos is debatable. Apparently they can be removed from underneath. But requires some clever twisting about to get past the strut towers. So upgraded turbos may well need engine out to get them in.
@@SIMONHOLFORD i changed the turbo 3 times on my old 5 speed 20vt no probs, finnaky would be a big understatement trying to get hands in and twist and turn the turbo certain ways to get it out and in again tho. cambelt etc not a driveway job as i havnt access to engine hoist etc no torque wrench no cam locking tools. nor do i have a second set of hands to help out and im partially disabled having a broken leg and major ops still to come after 6 years of waiting already so lifting and moving stuff is generally a nightmare
@@SIMONHOLFORD luckily if you stay hybrid turbo and dont go for one which requires a 5 bolt downpipe flange adaptor getting more power in the same footprint is not difficult. sadly the turbo manifolds are far and few between. they always crack and the used ones for sale are typically cracked or have been rewelded upteem amount of times.

No, you do have to pay the ULEZ charge. What you could do is to request a certificate of compliance from the importer. Send it to TFL, chances are your NOx emissions are far below the ULEZ treshold anyway.

i’m worried about my sill drains for the T-tops. would it be a bad idea to mastic them shut at the roof entrance? the car is always covered and never driven in the rain. tbh it’s been off the road since 2016 anyway
