    EVERYONE needs to make their own decision about what they want to take or not take just like what they want to do or don't want to do...PERIOD. Medically assisted weight loss isn't any different than medically assisted cholestrol levels or medically assisted pain relief or any other medically assisted condition. Saying medically treating weight management is cheating implies overweight people should be punished or "pay a price". It is blaming and shameing and treating weight as a moral failing - much like they used think of addiction. Struggling with weight/body issues is NOT a character flaw. It's incredibly complex and there is no one answer. And if the USA was interested in addressing what they call the "obesity epidemic" they would make NEEDED changes to the health care machine and the food industry. If the USA was interested in helping people be healthy, health insurance would cover full gym memberships, coaches and trainers, nutritionists, and talk therapy. The medical industry isn't interested in helping people be healthy, they are interested in making money. THANK YOU for the rant - we need more rants on this topic.

    id be tempted to take the g1 for the sole purpose of irritating ppl lol. out of all my hobbies, cyclists are by far the most elitist, & snobbish. its funny how our high school selves, are never too far away. weather on the wanting to be part of a group end, or the cool kids table end.

My G.1 is a killer ride. It just keeps going and going and it's fun, so why not just ride it? I got a little bit of a pep talk from my friend who has gone on one of the group rides, he's assured me that everyone is super cool and chill and no one will judge me. Maybe I can get them nerding out on it with me.

I was 355 pounds 5 foot 3 in january with a fasting blood glucose of 260 today i am 301 junes blood sugar was 130. But im doing carnivore diet which people tell me im killing myself by eating thst way but where as i used to eat every hour on the hour when i ate "normal"food now i eat at 4:30 am and not again till 11 o clock. Im just not hungry till then. And again at 3. Not yet hungry but its a good time schedule wise for me to eat my supper but everyone says im wrong for doing this so yeah i ignore them

      You are killing it. This is where I think people don't understand that bodies with Type 2 just don't respond the way they think they should. If carnivore is working why not use it, nothing say you have to do it forever. That is if YOU don't like it. I know my body functions better on higher protein and low carb. I tried the Atkins diet way back in the early 2000s and it wasn't something I could follow due to the fake sugars but it was the most success I had with any diet, likely because it was super low carb. You do you and keep killing it. Let the blood test numbers show the results!

      That actually sounds delicious. I haven't done a chicken cordon blu in a long time, gonna have to test this out. Have you tried chicken skin bacon? Clean chicken skin, brine it overnight with whatever seasoning you like. Pat dry and lay on an elevated tray with a drip pan, cook on low until crispy. Crumble on a salad. Most of the fat drips out as it's cooking and it's very crispy and pretty tasty. Not the healthiest thing but when crumbled up on a lot of greens delicious.

    Dude you don't have to answer to anyone and you don't owe anyone an explanation. Don't be embarrassed by the G1. Haters gonna hate regardless of what you ride. You can't please everyone nor should you try. Different strokes for different folks as they say. If you don't fit in to this group then there's another group. Breathe and don't worry if you're going to fit in. Walk away (or ride away) if it's not a good fit. You will find your people. Onward!

I could have probably done 62 miles if I didn't have to deal with a flat rear tire issue. LOL I tried using a TPU inner tube without reading the directions and that ended up going flat too I was close enough to ride home lesson learned. I did have a backup plan to use the train if necessary. I went with a Selle Italia Gel saddle and I wear my running leggings-shorts on the bike I didn’t like the padding of bicycle shorts. Selle SMP for the win! Of course everyone is different and saddle preference is as varied as tire selection. You know I've been struggling to find the right saddle ALL SUMMER! I came across the Selle SMP line and found two saddles I really like. Why two? I have two bikes and one saddle style isn't a 'fits-all' situations. I found I needed a saddle for my road bike and another for my touring bike. For me the issue was pressure on girl parts when riding a more upright bike with a flat-handlebar vs drop bar bike. You mention the webbing on your saddle helps with support. I haven't found the lack of webbing on the SMPs to be a problem. There is a really large channel on the SMPs that finally gave me relief. Proof everyone is indeed different!

    I got a Brooks C17 after trying about 3 saddles over the past year. Best saddle I've ever tried with only very light padded shorts. As far as back brake, I would really think the wheel is moving slightly if you use QR skewers. Try a set of Halo bolt on and your brakes will never run again. I had similar issue and kept moving/adjusting calipers. Updated to the Halos and rear brake stopped rubbing. I ride on rough roads and trails, wheel does not move.

    • @LessISMoreHealthy
      @LessISMoreHealthy 14 дней назад

      The bike does have QR skewers. I thought the wheel might be moving so cranked down the skewers. I've have the same problem with the original and the new wheelset. At this point I do not think the wheel is moving, it's still possible, but with how much the QR is tightened, I'd see scratches in the paint around where they clamp. Most recently I cranked down the bolts on the brake and it has stayed put for the last 100 miles.

    maybe locktite for the caliber?....yea its funny how ppl love to preach about how biking is so much better for the environment then turn around & use carbon fiber for everything..I went through 5 or 6 saddles recently. wife bought me a brooks cambium c17? it was immediately better than the cheaper wtb saddles. so I thought if the c17 is this comfortable then what is the b17 like? so I ended up buying that as well. figured I can alternate them as the b17 breaks in. or bad weather. so far, its been great. I only go 15 miles a day but, I don't wear the padded shorts everyday now, like I had to with smaller sportier saddles.

    • @LessISMoreHealthy
      @LessISMoreHealthy 14 дней назад

      Locktite might be a good solution. For certain applications CF is okay, i'd say that if you get a good CF saddle it's going to feel great. The bucklos 3d printed has CF rails and base and it has a little bit of flex in it that really works well. But I do worry about the longevity. I'm looking forward to checking out the brooks saddles. The 3d printed is really great but I want amazing and no chamois.

    • @LessISMoreHealthy
      @LessISMoreHealthy 16 дней назад

      Bars are a problem, I have tried a lot of them. I need to get back to posting my product reviews because some are nasty. The biggest issue I find with protein bars is that they have way more carbs than I need. With bars I look for 1:1 protein to carb ratio. I then look for fiber, I like to see 3+grams because that helps slow the absorption of the carbs and stops that carb wall feeling. The other thing that I dislike about bars is that they are all mostly whey protein. Which makes me gurgle in the gut. Then no one wants to be around me. Think delights seem to do okay for me gut wise and taste wise. The peanut butter flavors seem to taste the best. Shakes are easier for me too. The perimenopausal stuff is blowing my mind. My stomach is acting up and my BG is harder to manage. No fun!

    I can understand. Wish I was closer. I would join your coffee rides, or any rides for that matter. I registered for a ride on the 12th. There's no pressure on this ride either which I appreciate. I expect a large turnout, but there are multiple routes to choose from, so the racers (aka show offs) can get out ahead and bugger off quite frankly. I don't see any groups in my area that support entry level riders. I may approach one of my LBS and ask them if they'd be interested in supporting a group like this. I can't be the only one looking for a friendly entry level group ride. And if they don't support it, they may just help me spread the word.

      I've wanted to do coffee outside rides with other people for awhile. I know there are groups for it in other cities and areas. It just sounds fun. As for the group rides, I appreciate that they have a no drop rule, so everyone stays together. As for the LBS supporting it or hosting it, I don't know why they wouldn't want to support or host a ride. It's good business for them- bring people to the shop and keeps them coming back on a regular basis and helps the people know the folks in the shop. Win win business wise. Fingers crossed for you that they host and support and help spread the word!

    good for you. you're exactly what the biking "community" needs more of. I routinely run into spandex sissies with $200 styrofoam helmets, giving me looks like i shouldn't be on the path with their $4500 over engineered, overpriced bikes. there's a lot of elitism in cycling. Ridiculous brand loyalty, & an Apples point of view, of form over function. The irony is, these people supposedly are really into fitness and yet they're riding state of the art, featherweight, highly efficient, and tuned bikes. Complete with carbon parts that's terrible for the environment, made in communist countries that hate our guts. to me it would seem to be more logical if you're really wanting to get in shape then you would ride an inefficient heavy bike with loose clothing that catches wind and drags you down, forcing you to work harder....I'm on a 2017 specialized roll which was a significant purchase for me, converted to a budget 1x8 system. im almost 50, bad back & knees from 20 yrs of deliveries, & im passing 20 somethings on Ebikes on hills. Bike shops and people too lazy to do their own maintenance, Don't like people like you. You're supposed to go into their shop with a blank check and just tell them to take care of it. Half of the fun of bike ownership is learning how to work on it and being self-sufficient. Keep up the good work.

    All the feels on everything you cover here! I have a friend whose diabetes was transformed by some book that guided her life via glycemic index-it was revolutionary and helped all of us who have family history of diabetes! I’ll add that changes that come with aging and gaining and losing weight thru adulthood? It. Is. Frustrating. I will say that as I age, adding a strengthening component to my health program has been key. In fact, I know a lady who says that one easy gift you can give ANY woman you know -especially a woman you love - is to recommend the engage in strengthening! Anywho-beautiful share as always, Les!

      I check glycemic index but find that it doesn't always work for me. But generally higher protein to carb ratio works well. But I know for a lot of type 2 folx that glycemic index does wonders for them. The combo of careful diet and exercise has been what works for me. And yes to lifting. I like weights as they make me feel strong I tend to get a lot of natural weights through riding my bike on trails which means having to lift and carry or push my bike but this winter weights will be part of my routine. Feeling strong is important. Age related weight gain from perimenopausal hormone change is rough. I was able to get a referral from my PCP to talk to someone about HRT so it should help, but that won't happen until February

I feel plagued by loose flesh recently. I guess the surprise will never go away over how I look and why unrealistic expectations accompany that! Are you thinking about adding fenders? I'm not a fan, but I'll use mine for commuting. I'm trying to find the same rack you have, but I haven't had any success. Any other recommendations? I found the forward sitting position a little uncomfortable, but a 45-degree stem solved the problem. Your bag looks awesome!

      If you can't find the Ibera PakRak amzn.to/4d3vCNz Topeak makes a nice budget ish version called the Explorer. I have one on my beater bike that I used in grad school as my commuter (vintage gary Fisher Zebrano, great bike) The Explorer is pretty sturdy and I've slapped homemade kitty litter panniers on it and done the grocery shopping. SKS makes a solid set of finders that would fit this bike. I have considered fenders, if I were going to put another 1000 miles on it, use it as a more regular commuter, or use it for a tour I would definitely put fenders on it. I've used SKS fenders before and they are spendy but extremely sturdy. The pair I had on my Gary Fisher commuter are still going strong 11 years later! amzn.to/3Bj7OIy

    yes. a bike doesnt have to be expensive or have a specific name or brand. the only things that really matter is that the frame fits you and that the geometry suits what you wanna do with it. thats something you cant easily change...everything else can be swapped out with parts you like more when the time comes. just spending 5k in one go doesnt make you a better rider or enjoy biking more...on the other hand swapping out parts yourself gives you an idea what each upgrade does... on the other hand its not a bad thing to really get into the subject beforehand and research what you might want/need as a starting point. for example i myself wouldnt buy a bike with qc axles for mountainbiking anymore. or a suspension fork with steel springs when i can adjust the springrate of a cheap airfork easily.

      Welcome! I would suggest that you check all the parts so that they are properly installed and lubricated. If you aren't familiar with how to do this Park Tool channel and RJ the Bike Guy are 2 solid channels for learning about how to work on a bike. No need to fully upgrade the bike you can ride it as is for a good while. Though the saddle hurt my behind a lot. So that would be a spot where i suggest an immediate upgrade.

    You need a saddle fit. Less is more, if you have a wide saddle it increases the amount of pressure points. Hips don’t matter as much as your butt bones. Try a thinner saddle

      Truth. It's very annoying that I need to have super heavy duty locks that are heavy to keep my bike safe. I do wish businesses would put bike racks. I feel like locking to a tree is better than a fence, it's a lot harder for an angle grinder to cut through a tree than a fence. If I had to lock my bike outside at work parts would disappear in 10 minutes and the bike would be gone in an hour. It's wild.

    Just curious, how far into the fall/winter season do you plan to commute to work? What I mean is do you wait for snow on the ground, temps below a certain number, or will you ride no matter the conditions. I'm a wuss, so when the temps fall below 40F I don't ride. A brisk steady north wind is also a 'hell no' for me.

    • @LessISMoreHealthy

      I stop regularly commuting when I have kids in the building. I won't get out until 6pm on those days and it would put be at a dangerous road crossing and the bridge at dusk and honestly it feels too sketchy even with lights. When I combined riding and the train I did it year-round except when it was snowing or raining out.then I had my partner drop me at the train station.but now I'll drive. As for exercise riding I'll ride on weekends on road until December ish. Depending on weather and temp. I have some pants and a wool sweater that keep me warm for around 40 degrees. But mostly when it hits the 40s I'll hike I steady of bike
