Steve! (martin): A Documentary In 2 Pieces - Episode 144
Just got out of it… I am unwell. I am not okay. I unapologetically cried my eyes out. This absolutely destroyed me. The woman next to me was balling too, so we had a bonding experience.
The power of movies!!!
Guys and Dolls should be on this list just for the quality of the songs. The movies not great.
I think A24 failed to promote this movie more because they simply didn't want to do it. as if they had never had the interest in doing it and did not believe that critics would like it. director Aaron Schimberg named at the Palm Spring International Film Festival as one of the Directors to Watch, and A24 did not publish anything about it. Sebastian Stan won the Silver Bear at Berlinale for Best Leading Performance and A24 didn't even share a photo of it. Aaron Schimberg won Best Screenplay at the Catalonian International Film Festival and there was not a single mention from A24. to be a film that seeks to give space and understanding to the topic of disfigurement, disability, etc. It seems that A24 does everything possible to hide it. The film practically had promotion by word of mouth, the actors appearing at various screenings with Q&A and the fans of all those involved making fanmade posters, videos, posting on Twitter, etc.
A24 continues to baffle us with their distribution priorities... that's for sure!
This movie is awful! I love hearing the thoughts of a first timer, I just watched the older MIs recently as well. Keep podcasting, Ethan!
THE most underrrated - welcome to the club.
Re: ending at Knebworth - the director Mat Whitecross said that he wanted to end it on a high note without getting into any of the recriminations or bitterness of the split. They split in 2009, so they carried on for another 13 years after Knebworth. And yes, there are plans for a reunion documentary. Anyway, I love them, so I'm giddily excited about the reunion. I'm in for July 11th at Heaton Park next year.
What a load of rubbish. I would suggest a day job perhaps because you certainly are missing the point. 😂😂😂
And the point would be...?
@@24MinutesOfA24 you just don’t get it and you certainly haven’t got it, musically speaking ✌️
His cous. In was thirteen years old when he married her
Director Park Chan Wook did awsome job
Great episode guys...a few things by an addicted cinephile and award junky (myself). It's been 23/23 for me, some of what my gut was saying (thank god I was not following the latest trends) and some because of my instict prediction and not favouritism Best Picture: Maestro was my number 10 (was not expecting any win....Bradley shoould stop trying so so hard). KOTFM was my 9, I have red the book during quarantine and in my opinion they butchered it with the adaptation ( no shock it was not nominated) in comparison for example to Poor Things that McNamara took it to another level respecting the main theme (one of my favourite books for the last 10 years) Best Sound: For me TZOI, as soon as got the best movie nomination, I was sure will get this cause sound is for me the actual leading performance. It does not just elevates it, it makes the movie. Makeup, Production, Costume: Well deserved for Poor Things. All three are crucial for the movie and made brilliantly from scratch in order to complete Bella's character and journey. Barbie's was undeniably fabulous work and definitely number 2 but for me was just recreation of the toys. Leading actress: Lilly was great, introvert subtle performance but the movie was not. It was not the screen time as her part was never the lead in book. To remind Hopkins in Silence of the Lamps. If you ask somebody how long he was screened, nobody will believe it was just 20 mins. His essence is there all the time. Emma was simply brilliant. She did something so difficult and genuine. Her performance will be remembered as a classic. I know she wanted Lilly to win but she was the performance of the millenium. Excuse my long post. Just my humble thoughts. Continue as you do guys
preferntial is only on best picture, rest are plurality.
Very interesting and awsomly in depth discussion. Love your guyses takes.
Thank you so much!
Such a deep film that has made a lasting impression more than anything I've seen in a while
Just stumbled on your channel from my RUclips recommendations and I'm loving the enthusiasm you show, your positivity is something talk about alot in my channel for personal encouragement and it's something I love seeing. Keep it up, just liked and subscribed.
I felt all 3 characters were in a tough position. I felt for all 3 of them. I didn’t want to be Hae Sung, I didn’t want to be in Nora’s shoes and I didn’t want to be in Arthur’s shoes. If any one of them, made “a move”, it could have had devastating consequences that weren’t necessarily going to be the right choice nor the road to happiness. It was like standing at the edge of a precipice. ** spoilers** I was ok for the entire film, and at the end, when they’re waiting for the Uber I thought “Is this it?”. I was already discounting the movie, when we get that last scene. That was the perfect way to end it, and suddenly I was ugly crying, feeling my insides coming through my eye balls. What a subtle moment, that managed to push the movie where it needed to go, for me to change my mind about it. Just those few seconds at the end when she cried into her husband’s arms, I came undone. Such a fantastic screenplay. This did for me what Women Talking did for me last year. A dialogue heavy film, that manages to gut punch you, because the dialogue is just so effective.

It’s insane how many folks aren’t understanding this show
Say it’s bad for once without pandering.
but it isn’t bad?
I think you guys might be underestimating bradley cooper, he will have the biggest overdue narrative, the most makeup, and probably the showiest role out of everyone in best actor and the academy eats that stuff up, they don't usually reward reserved performances.
Totally agree. He is hot on the awards trail already too!
Best picture poor things
I can totally see him winning and I would support his win, but the fact that he directed and wrote Maestro himself would feel like such a cheap shot to win since he basically purposely gave himself baity scenes that requires a rather highly ambitious dramatic performance. Whereas someone like Cillian Murphy who is actually acting under the vision from another artist which requires more effort as an actor.
You are going too much into Oppenheimer winning everything....I don't see it, it wasn't that amazing, pretty forgettable to be honest. Same goes to killers of the flower moon. I see many different movies winning things.
Watched it again last night. Stand by our takes. lol
You guys have been absolutely brainwashed. Elon Musk started his companies with his own money. His first couple websites he would use his own computer as the server during the day, and do the coding at night. first website became yellowbooks online. His second website became paypal. He took the money from PayPal to get involved at tesla and ultimately took it over and made it one of the top auto manufacturers within ten years. Yes used the money from tesla to start one of the largets solar panel manufacturers in the us, then he started the boring company then space X and created a better shuttle program than NASA. And he has the ai company. And if you look at the driving factor behind all his companies the core goal is to fight climate change and pollution. Tesla single handedly forced every other auto maker to get actively involved in greener transportation. Space X saves billions of dollars in tax payer money because their ships are reusable. Solar panels and improving mass transportation, also for the good of the planet
Yall are really some fucking dorks fr 😂 “What did he do?” Just som nerds
Elon is such an idiot. Not sure anyone besides his unwashed fans will be interested.
I understand why you're skeptical about an Elon Musk biopic. He's a controversial figure, and it's hard to imagine how his life could be turned into a compelling movie. However, I think there are a few reasons why this could actually be a good idea. First, Elon Musk is a fascinating person. He's a person who has revolutionized multiple industries, and he's also a bit of a wild card. His life is full of ups and downs, and it would be interesting to see how a filmmaker could capture his story. Elon Musk's life is a captivating tale of ambition, innovation, and resilience. His journey from a young child in South Africa to a global tech mogul is filled with both extraordinary triumphs and setbacks. His upbringing in South Africa, marked by an abusive father and experiences with bullying, shaped his character and instilled in him a determination to overcome adversity. Additionally, his shift in political views, from supporting Barack Obama to becoming a Republican, reflects his evolving thinking and the factors influencing his decisions. Furthermore, Musk's founding of SpaceX is another significant chapter in his life. SpaceX now controls 80% of the world's commercial satellite launches. This has not only been a major game-changer in the space industry but also a critical component of national security. Without SpaceX's capabilities, the U.S. government might have been dependent on Russian rockets for its national security needs. Exploring this aspect of Musk's life in a biopic could shed light on the broader implications of his work beyond just business success. In conclusion, while the idea of an Elon Musk biopic may raise doubts, there's undeniably a wealth of compelling material in his life that could make for a thought-provoking cinematic narrative.
cool but he is a terrible person so there's that lol
Elordi's introduction to Elvis Presley was from Lilo & Stitch. But to prepare his accent for the movie, he listened to all the interviews and recordings of Elvis that's in existence.
'Tepid take incoming'
ooh are we in agreement on The Blackcoat’s Daughter then?
Maybe if YOU didn’t have an attention span of a gnat. Can’t buy good taste or an original thought.
What movie?
The movie that’s a long 93 is ‘The Blackcoat’s Daughter’. An A24 horror movie we just covered on the podcast!
"Slander"? Wtf are you talking about?! Slander is verbally lying and this guy is not lying, it is a shitty ass movie.
if i were arthur i would not be happy about any of this
fair enough - it’s an interesting journey into self-discovery from his perspective as well.
Rhode Island and Connecticut are pretty much one state it’s the same shit
good to know lol
Thanks for having me on 🫡
our podcast is now officially cool
Best film of the year for me, for sure. It’s perfect.
What a dorky stance by these two boys
What is the name of this “owner” movie they’re talking about?
It is called 'Medusa Deluxe'. It is a "oner" - meaning shot to appear like it is done in one single take.
@@24MinutesOfA24 interesting… I recall seeing a movie like that that was released back in the 90s. The movie was titled 20 bucks.
The illusionist.
I loved his performance in The score
Motherless Brooklyn
I really appreciate your conversation after having seen the film. This movie is so rich and has so many layers to explore.
thank you for letting us know! Glad you enjoyed the episode and the film!
Are you guys going to review The Florida project
we haven’t yet but would be more than happy to add it to our schedule if that’s something you’re interested in!
Yes that’s my favorite movie of all time, I would be thankful
sorry this movie was a miss for you, I loved it. 2nd best ari aster movie and 2nd best film of year since Past Lives is now out.
we are stoked you liked it! what are your Ari Aster rankings then?
@24MinutesOfA24 Midsommar best film in years, Beau is great, and Hereditary is solid but I say third.
I live in Appalachian Ohio town so we had to travel 2 hours to Gateway Film Center in Columbus to see this weekend. Loved this film. I loved Beau is Affraid too but now it's my second favorite of the year. This one I was able to take my girlfriend, she does not like subtitles but enjoyed film more than she expected. She want to wait and hear the song as the end because she thought a Celion D. song was at the end, she was disappointed to realize she was confused because director writer was Celine Song.😮
dollar store sam Hyde?
💀 💀 💀
PUNISHMENT! PUNISHMENT!!
NEVER BUT ALSO WE HAVE ONE IN EPISODE 5 COMING UP 👀
What ever the upcoming two Mission Impossible dead reckoning films Will bring us , I just hope one thing : REBECCA FERGUSON'S ILSA FAUST CHARACTER NOT BE KILLED OFF , the key scene in the desert and the Venice bridge scene make us worry
First
Wtf are they even talking about? Why does this come across my feed. It's beaur-ing!
ouch. but respect for perpetuating the use of a great pun.
Beau is Afraid is way better hahah
Reminds me of the white bear black mirror episode now that I hear the Truman reference!
Guess we gotta watch that now… 👀
I’m really starting to believe the Truman show concept. “Don’t make me do this” “don’t incriminate yourself” “guilty” the video tape.. it’s so Truman show. It makes me love it even more. Forgot to add. This is the best analysis of the movie I have seen on RUclips so far. Good work, even though you didn’t love it. (I did for the record)
Right? That second act just leads you to believe it’s all a set up… wow thank you for the kind words! Ethan is coming around to it more but Ben is still steadfast in his opinion 😂
That show was weird.
