Personally, on my own device I have found that the water line markings on the cup are not very accurate. Tried making soft boiled and they still came out hard boiled

700 watts peak power which is 75 watts rms so they are not high powered. 2000 watts peak is 1500 rms , ie 1000 watts peak power is 500 watts rms thoae you have your amp is to powerfull

try setting your amp right your clipping those speakers they can only take is the recommended pwer rateing

Despite these not being good speakers, I just wanted to point out that the distortion was likely not coming from the speakers but the amplifier, as it sounds more like the amp is clipping rather than the speakers distorting. When a low frequency driver is pushed to its limits it will start to make mechanical noise and will not distort in that manner.
