well, i thought i would make a nice little movie for my subscribers while at the same time learning how to use after effects. so here you go. i'll admit to being somewhat unpleased with the results for the following reasons: 1. it is 2 months late. 2. turns out , i don't have motion tracking capabilities. 3. the live action footage is rubbish. 4. the colors got screwed up in the QT encode. one ...

popeye pencil test #2
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.17 лет назад
here's the rest of it. i know i screwed the whole thing up by "moving" the camera in while popeye is in mid-jump - he was nowhere near bluto when i needed him to be, so i forced a zoom, and it looks awful. i'm not happy about popeye's feet slipping around either, and i didn't bother with some of the frames where bluto is airborne, hence the jump in his movement. the rest of it i like, though. i...

daffy duck pencil test

description: this is a scene i copied from one of my favorite daffy duck shorts, a little frank tashlin number called "plane daffy". i believe the original sequence was animated by art davis. it's kind of sloppy on account of i didn't draw registers on the paper (i'd forgotten how high up daffy started) and i could only see one or two pages back in the book i drew this in. his feet move around ...

limited animation - "what does green really mean?"
I have been trying to find this cartoon for years. Used to watch it as a child cause my grandma had dozens of old cartoon VHS and this was on one of them. So glad I can watch it again
i used to love these cartoons when i was little! i think this particular one single handedly started my obsession with art
0:57 back and forth between two bg colors 1:47 white lines of boats, make tree 2:35 shifting camera angles 3:05 longing balcony scene 4:30 montage cuts 7:02 eye thing cool
It looks like Popeye's diving right into Bluto's mouth.
Animation by Faith and John Hubley, 1959.
I don't think I've seen this before, which is surprising, since I was born in 1956, and UPA cartoons were all over the place in 1960s TV, especially in large markets like Greater Chicagoland, where there were multiple independent channels. I love the story. It's told simply and effectively. UPA's stark graphics and limited animation were an ideal medium for telling Dufy's story. It's abundantly clear that UPA's artists, like the fashion industry of the mid-50s, was still strongly influenced by Dufy's work. I'm nuts about this cartoon! I want to see it in a better transfer, if possible. Time to hit up the library!

How did I get here
Rip to everyone still looking for this
3:12 is so catchy
5 sisters!,!!
Thank you to my father for taping this in the early 80s. Wonder how valuable our copy of this is!
I remember watching this in a documentary. So glad to finally find it again after all these years. I'm 19 BTW, who said a teen can't be mature too? X'D
Rare? I assume it's rare because UPA only produced one "The Invisible Mustache of Raoul Dufy" cartoon. Then again, pretty much all cartoons are rare, then.
It is rare because you can't find it anywhere else… Can you?
It's rare because this is the only place to find it and it cannot be found in restored quality, it's a made for tv cartoon which along with the rest of the Gerald Mcboing boing show has never been on DVD
I have a DVD called Cartoon Craze and this is on it
The Gerald McBoing Boing Show had a multitude of talented artists and directors. Of course, UPA was known for scorning humor. Nevertheless, supervising director Bobe Cannon hired former UPA writer Bill Scott as an associate producer to help add humor to the show. Scott also served as dialogue director for the series. When Scott later teamed up with Jay Ward, not only did he bring along some of the designers and directors to Ward's studio, but also some of the actors who put in time for this series. For instance, the "Favorite Painters" series was narrated by Hans Conried, who would later play, among other Ward roles, Snidley Whiplash on the "Dudley Do-Right" segments by Ward.
Nice test. You might want to consider taking out some of your Inbetweens. The spacing is too even, producing a "floating" action instead of the "force" of the punch. The punch would cause an acceleration in the action.
how lovely!!
I watched this in Spanish! I didn't found it yet in spanish, But i understand english.
NICE!!!!!! im working on an animation too, and JESUS this gave me ideas!!
tim burton kinda stole this idea on his short "vincent"
Very cool and graceful, I didn't even know this UPA cartoon so far; so, thanks a million for posting!
I've been looking for this for a while now. It suddenly hit me to stop searching up the song and look up the cartoon which I remembered was about a boy with an invisible mustache. So glad to have been able to find this.
Grew up seeing this on TV. Where is this kind of thing for children today?
My last name is Meade, Joshua J. Meade.
Yes, as 'atzawacki' has stated, this WAS a segment of the 1956-'57 "BOING BOING SHOW" on CBS' Sunday afternoon schedule (originally telecast in black and white).
Love love love this cartoon! My mom bought my kids a cartoon DVD out of the dollar bin and this was on it! I haven't been able to get it out of my head for years now - at least 4 years! I love it!
Same and I’m just now finding it again
Same haha
I've been looking for this for ages! I remember watching this on TV when I was a kid in the 60's. I always loved the animation and that little song. Thank you for posting!
Huh, funny that a kid from the 60's and a teen from the 2000's (1999) found the same entertainment from this! Loved this stuff when I was younger. ^^
@steepertree I wish the series is on DVD
Oh I'm sure it will be one day
Wonderful animation! Informative, poignant, marvelous art style... and the magnificent voice of Hans Conried narrates. Thanks for posting!
This was part of the Gerald McBoing Boing Show. Marvelous!
is that Johnathan Winters
@jimmyjam9014 my father and I are both descendants.
Wherever did you find this?? Fabulous!
@evergreenanimations dat sucks!
Walk Kelly was a genius. His cartoons and books are beyond 99% of past and present cartoonist. If you take the time to immerse yourself into his collection, you will enrich your life.
Wow, really impressive. The animation is really fluent, and the little faults you mentioned aren't really noticable. I actually liked the small zoom, it put some more action in it. Was this used for anything in particular?
I have this on VHS somewhere....it's awful cute!! The little frogs are adorable!!
I would love to see the rest of this!
oh lol, cool. kinda figured you were teasing. :)
lol ;) watch?v=jt7AF2RCMhg watch?v=nQCkSXpSiIM
Yeah you rock, I love UPA. I love that song he sings, it's dying for a Pogo-esque remix. You all do know Pogo don't you? :)
"DON'T TOUCH IT!" hee hee! That was cute. I wonder how the Skunk looked in this short.
I concurr, this is a most hard to find film
I'd like to see it on Blu-ray. The textures on the clay puppets would show up really well (provided they use a film source and don't DNR it to death).
im the descendant General George G. Meade
His real name is Bluto. He was called Brutus in the King Features Syndicate Popeye cartoons from 1960-1961 due to a controversy over who had the rights to the name. Except for the KFS cartoons his name has always been Bluto.
That's pretty good. I start animation school this fall and can't wait. I started animating my freshman year of highschool. Popeye was also my inspiration for experimenting with animation. I also make Lego films as well. You should check them out.
I ordered my copy off of ebay. Type in I GO POGO in the search box, under category DVDs - be patient, you might have to keep checking back a few weeks until a copy becomes available! Same goes for the Pogo cartoon: The Pogo Special Birthday Special, you can somtimes find VHS copies on ebay
Sho-Ryu-Ken!
cool stuff. Pluto looks like he pops from one position to the next too quickly when he's in the air.
