When it comes to the whole psychological perspective of The Thing. If you're physically eaten by it when you're infected, then you're dead. The original you is gone and when it assumes your identity, it does so making itself look like an identical copy of you. Now having knowledge of what you were in life, it acts accordingly. Where it gets interesting to me, is if you got a cut on your arm and a drop or two of The Thing's blood enters that cut; anything goes. You're you until it consumes all of your cells from the inside. Maybe when that happens your brain just shuts off, you die as if you're passing out and then that Thing is now the sentient being in control of that body.
This is exactly what I love about the Thing! Also the scaries part about it. You never get a solid answer, so you can never trully know, are you an unknowing mask that can be shutdown at any moment or do you simply end when you are consumed.

Thanks brother! I went through so many itterations on this thing it drove me half mad. Worst oart was deciding to go for Exosuit(Mini Mech) or Power Armor. In the end I chose the former!
