Travelling 2,200 miles in 18 days through the Amazon Basin, we take the full complement: minibuses; coaches; slow boats; fast boats; water taxis and rickshaws. It gives us plenty of time to reflect and helps us grasp the truly epic scale of the World's largest rainforest.

Processing bitter cassava to create farine is the lynchpin of Makushi culture. We help out a little and also take a few river trips with friends in Guyana, the 'Land of Many Waters', finding plenty of wildlife along the way.

From rough and ready Georgetown, along the bone crunching road south into the interior, we arrive in Surama, North Rupununi. We find Ben's old Makushi Amerindian pals from his PhD days and immediately get stuck into some forest farming.

After 10 month of living in Brighton, England, during the Coronavirus Pandemic, a lot has changed. Everyone has been having to seek different horizons, and I've been no different.
Rewiding Diaries Episode 17: Isolation
Просмотров 5394 года назад
After a beautiful sighting of storks migrating and a swim in Barcelona, the Pandemic started and I headed for home to be with my family. As everyone is dealing with isolation at the moment, i thought I'd share how i've been dealing with the isolation of living alone on the road for the last year. I hope it helps. With love xx
Rewiding Diaries 16: Forestry
Просмотров 2334 года назад
I've been enjoying driving along the north coast of Spain, largely because of the forests I drive through everywhere, but on closer inspection they're almost all plantations of eucalyptus or pine. Alongside a bracing dip in a mountain stream and finding a hi-tech solar power station, I interview my pal Joseba about forestry (aka tree farming). Interesting stuff.
Rewiding Diaries 15: a slow journey
Просмотров 4024 года назад
Taking a break from the land search, I help my friend Mariel (from diary 11!) on a leg of her 'slow journey' from England to the Caribbean. We encounter hoopoos, cowboy baths, salty Mediterranean waters, views of Africa and the battleground of Trafalgar, all while moving slowly, like usual. Wonderful.
Rewilding Diaries Episode 14: Animal Rescues
Просмотров 2955 лет назад
Its Christmas time and there seems to be a few little creatures in need of rescuing, from dogs to frogs to hedgehogs to starfish, it's all in the Christmas spirit. Jemima (my van) also had a hiccup, but all is well now. Merry Christmas.
Rewiding Diaries Episode 13: Wild Food
Просмотров 2075 лет назад
There's always plenty of wildlife to appreciate, from barnacles to wild boar, and some of it you can eat too. Wild foods are a wonderful way of circumventing the food industry, but forage responsibly though through infrequent and varied harvesting. The Chicken of the Woods is the special guest star in this one. They exist all over Europe so go see if you can find one local to you.
Rewiding Diaries Episode 12 - wooden surfboards and THE PLAN
Просмотров 3285 лет назад
After learning to shape a wooden surfboard in Cornwall with James Otter, life continues, taking me back to Northern Spain to attempt to start a life there. Despite leaving my home shores for good, I haven't had a chance to feel lonely or even a little bit sad as my life has been filled with new friends, smiles, incredible landscapes and beautiful waves. Onwards and upwards.

Heading south from the outer reaches of Scotland, an adventure in Poole Harbour beckons with my pal Mariel the wild mermaid, as well as a final reflection on what it's like to spend lots of time exploring the world alone.
Rewilding diaries Episode 10 love birds
Просмотров 3865 лет назад
Exploring the Outer Hebridean islands of Lewis, Harris and North Uist, the wild swimming only gets better, the birds get more abundant and the outings get slightly stranger... My Collins Bird Guide has been an invaluable ally as has my oracle of a friend Elizabeth (she's the one at the end, being an oracle).

Hi Ben, just become a subscriber, as this post is 2 years old not sure you will see this? Anyway I did a similar thing in New Zealand when back packing, bought a van and converted to a camper, I bit smaller than this. My question is how you keep your stuff together when cornering? You seem to have stuff just stuffed into place? Love your motor sailer by the way, looking forward to seeing you on the next adventure. My venturing forth is now reduced to RUclips channels.
