...... All is not as it seemed yesterday :-) I migrated the AD from Samba 4.10.16 to Widows server 2008 R2. After migration, AD is in WS 2003 ”domain functional level “ and working without any visible problem. HOWEVER, after starting the PC - the DNS servis is reporting Event ID 4013 - The DNS server is waiting for AD DS …… Event ID 4014 - The DNS server was unable to initialize Active Directory security interfaces. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly and restart the DNS server. The event data contains the error. When I try rise the Domain functional level to 2008 or 2008 R2, AD becomes unavailable. Please, do you have any Idea how to solve this?@@silasinfotech

@@silasinfotech Well, I think right now I've figured out my problem. There is a "ghost" server in the DNS records of my samba. I have deleted the server with samba-tool domain demote --remove-other-dead-server=[server hostname]. However, the DNS records for it are still there and now I cannot even run dcpromo on a new Windows virtual machine. It will go through all the steps but will not complete the replication process. I am currently trying to delete these DNS records from my samba.

@@silasinfotech Yes, I can, but right now the problem is I cannot replicate the domain, only thing I could do is to create a new DC without replication. I will try to delete all records of this server through a RSAT, which I think will be easier.

Thank you for comment. 1. Migration from 2008 R2 to 2022 directly is not possible. You have to migrate to windows server 2012 R2 first. Then you can migrate to windows server 2022.

@@silasinfotech Thank you for your reply, and what about FRS sysvol? When migrate from 2008 to 2019 sysvol must be set on DFSR. Why didn´t you setup DFSR before promote 2019 and during promoting no error about sysvol. 🤔

Maybe one think on my mind: because samba doesn´t support FRS and DFSR protocol and during migrate from samba to windows AD it must copy sysvol manually. So when it create sysvol manualy at first time on windows AD so it must be created primary DFSR sysvol otherwise itś not possible promote Windows server 2016 and later.

@@lukaskrivda while migrating from 2008 to 2019 server DFSR is not supported. So you to upgrade or migrate 2012 or 2016. While migrating From 2012 or 2016 to 2019 DFSR automatically replicate.

I need repair sysvol replication to new WS2019 and then demote Server2008. Can I copy folders manually to WS2019 like from samba to 2008 through robocopy? Thank you for your help

Thank you for comment. there are many reason to get (WERR_BADFILE) error. Network Connectivity, DNS and TIME Synchronization, User Account Permission, Antivirus & Firewall, if possible can i check smb.conf file?

@@silasinfotech Hey, youtube deleted my comment earlier. I have tried to redo everything from the beginning, and everything went smoothly (even DNS) until I changed my server's IP address. As soon as I've changed to the same address of the older AD, my DNS resolves the IP but doesn't save it. Do you know how to fix this? How did you configure your adapter?

@@silasinfotech Also, whenever I try to resolve the IP in the DNS, it resolves an IPv6 but it gives an "unknown error", and when I click Ok and Apply, it loses both addresses again.

@@silasinfotech IPV6 is already disabled in my network interface, but the problem persists. I am thinking that the DNS has some conflict with the old IP, don't know how else to explain this issue.
