Very good👏👏، Do you have other video about polyrythm?
W
😊
Vesuvius was one of the hardest pieces I ever learned how to conduct. I loved that Frank Ticheli used 9/8 for the primary melody. What a fun piece! :)
Such a great piece. Have you seen Frank Ticheli conduct it? He conducts it at such a fast tempo. I have seen a video of him conducting it on RUclips. I love contacting pieces in crazy meters. I once composed and conducted a piece in 10/8.
@@ThreeMinuteMusicTheory I actually learned how to conduct it by watching Frank conducting it! I've composed a piece using primarily 11/8, and other odd meters. It's very fun to learn!! I'll have to see you conduct a piece sometime!! :)
Thank you
You are welcome!
I'm confused at 2:30
What are you confused about?
The intro is unnecessarily epic. 😅
But why even use a two tied crotchets when you can just use a minim?
What if you are in 4/4 and on the 4th beat you want that note to last 2 beats? That is what you use a tie for. To tie the 4th beat to the note in the next bar on beat one.
damn chopin was in love with them polyrythms
i don’t blame him
extremely helpful video!
Thank you so much!
I wrote a short piece once using 10/8 as a duple meter. 2 groups of 5 eighth notes.
How cool. Would love to hear it.
What's the song?
So informative, thanksss😍🙏🏼
You are welcome! 😎
Nice video. IMO, those 9:4 and 10:4 tuplets should be avoided and instead written as 9:8 and 10:8 tuplets of 32nd notes.
Thank you. And thank you for your comment. I was on the fence about which way I wanted to write them because I have seen them both ways. In Ligeti's Chamber Concerto, he uses 32nd notes; in his Requiem, he uses 16th notes. I kept them 16ths in this video for the constancy of dividing the beat. I agree that it looks nicer to use 32nds.
Color bass/melodic riddim be like:
can you take a look into Zappa's use of tuplets. I love his music, but some of it seems unplayable if you look at his notation. He would have tuplets of 17 or 25.
I really like music theory videos with lots of actual music examples, somehow they are quite rare, great channel! btw that last nested tuplets one was indeed borderline absurd
A useful supplement to my current musical studies.
Thanks for this video, it helped me understand this concept much quicker than I'd anticipated from purely memorising it. Good job!
You are very welcome!
Im trying to learn how to count time signatures and I’ve had an idea for a melody for a long time, but struggled with finding the time signature for it. I found out now that it is 10/8 and I understand what the 10 means, but not what the 8 means.
The 8 means the 8th note gets the beat. So in 2/4, the quarter note get the beat.
❤
❤
Cool. Ive never seen that used before
Thanks.
*It is called natural when an accidental instance of that note has already been indicated on the key signature or on the staff, and that accidental needs to be canceled, so the sharp or flat is not needed for the current note.*
Which note are you referring to?
Cool! I would love to hear what those notes sound like right after that’d be very satisfying
Wow thats a lot of tisio's ans sssasssass's
In Italian the suffix “issimo” means a lot more or very and the suffix “ino” means little.
For those wondering, the sharp sign ♯ is different from the hashtag #
Loved Vesuvius in high school
It is such an awesome piece!
Du NAnana du nu nu NA nu
Simple enough 👍
Ahhh. Just like chocolate cream pies
Solid
There’s gotta be a reason why double sharps and flats exist rather than just saying the forward or backward letter? My guess is more room on the page or easier to read? Maybe I’m completely off lol
It is used to spell chords correctly. For example, a B major chord is B D# F#. To make it augmented you raise the 5th of the chord. So the F# becomes an Fx (double sharp). So an B augmented chord is B D# Fx.
The enharmonic equivalent always threw me for a loop
Ohhh I see the the pattern!!!
I’ll be back to this to make flash cards 🤘
3 minutes sounds easy enough
Guess I’ll watch them all tonight. Starting NOW
We always said 1 ah Lee 2 ah Lee and that flows very well.
Out of every way ive ever heard to count triplets i think (number)-la-lee has to be the hardest to dictate with at higher speeds, i just find myself stumbling with it. I usually end up saying (number)-ple-et or just tri-ple-et, hell i think ive even done (number)-trip-let
La-lee seems a bit more awkward than just saying na-ne
You don't say (beat number)-trip-let?
@@bigboybagel7838 both is fine I guess but la-lee is just not great
La lee seems to be the favorite in a lot of music theory books in the US. Na nee is easier to say at a faster tempo. I wonder if the La lee is favored more because they are open vowels and na nee keeps the mouth more closed.
Love this!!!
I feel like take 5 would be a better example
I thought about it but I wanted just a one line melody and most people recognize the piano part not the sax part. Really love the tune though. 🎵
Yeah I have no idea what you're talking about bud. Maybe an auditory example?
Would have liked to but I would have been dinged with copyright. A video link is in the description. Here is a link to the tune here. Lalo Schifrin - Mission: Impossible ruclips.net/video/wwpXUn2dF5c/видео.html
Would be nice if you played it afterwards

Super video, really explains odd time signatures well
Thank you so much! 🎶🎵 🎶
That’s really cool! I never looked at it that way
Thank you so much! 🎶🎵 🎶
What other phrases do you use to remember the notes on the alto clef or tenor clef?
why is this so fucking trippy. i thought it was going to explain what that meant or something but it never did
Can only put so much in a short video. Here is the full video for an explanation of what those mean. 🎵 ruclips.net/video/PSUKRB_G6N0/видео.html
it’s for people who already know a little bit about it. i didn’t know this and learned
This is really cool! I love music theory
