I love that the only important highlight of the day worth mentioning is that Sam forgot to pack rope🤣
Ha ha, yeah the only reference to today in the book that I've seen is while they're waiting to leave on the 25th, Sam saying to himself that "just yesterday" he was thinking he should pack some rope.
@@Middle-earthDaily Something, I wonder though is why didn't Elrond order an Elf to bring rope or an Elf randomly bring one. Did Sam say it to himself? I thought he said out loud. I don't think it would've been hard to find rope and pack it last minute, it can't be that hard to find🤪

This is a great idea! I love to look in Appendix B in The Return of the King randomly to see if something happened around the same day I’m sitting there reading. December is a hard month because the only thing it states in the Appendix B is that the company leaves Rivendell at dusk on the 25th. But obviously lots happened between the time of the council and when they left that we’re told about so this definitely could have happened this day! Just really cool. Thanks for causing me to pick up the book to check! Anytime I’m opening up something Tolkien, it’s a good day.
Thanks!! You can often use the text to work out a lot more dates than are given in Appendix B as well. When they choose the Fellowship members Elrond says "in seven days the Company must depart", so that scene must take place on December 18th. And all the scouts have returned before that scene, so the last ones probably arrive around December 17th, give or take.
@ actually, according to the Appendix the council of Elrond took place on October 25th so they left exactly two months later. I’ll have to look back but I don’t remember Elrond saying anything about leaving in 7 days, but regardless they didn’t. They stayed in Rivendell for two months while Elrond sent out scouts. Or maybe I misunderstood you and you weren’t talking about Elrond saying that at the council but when he allowed Merry and Pippin to go. EDIT: yes I think I misunderstood what you said. I thought you were talking about the council of Elrond but you were talking about when they finalized the fellowship. So much fun! Haha
